Once again....I know my bretheren would rather see the MAC expand, this is another example of why it should drop soccer - IF (and it's a big IF) all 4 member schools have a home to go to. The Big 10 (14) only has 9 schools in men's soccer......what a great fit for Akron, Western, BG and/or Northern Illinois. Travel time would be equivalent for the most part to MAC, we'd play a bigger in-conference schedule against teams like Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, OSU, Rutgers, Penn State, Wisconsin, Northwestern....all schools we have traditional rivalries with throughout the past 10 seasons either in OOC schedules or tournament play. And that would allow us to be a little more choosy in our OOC schedule, with more home matches and a little less strenuous, because lleague play will be. More opportunities to advance to the NCAAs, better recruiting material to lure prospects, TV on the Big 10 Network....a natural, I'm telling you.....

Renting InfoCision Stadium out to the OHSAA
ZipsVoice replied to AkronAlumnus's topic in Akron Zips Football
Just got my OHSAA notes for the Regional finals and this was in there: "About the Regionals and State Semifinals The regional playoffs follow bracket format, beginning with the regional quarterfinals. Regional Quarterfinals (Nov. 8 and 9): During the first round, the higher seed will host the playoff game at its home stadium or the stadium of its choosing. The No. 8 seed will play at the No. 1 seed, the No. 7 seed at No. 2, etc. Regional Semifinals (Nov. 15 and16), Regional Finals (Nov. 22 and 23) and State Semifinals (Nov. 29 and 30): Neutral sites are selected by the OHSAA. There are many factors that go into determining playoff sites, such as quality of field surface, seating capacity, quality of lighting, size of locker rooms and distance from field, press box size, parking spaces available, and a separate locker room for officials. After all those factors are taken into consideration, it must be confirmed that the site is available and willing to host a playoff game on the date needed." -
Thanks for that info Spin, I did not know that. Just assumed we would be fully in the MAC this season. And thanks for the work on the schedule research too.

We are going to get smoked. Well, maybe if we score first, on our first possession, it will help our effort. Seems like when we do, we at least overcome the lack of deep talent and comete for a quarter or quarter and a half. Too many times our first drive looks good, something goes wrong and we don't score, and then it's turn-out-the-lights time. We're only going to score 1 touchdown and i think it's going to be on a return, hence Boogie Knight as my choice, and I think we may get a turnover, but it's going to be a non-forced error on Miami's offense. Pretty negative, huh? My Fearless Forecast is what I said, our lone touchdown will be a return by the Boog-ster......

We've pulled it off many times over the years. We've had bigger games too, we had a state semi-final game. We've had St. Ed's-Hudson, St. Iggy, Stow vs. Solon, Big Red from Steubenville. They've all came off fine. This is not our first rodeo for the OHSAA..... -
I totally agree and love the coach and staff.....but to be honest, and I think Coach would agree, to be named the MAC Coach of the Year is a little bit of an indictment on the MAC as a league. Not many D1 coaches go 6-10-2, even with our OOC schedule, and still win a Coach of the Year Award. These were all his lads, his recruits, and he was never able to get them to consistently play together, hold their shape, especially on Defense, and find the "ideal 11". I know, there were numerous injuries, KEY injuries, but the claim to fame for the staff was the fact that they were able to get these kids to play well enough for 5 matches to win the MAC, a little underwhelming when you think about it. I know this will seem sacrilegious, to many on this board, but understand, my passion is with this team and staff, and mention this only as an honest critique. If we want a more ideal situation, we should petition the MAC to drop men's soccer as a sport and let the 4 REAL MAC member find other homes in larger, more competitive conferences, where we could lessen our need for brutal, on-the-road early-season OOC schedules, and work towards a better strength of schedule and RPI based on our conference. I'm sure there's a Conference out there that would love to have an Akron, with our pedigree, in their mix. Okay, crucify me for my Jared comments....

Man, aint that the truth....I can finally stop trying to explain to myself what happened and why, because Ms. Voice won't listen to me anymore, in fact tells me to "SHUT UP!" when I bring the subject up. I've got my L.F.C. Reds and Barclay's (plus UEFA CL) to get me through the Winter/Spring. But if we hang on to most of the returning players and the incoming class is as good as it looks....ummmm, I think I said the same thing last year after the College Cup. Can't see anywhere but up for this team and program for 2020, because if not, there will definitely be a lot of changes at FES.

I know a lot of guys at BW-3s who weigh 240 pounds and played HS football....doesn't mean any of them are "playable". There's gotta be a reason after 10 games that a player on this team isn't getting PT, and it ain't a conspiracy by the coaching staff against the guy...... -
C'mon...common sense here. Women's BB starts at 2 pm with Michigan and Kent State squaring off and then the Zips play at 4:30, then Men's basketball at 7:30....Zips soccer fans have a 6 pm match, and by the time the fans arrive the JAR parking lot and the ones closest to the JAR will be filled up. Kent State always brings a crowd for WBB and especially since they're playing Michigan and the Zips women are getting bigger crowds. Maybe the U could have worded this better and just said "please be advised parking will be limited, etc...." but they're at least letting you know this will help you avoid parking fees. This is not a snub of the MSOC team or its fans and patrons.

Hey, just another note - IUPFW has a freshman from Aurora HS, Shayla Sellers. She's the daughter of Brad Sellers, former NBA star and Buckeye as well. And Michigan will have Izabel Varejao, niece of Anderson Varejao former Cavs player!

Renting InfoCision Stadium out to the OHSAA
ZipsVoice replied to AkronAlumnus's topic in Akron Zips Football
that was me kreed... posted on Game 5 - UMass thread....here's the summary - Here's what we have - The MAC has 110 players from the area selected. Akron leads by far with 37, and that's after taking Burkhart off the list. Here's the list: Akron - 37 Kent State - 21 Toledo - 17 Ohio - 14 Bowling Green -7 Miami - 6 Buffalo - 5 EMU - 3 Ball State - 2 NIU, CMU, WMU have none on their roster The Big 10 (or 14) have a total of 50 players from the area selected. Here's how they stack up: Ohio State - 17 Michigan State - 11 Michigan - 7 Northwestern - 5 Penn State, Purdue and Minnesota each have 2 Rutgers, Indiana, Nebraska, and Wisconsin each have 1. Maryland, Illinois and Iowa do not have any. The "other" schools have 24 players from the area. I was very surprised to see that Cincinnati leads with 16! Notre Dame has 4, Pitt has 3 and WVU has 1. Marshall has none. -

They would still need to pay all the Game Day help, concession stand workers, pay the light and heating bill, the janitorial help, etc....it may end up to be a wash, maybe a small profit, but you make it sound like a big payday for the school, trust me, it is not. And you keep making it sound like the U is somehow doing something wrong here, they are NOT. -
Renting InfoCision Stadium out to the OHSAA
ZipsVoice replied to AkronAlumnus's topic in Akron Zips Football
I don't understand why you think hosting this game would be in Akron's "best interest?" Why? They've hosted Hoban, St. V, St. Ed's, St. Iggy, Hudson, Stow, all in the past 6 seasons, and what do they have to show for it? More seats in the stands for Zips games, more kids from these schools on scholly here, what? And they have no "everything in their power" to ensure any game is played at Info. Maybe if it was a MAC game or an NCAA FCS or D2 or D3 game they mght have some influence, but they have NO influence with the OHSAA nor do NCAA rules allow any such thing....
