  1. Not sod. It doesn't work on a sloped bank. That's what they've said. Grass seating won't be available this season. Fall is a good time to plant grass. It lies dormant over the winter and begins to grow in the spring. It should be ready for 2010.
  2. Looks great !
  3. Hey! We found a national website that's aware of the new stadium! Those tickets are on the 50 yard line, guaranteed to be available and it's the first game at Infocision. They're going to ask for a premium price but would probably negotiate for less...same as anything else.
  4. Rubber what?
  5. I'd guess you could get scalped tickets on game day for less than face value ...psu fan interest in attending won't be that high for the lowly akron zips.
  6. If Akron wins this game, Bobby Bowden might end up with more all time wins than Joe Pa. We could go down in the history books
  7. I'm sure the chapel could get a premium price from the U. for their property and in this economy could buy some land cheap to build a new church to spec. It would be hard for them to beat their current central location w/easy rte. 8 access though. Which of course is why it would also be a good spot for an arena.I also like the south of exchange idea just because it would mean a couple blocks of slumlord housing would have to be cleared. That's the worst aspect of our campus, most vulnerable to crime, and biggest deterrent to potential students, IMO which is why I voted thusly. Logistics would be the same as with Info, for better or worse.I also don't have a problem with a downtown site since the U. needs to have symbiotic relationships with businesses, the city, and hospitality/entertainment zones anyway...not rigid separation.I would like the CH site to remain academic, preferably for a new library/archives/media center to replace Bierce one day.The JAR would still be useful for a lot of things like basketball/volleyball practice, team gathering space and locker rooms for events at the field house, existing classrooms & offices...
  8. Save your money and join Zips Zone instead. If you're doing well in this economy, you can donate the difference to a proper charity and not a Big Tobacco school.
  9. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?...0.DTL&tsp=1The one event where I always root for the Bulls
  10. NDSU is in the MAC footprint? I think that's too far away & we don't need more Nov. frozen bowls.Did Army used to be in CUSA? I guess they left a while ago but my memory is fuzzy on that. I agree they just wouldn't feel like they fit in the MAC with all those darn Ohio schools.I chose UMass to give us more eastern exposure to get us ready for the move to the BE Plus they have more name recognition from other sports and they're the only school that tops us in polymer science. It's cold there in Nov. as well but at least you could always swing over to Boston and find lots of things to see and do. Or if it's earlier in the season you could head up to Maine for the foliage...Portland is also a very cool place to visit.
  11. uconn & temple, 2003. If you don't want to count pro stadiums, it looks like mtsu, utah & louisville in 1998. Then again, this site says our first game is 9/19 and the Rubber Bowl is about to be demolished..http://www.collegegridirons.com/comparisonsallage.htm
  12. I think we're waiting for a lot of players who are waiting for the BCS teams to make some decisions. When the B10 & BE teams start making more offers the dominoes will start falling and we'll see who we get. I don't mind waiting longer if it means getting better players. I know they like our new stadium & campus but they're still looking at overall programs and conferences and we are still in the MAC.
  13. We got lucky...he transferred to Valdosta State.
  14. I think they should give out commemorative Zips hard hats for the opening game, like the one MR wears in the video ! "Men at Work"...fits with the Australia theme
  15. Broken foot rubs out Arthurhttp://www.calgaryherald.com/Sports/Broken...0675/story.html
  16. I think the Zips will be focused in the moment for Morgan State and opening the stadium with a large crowd. There will be some nerves from all the excitement so I think it's better to have the FCS opponent for the first game...more room for error. Then we'll be more settled for IU in the 2nd game.
  17. Only $81 each. Those Hoosiers really love their football !
  18. Do you mean are they hiring creative thinkers?
  19. It does seem disappointing. Maybe they figure we don't need as big of paydays now with the new stadium and we have a better chance of winning than @OSU, Wisconsin, PSU, etc. After all, we now know we can beat an ACC team on the road.
  20. http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/...6450.xml&coll=2"We used to call the place Hilltop High. Now it looks like a real college campus," said Bill Hauser, an assistant marketing professor who earned his degrees at Akron. "The mayor will shoot me for this, but Akron is almost becoming a college town with Akron U in the center of it."
  21. http://www.indeonline.com/index.php?ID=14579&r=2&Category=1An earlier Massillon Independent article (that I hadn't seen before)
  22. It looks like that was a PSU fan comment so I think he was referring to the Zips v. PSU in 94 when we were no match for their speed. Tressel and The U. of Ohio State (I like that name, until people stop saying Akron U.) will still be licking their wounds from the bowl game so I expect they won't be napping on us at all. I hope our QB-to-be can chuck some long balls down the field to maybe surprise them or at least keep them a little bit honest. I think we will give them a good workout but over 4 qtrs it's pretty tough. IIRC, the last time we played them they probably could have scored again at the end of the game but ran it out so no, we weren't going to upset them that day. My main goals for 07 are to develop the QB's and OL, recruit-recruit-recruit, and get the new stadium site acquired and levelled.
  23. Earl is correct that I.C. stadium will be a palace compared to Fawcett and NFL officials and players, the broadcast media and Stark Countians will be aware of it. I don't think the game will suddenly be moved to Akron but it will apply some pressure to upgrade Fawcett. If they do a remodelling and need an alternate site for the HOF game one year they will have a nice one just up the road. And I love that all those Stark Countians will be flocking up the the UA campus for HS football and spending money and having a great time in Akron. They might just decide to come back for some college FB.
  24. Until we prove we can beat them, Army has our number and we have a raw offense and special teams. How many penalties will we commit (remember last year)? Will we turn the ball over? If nothing else, Army will be tough, disciplined, well coached and inspired to be playing in an NFL stadium, which is not our home field. We may be favored but I'm not ringing the victory bell yet.
  25. I figured the U. would give the Rubber Bowl site back to the city since the city gave it to UA back in the day for next to nothing...I mean, wouldn't that be the decent thing to do?I don't think noisy auto racing would work out with all the residences to the north and east. Recreational/ballfields/soccer, etc. would be better IMO.
