Renting InfoCision Stadium out to the OHSAA
ZipsVoice replied to AkronAlumnus's topic in Akron Zips Football
They have already submitted their dates for the entire OHSAA playoffs, the only date not included was this Friday. I think you are correct on concessions, incorrect on ticket sales as those go directly to the OHSAA. No revenue sharing on streaming, as that is all sanctioned through OHSAA and Spectrum. And I think there would be more independent interest in a Mentor McKinley game than Perry-Massillon, no offense. Plus, I get the feeling that OHSAA has gotten push back in the past from member-schools, especially larger ones who have put in turf and big video boards, when they award a game to Info, Dix, YSU, etc rather than at a member High School. I agree with Clark. Hudson played St. Ed's there in a state semi-final game just a few years back at Infocision and there were maybe 12-13,000 real seats sold. And also agree with Clark that OHSAA may frown on Hoban at Info since they did play there earlier. And Dix is on the list for this year's events. -
Renting InfoCision Stadium out to the OHSAA
ZipsVoice replied to AkronAlumnus's topic in Akron Zips Football
Akron does offer. OHSAA sends out a request to ALL High Schools and Independent sites like Infocision, Dix, YSU etc. if they are interested in hosting games, and the schools/sites submits ayes or no answer and the dates they are willing to host. It is then up to the OHSAA to select sites. In football and soccer, sites are not determined until the match/game's opponents are known. Once that is known, OHSAA takes into account the logistics to try to make the event somewhat equidistant for both schools. Hence why sites are not announced until Sunday afternoon, getting clearance from the independent site and informing the schools before it's published to the public. The University did submit dates they would accept, and Friday was not one of them because Friday Akron hosts two soccer games as part of the MAC tournament and also will be hosting two women's basketball games (The Akron Classic) and a men's basketball game. I know, "but this is football". It takes staff to run ALL events on campus, even if it is not an NCAA event. The facilities staff is already thin, and hosting an OHSAA game didn't fit. Financially, it doesn't matter whether it's a D1 or a D7 school, the site get's the same monies. Perry vs. Massillon would not make sense from a travel standpoint anyway. Mentor-McKinley was the game that would have made sense if Friday was available. Last year Akron offered to host playoff games on every single independent site nights and was awarded zero. So it's just up to the OHSAA to determine sites, and Akron did not turn down "your" game, despite the rumors you may hear. -
Assessing Coach Arth (and his staff)

two quick notes....the ESPN "talent" - Bentley and the play-by-play actually were not at the game, but ensconced in another city and just got the satellite feed and did their schtick from there. Not that it changes Bentley's comments or observations, sometimes it's easier to do watching the monitor than in the booth. Don't know if it was weather relate or budget related. Second, the Beacon did NOT even send Thomas to the game, or he decided not to come, leaving it to an independent "stringer" to write an article. 5 freakin' city blocks, free food, and you get to stay warm in the pressbox George, WTF? -
Game 10: Zips -v- EMU - Nov.12, 6:00 p.m.
ZipsVoice replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football
Okay, I'll sacrifice myself here....but, there were a few positives, nothing great but definite progress. Up until the 4th period, no penalties, they've really cut down on them the last tow games Sign of player discipline improving? Kato played a solid game, IMO. He threw a couple crappers, but a couple real strikes. They only had one turnover, and that was a fantastic feet-down interception of a great pass. The line gave him pretty good protection, and when they didn't, he kept his cool mostly and evaded well. He just can't stop himself for some reason from a sideline altercation though. Boogie had lots of touches and nice catches. Nothing good to say about defense, other than the guys are trying. Anyway, tear away..... -

Kept thinking watching at the game, how big Shaq Vann is. And kept thinking what just 1 RB like him could do to help a team like ours. I'm not saying we'd immediately contend for a winning season, but his strength, speed, size makes up for a lot of missed OL blocks and his ability to pick up first downs. Damn, where do we get one? Plus some other recruits might see a player like him and think maybe this ain't so bad.... -
Gawd, I learn more and more from you each day! Who said the U of A degree wasn't valuable! ?

Darlington Nagbe coming “home"
ZipsVoice replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
After watching countless (painfully so) Crew matches on FSNO for free this season, we need DeAndre back more than anything....the Crew D is absolutely pathetic in the final 10 minutes and stoppage of almost every game! Maybe Nags could change their mentality, but I was amazed how many times Columbus snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, or gave up a late equalizer, countless times in stoppage time!!!! It really turned me off, and this I turned off paying attention to them by season end, despite the fact they have my beloved Caleb and equally beloved Trapp-ster on the squad (Gaffer and Skipper, to boot!) -
So your early scouting report sounds like we might have a better (tougher) game than I expected.....game is on the 15th, Friday, by the way ? ...SC Upstate is on the 18th. Busy day/night as well. Zips MSOC host the MAC Tournament with a 3 pm and 6 pm (Zips match) at FES, and the Women's basketball team hosts the Akron Classic, with the Michigan Wolverines taking on Kent State at 2 pm at the JAR, then the Zips WBB take on the IUPW Mastedons at 4:30 just prior to the Zips MBB game. Too bad this is n't all happening on a Saturday or Sunday for more fan attendance. May be nice to see both Zips BB teams play back-to-back....

Swimming and Diving get back in the pool this weekend as they get their first real test in a tri-meet with the Buckeyes of Ohio State and Kenyon Friday, and then a glimpse of one of their traditional MAC rivals on Saturday at Athens in a dual with Ohio. The long course (full pool, 50 meters) meet against Toledo was a little anti-climactic, with no real benchmark to judge traditional performances against, plus the competitive squad was small. But in that meet we saw glimpses of Sarah Watson's speed as well as Paulina Nogaj's strength. Freshmen Andrea Galisteo, Gail Workman and Weronika Goreka stood out as newcomers. The real improvement to me came from the divers, as Andrea Bugariou and Kate Applin dove well and took on more difficult dives in their rotations. Just a few short weeks form the Zippy Invitational, a 3 -day meet that will be telling.

Besides the already documented rise for the WSOC program the past few seasons, culminating in a tie for 4th place in the MAC regular season and a second straight trip to the MAC Tournament, It was great to learn that freshman Goal Keeper Libby Harper, an Englishwoman, was named Freshman of the Year by the 12 MAC Coaching staffs, and that Ashley Amato, who sometimes seemed to carry this team on her shoulders the past 4 seasons, was named first team All-MAC. And that Bailee Bowers was also named tot eh All-Freshman team. I saw Bailee play High School soccer last year for Dublin Jerome HS and was really excited when Coach Herlihy signed her for the Zips. She made the adjustment to NCAA D1 soccer pretty quickly. Shouldn't get my hopes up too quickly, but with only Amato leaving as a senior, 2020 could be an exciting time to get behind this program.

Right.......a little hypocritical since you started a football thread about a first year coach who inherited a mess with: "Can we please fire this "coach"? Not at the end of the season. NOW."

If I recall, didn't ESPN or Fox Sports or someone write our football unis were one of the best in college football? I agree with kreed on this. Some of the worst unis are the football ones where the numbers are the same color of the jersey but have a gold outline around them. Can't read the #s aka Western Michigan in football and in MSOC. -
I'm dreaming, I know that, but I think it's time for one of those Cinderella stories, where the oh-for team has all the stars aligned and the players play perfect games, and EMU takes them way for granted and no one is there to cheer either team, so it doesn't even feel like a game to the Hurons...woops! the Eagles, so they'll play like a scrimmage. Somehow a QB finds a way to lead the team to 3 - three! - touchdowns and the D plays a perfect game and forces 5 punts, and by the time the final clock expires it will be almost midnight and no one will be in the parking lots and I can just get in my car and drive home with a smile on my face.....Huh? Wake up? Oh sorry, Dear, I must have dozed off here in my chair watching it snow outside......This is going to be so embarrassing to go back and re-read after the game....

Yah Baby!! My motto! Maybe this guy was just filling in for a game..... -
For those of you going down for the game, the last time we played there, I got my tickets through the U of A ticket office and the seats we were assigned were ultra-nose bleed. But after the 10 minute media time out, they allow everyone to move down into the lower bowl and lower upper deck, so if you find your self in that position, wait it out!
