For the sake of argument let’s just say they don’t give a dam about football - they would still want them to win because of all the benefits that go with it: more income, more university exposure, etc etc. Unfortunately, they have backed themselves into a position where it’s a catch 22. They aren’t winning so nobody goes to the games, nobody goes to the games so they don’t get any revenue, then they have to schedule Ohio State away games to get the paycheck. Viscous cycle

That Indiana team was 3-9 and beat a bowl team (Wisconsin) had several close losses to some pretty good teams, so they weren’t completely horrible

Wouldn’t it make sense to add another school to get an even number of teams again? Although I guess it doesn’t really matter in the new football format, but for basketball and other sports, that might help.

Good interview, and very timely for this discussion. Assuming that he was telling the truth, it sure sounds like Syracuse decided to go a different direction. Maybe the new coaching staff will be running a defense that they don’t feel is a good fit for Tristen. Regardless, this is a very good signing for the Zips. I think this type of thing happens way more than people realize.

This is really odd…he commits to Syracuse on August 1, takes his official visit on December 13, de commits on December 19 one day before signing day. Did something happen on official visit that he didn’t like? Did Syracuse kick him to the curb last minute? Would love to know the story of what happened. Dino Babers was fired in November, maybe the new staff didn’t want him, but if so, very odd to pull the carpet out from him right before signing day. 🤔

Is anyone familiar with how the athletic department budget works? It seems that at most big schools the football department helps support other sports. At Akron the ticket sales obviously don’t help much but I’m curious about the big paydays that they receive against Ohio State, Tennessee, etc. Does the football team keep this money or does it all get absorbed into the entire athletic budget? Thanks, I’ll hang up and listen.
