@UAZips0510 by your logic our football team has the chance to win the National Championship this year. With the basketball team why stop at the Sweet 16 why not the National Championship. How does the saying go....If "ifs and buts" were candy and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas. This team came up short when it counted. This was not about a missed jumper this game was about plenty of more failed/missed opportunities. The turnovers were unacceptable. The team then proceeded to prove exactly what kind of team they were (not the team you are suggesting by the way) by losing the first game in the NIT. I'd find it a lot easier to agree with you if this team went on to play in the NIT Champinoship or something along those lines but this team couldn't beat a team that has never been to the NCAA tournament. It is time to stop making excuses for this team and treat them like men. They failed at their mission to get to the NCAA tournament and then they bowed out in the first game of the Not In Tournament tournament.

Can you actually do this and send them to your own community college or your own "other" school. Can Polsky become the UA Community College, Wayne Campus, Medina etc. Can you use semantics to send them to your school and keep them off the record books.

I don't know if Cooper is ready for the NBA or if he ever will be, but I don't believe he has much to prove by staying another year too. I suspect UNC will destroy them...they have an impressive inside game that won't go soft on them.

I went to the championship game with a good friend who graduate d from OU. He wore a light blue and white pinstripe shirt to the game -- while my wife and I were decked out in our Akron gear. I explained to him I found it hard to take him seriously as he rooted for OU. He texted me yesterday and wanted to know how I like OU now? I asked him if he was really going to commit now and by some gear -- stop being a poser (is that word still used). He told me he had an OU hat. OU fan is funny in this sense and actually not terribly unlike Joe Akron. I do give him credit though -- he is not an OSU honk. My other OU friends are OSU honks from the word go and I can't even get them to join me when Akron plays OU in anything.

I have been enjoying watching OU beat some of the bigger schools. I continue to be disappointed in the finish of our season. I thought this team had much more potential but I learned from other posters I'm supposed to be happy we won a MAC Championship (that mean's squat in basketball) and not want more for my team. I learned this loud and clear from a fan that will visit htis site for about another year while the rest of us with vested interests in our alma mater continue to root for them to go beyond the MAC for many years to come.

By far my favorite play of the evening!

No excuses for getting beat off the like they have been in the first half. I expected to see missed assignments but some of these baskets are just blowing by our guys like they are standing there. Love to see some Zone with Zeke in the middle to swat away the driving layups. I am okay with making them make long jumpers but the guys need to get their arms up in the air -- they are offering little resistance. Hopefully first half was butterflys and they'll get that worked out now.

If the team didn't want to play in the NIT they should have just stayed home...how embarassing.

Before we get ahead of ourselves...NW was 11-5 at home. Only two of those losses were buy greater than two points....Baylor and Michigan in OT. http://www.dailynorthwestern.com/sports/me...akron-1.2714652 I think our team gets lost playing defense agains offenses they see regularly. I hope KD has come up with something to make it easy on them tonight.

http://www.news-herald.com/articles/2012/0...02135124412.txt Trubisky will not be at Akron and I will not share any additional information. The kid is talented and I've seen him about a half dozen times...I'm still surprised to see these kinds of offers.

Game is on the deuce....Marshall got the ESPN3 game.

Drawing Northwestern is the best thing that could have happened to Akron. The run they will get onESPN which is full of Northwestern journalism grads will be worth it. Wilbon and Greenburg are NW guys who have regular ESPN time slots and will find time to talk about their alma mater. They have been working them into the conversation for the past couple weeks.

Dave you are an idiot! Someone who wants and expects more from the Zips is not a part time fan. We have upped our standards Dave....up yours.

We all loved Ken Lolla. We were amazed at what he did at Akron. We were afraid when he left it would be over....it wasn't. Caleb came and showed us how much better we can be than Ken had made us. By no means would I want to let KD go, but I refuse to think this is the best we can hope for. KD's post game comments as of late have been consistent and I am sure he wants to win, but he sounds like a man who has made piece with settling....like it or not. KD enjoys jabbing the fair weather Joe Akron fan. Like I said he came last night and now has his built in excuse why he won't be there next year. If he is going to jab Joe Akron why is it blasphemous to jab back?

I agree. Last nights game was a 1 point loss but OU was in control the entire game...or so it felt.

Joe Akron was at the game last night and this team had an opportunity to win them over a little more...we failed. If this team gets a 7 seed in the not in tournament that is a complete embarrassment. Don't compare expectations in soccer to basketball. If you want to compare expectations those expectations should be to win the tourney and if not still be in the NCAA tourney - we never are in that conversation. Listen I love playing in the MAC Championship, but 2-4 is failure in the only game that counts for this team. This team can't seem to get over the hump. Every year we have to hope we win the tourney and we have failed 66% of thevtime when we are there. You can tell me how many teams would love to be in our shoes but I don't want to be compared to teams who are okay with winning 2 of 6 games. DJ Cooper has lead his team to 2 Championships in 3 years and I saw nothing last night that makes me feel like we will stop him next year. Our prime player during that time has not commanded the game like DJ. The one game he did we won....last year. Finally, Dambrodt doesn't seem to take any loss very hard any more and I wonder if he has the fire. Last night post game was more of we poured our hearts out and got beat. They played sloppy basketball and had the ball simply taken from them numerous times. Tree can't seem to hold the ball without getting it stripped. All in all maybe I should expect to lose instead of get excited for this team and I will feel better. If your okay with traveling in the NIT I would suggest your expectations aren't high enough but they are probably in line with the basketball program. KD didn't seem too upset last night at all. Maybe he is our Ken Lolla the guy who could get us almost to where we want to be but not where we want to be.

The key to our success is beating OU. They return just as much and beat our brains in at OU then beat us again tonight.
-
I feel like nobody remembers the beat down OU gave Akron like two weeks ago? I hope our guys decide to guard four feet off the three point line tonight. I will be there screaming for the Zips but my faith in the Zips based on what I saw at OU is low. OU 69-Zips68

The tickets last year were even with the hoop. Right next to the $17 tickets...not behind the hoop.

Cap'n do yourself a solid and leave time on the walk back for a 3Floyds at Greenhouse.
-
It may sound strange, but Greenhouse has the best wings on the planet and for my beer drinking friends......3 Floyds on tap. 3Floyds is as rare as they come around here and probably the best beer I have ever had.

End of the Cheap MAC Finals Tickets?
Big Zip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I saw the Lottery sponsorship still in effect this year on the MAC website. We actually did that last year and I have to say that is the deal of the century. -
Congratulations Zips Men's Basketball Team!

Congratulation gentlemen...let's take that second half at Can't into the Tourney! -
Happily eat my words regarding this team's demise. The second half Zips tonight were awesome tonight.

Just noticed that the Gladiators have four Zips on their roster before the final cut down to 24. Would love to see some of these guys get a chance to chase their dream. Jalil Carter, Almondo Sewell, Mike Ward and Shawn Lemon....sending good thoughts to them this week.
