  1. Lighten up Francis, gee-wizz
  2. A double header with WBB playing Cleveland State after
  3. Wrote them off at 28 seconds left.... my bad! Gutsy gritty ending and win!
  4. They SHOULD be okay tonight, despite Jordyn being out. How long she's out will be the main thing. Michigan on the road this weekend, and then home to Cleveland State, plus their Vegas trip, could be impacted seriously. Freshman Regan Bass has looked solid so far, so she may be the key to survival. Getting Tecca back sure wouldn't hurt.
  5. I agree with others. I tend to go to the women's games more so than the men's (imagine that!) and I have been stunned to see Mr. Guthrie at every one. He was at almost every women's soccer match when the football team wasn't playing an away game, he's been at 2 of the swim meets, and at the women's basketball game as well. He was obviously at the men's soccer games. He is on-site, and he is very approachable. He's a bit of a "bragger", but so what? I don't think I saw Larry Williams ever at a women's soccer match, or for sure inside the Ocasek Nat.
  6. Sorry if this has been asked/answered before, but if the choice is Getsy, does Akron have to wait for the Packers season to end to a) announce him, and b) to have him start? If so, won’t that put Akron where they were with Arth, hamstringing him on recruiting and building?
  7. I like the clean new look, thanks for all you do for us!
  8. They may be aware of us, but that doesn't necessarily mean they value us as the brain-trust to help them pick a coach. George Thomas - "So Charles, what was your deciding factor in finding Clyde Kadittlehopper as your head coach?" Charles Guthrie - "Man I really liked what LZip and clarkgriswold had to say about Clyde while I was surfing ZnO last night, so I took a flier and gave him a call..." (No offense to you two, just picked names off the screen)
  9. Really? This early, you know how they looked vs. the Suckeyes, don't quit yet....
  10. So, we drove over to Youngstown to watch the women play YSU. Competitive close game, but still no Emma Tecca. Anyone know anything?
  11. It's also an indication that there isn't enough staff to handle 2 events at the same time.....☺️
  12. I humbly submit my apologies and admit I was wrong, the NCAA Committee did the right thing and put the Zips in, and not only that...they got a home match!!! Go Zips!!!!
  13. I hadn't Noticed until I read this. Hmmm...
  14. Jordyn was fantastic last night. She played as a leader, scoring and assisting, and boy did she, and the rest of the team look waay more fit than last year, slimmed down and had more quickness, IMO.
  15. GP1, you treaded where I wanted to go, but was afraid to be accused of, well, you know... i believe the next HC will be a minority, but not because he is a minority, but it will be an added feature, if you will. I thing AD Charles and CFO Marcus will pursue this avenue, as there are no minorities (other than women) at the helm of any of the Zips 14 or 15 programs. I don’t believe it will be a priority, but I think it will be a “tie-breaker” if you will...
  16. You guys need to find something else to do the next week rather than be delusional that this team will get an at-large. This is the NCAA, that didn’t even give a sniff to a great Zip team a few years back that lost in the MAC tourney. Ain’t gonna happen...
  17. Thanks Zipmeister for noticing a woman's sporting event, and YES! They pulled out a big win today 2-0, a win that probably will save another coaches job at Akron.
  18. Thanks for posting something on women's basketball. I got into watching the team last year more than in the past, because the games were all streamed and during the daytime hours due to CoVid restrictions. I wish them well this year, but they have to find a way to spread the offense around more than just try to let Jordyn Dawson isolate, she tried too hard and lots of times took it on herself rather than try to get her teammates involved. Would love to see the coaching staff get her "selfishness" out of her. Just my opinion, but she didn't seem to be the go-to scorer, just the go-to shooter.
  19. I think that will be the course of action AD Guthrie takes....make life miserable for Arth and let him leave on his own accord, rather than paying him to coach somewhere else, as a position coach or head.
  20. Say what you want about the offensive side of the ball, but where in the world is the defensive abilities, either on the field or in the coaching office? They are terrible! A stop somewhere along the line might have given the offense a little boost of confidence too. Or give them the feeling they still had a chance. Every time the offense got their hands on the ball it was the result of a kickoff after a Temple score. No turnovers at all. Temple punted on their first possession, the first possession of the second half, and then not again until 3 minutes left in the game. Just pathetic defensive play. Either lack of talent from poor recruiting or lack of coaching or coachability.
  21. I thought I read on the MAC website a few months back that there will be a 4-team tourney for both sports next Spring hosted by the higher seeded team?
  22. I think what Clayton was trying to say is you can't deny Akron is an elite program, maybe not. I know the track program is not on par with the SEC elites, the West Coast elites, the other Power 5 elites, but they certainly have to be viewed as a mid-major elite program. Or was until the budget crunch and pandemic hit. Who knows where they stand today, after lots of bloodletting, and defections like Noah Williams and some others rumored to be entering the transfer portal. But with athletes like Murphy, pole vaulters Shawn Barber (world champion), Matt Ludwig (NCAA champion), Anika Roloff (NCAA and German National Champion) as alums, as well as lots of former zips who routinely qualify for NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships, it''s apparent they are a mid-major elite program, borderline major. They don't have the depth of the big schools, usually only a handful of "elite" athletes, but I think the past 5 or 6 seasons they've been ranked in DI NCAA in the top 30 programs consistently, indoor and outdoor, and also I think in the dual meet rankings as well. I too hope the new AD and admin can soothe the wounds with Clayton. There needs to be some creative way to get some finances to bring the outdoor facility (non-existent?) up to spped with their indoor facility, or "elite" will not be a word used in the future.
