I say I'm not going to renew year in and year out, but then I do. This year I'm going to stay strong. I am going to return my tickets with a letter explaining why. I don't expect Tom to care, but I can always hope. I'm not longer going to contribute to the problem that is UA football until they agree to do something about the problem. i was so excited for a new stadium just a few years ago and now I'm ready to pack it in because the coach made a bad hire in Tom Wistricill who in turn made the worst hire I've ever seen in iCoach. He is far and away the worst coach I have ever seen and I'm including when I played bantam football in the 70s.
-
I would kindly ask those that are on this board and frequent it regularly who own season tickets to not renew next year. It will be the only way the University gets the message.
-
Cap'n the only thing that will get me to renew my tickets next year is a coaching change. I will spend my time catching some high school football on Friday nights and perhaps a college game or two within driving distance. Last night when Miami was up 21-0 my daughter said "Dad I'm rooting for Miami." She is six years-old and already sick of losing.
-
Cap'n let's be honest -- PN7 has beaten both teams, but the real problem is not the quarterback it is the coaching. Once we are rid of the coaching we can objectively look at this team. Unfortunately I'm not sure if there will be any fans left to see that if Wistricilll insists on keeping iCoach. I'm not against PN7 starting the next game, but you have always been a fan of his to the point where I recall all of us complaining about him last year and you defending him. Maybe both can't play.....maybe we need to see a third quarterback. I am actually at a point where a press conference to see an iCoach firing would be more appealing than a Zips win. This season is lost completely and a win does nothing for us. Another season of iCoach and we may never recover. Oh how I long for the days of Owens and Brookhardt....hell Faust too.

Do we half to play the second half?
-
I feel like our guys don't understand what they are supposed to be doing out there...how is it possible to be this bad? I would like to see Dorazio at this point...I have now seen enough of LR8 and PN7.
-
This actually makes me excited about the game tonight and seeing how things go running this the entire game.
-
He is the fourth ranked WR in New Jersey -- I think that what the poster meant.
-
Do they still take phone calls on this show? I haven't listened in awhile, but can't remember hearing a phone call in even longer. Pretty sad that Gary Waters has his own show and KD has to share his who with all the other sports at UA.
-
Perhaps Lebron's boy Terrel Pryor and KD can convince Lebron to pay out iCoach and bring in Tressel since that is Pryor's guy and we know Lebron loved OSU.
-
Didn't he play seven games in the spread under Brookhart? How'd he do?
-
Cap'n where did you go at the end of the first half? I know you don't leave the game, but you weren't sitting in front of me any longer.Listen....I do believe the real blown call was going for two early in the game yesterday and I don't believe it was on the players to make that decision. At this point in the season with nothing on the line I still loved the call to go for the win. iCoach did go against convential wisdom though....I think conventional wisdom dictates go for the tie at home and the win on the road. Hopefully Tom Gaffney will ask iCoach "If we can all say your team plays infinitely better in the pistol why do you insist on putting them back under center?"
-
I agree with GP1 I am going to reserve my judgement for after the next game. CMU did everything they could yesterday to give us that game which was surprising considering they have played with better teams than us earlier this year. Yesterday's game was pretty horrible to watch in the first half....I'll say it again -- this team plays much better from the pistol then they do from their standard offensive formation. Moore seems to be able to see the field better -- he doesn't need as much time because he is already five steps back. iCoach needs to suck it up and ditch his offense for the pistol. I'd love to see an entire game using that formation and not just when we fall behind. I also like the no huddle....would love to see it run the entire game.

GOOD GRIEF. Snatch defeat from the jaws of victory
Big Zip replied to akronzips71's topic in Akron Zips Football
I was good with the second call to go for two. The first was a mystery and agree that there needs to be a way for iCoach to call off the two point option. The receivers are terrible though...they don't just drop passes they stop on plays. The INT Moore threw today the receiver never turned around and was stopping as if the play was over. Moore there some other passes that were simply dropped and another one that was perfectly thrown short to the sideline and the receiver slipped and fell. There were others too, but I am not going to go into them all.My real question is...how doesn't iCoach see how much better his team performs in the no huddle and the pistol. It was like night and day. -
I was not found of PN7 and saw from him the same thing I saw from him in high school. I think what you are seeing more of though is people deciding that neither of these kids has a chance to succeed with the Bozos running this show. To that.....we saw PN7 have an opportunity to succeed in an environment more conducive to him when he played seven games his Freshman year. We haven't seen LR8 in a an offense more conducive to his style. Both of these guys played in a modified spread and suceeded in high school. iCoach is fitting a square peg into a round whole, but I'm not sure I expect much else from him...he is terrible.

Is anyone heading to the final game of the regular season to watch Mitch and company finish the season undefeated. This team is currently ranked number 1 in the state and no. 22 Nationally according to Max Preps. What Trivisonno has done in Mentor is nothing short of amazing. Mentor has been the biggest or one of the biggest schools in the state for a long time, but could never put together a decent football team. Trivisonno has put in a no-huddle hurry up offense that attempts to get a pass off every 17 seconds and they've gone to two State Championship games in his time there and is hoping to actually win one this year. All of this with the same type of kids that have always been there and few Div. 1 recruits. Does this in some way validate what some of us have been saying on this board for a long time...our offense is not suited to winning given our circumstances and standing in the college football world. This is not to say this would guarantee our team to be better (as witnessed by JD) but it seems like a much better plan than the one we are working on now. If Ianello has to stay I'd love to see him reach out to Trivisonno and ask him to be the offensive coordinator and bring Mentor's offense to Akron. He's making $81,000 this year so I'm sure it would be a bump in salary for him. With any luck he could bring Mitch along. By the way Mitch has 2,554 yards passing in 8 games and has seen interest from Iowa, Pitt, Minnesota and Kansas....not that these are offers, but it sure would be nice to have a guy on the inside for a QB who might be able to start for four years here who knows the offense.

Took a look at the Sagarin Rankings today....182 for Akron. 164 for Can't. EMU is 87 believe it or not and this week's guest CMU comes in at 124. For the record Toledo comes in the highest at 34 followed by Temple at 47.The rest of our schedule....Miami 127, Buffalo 126 and WMU 69. I know outside of the top 30 or so these ratings probably mean little, but it does have Akron dead last in the MAC which I"m guessing is pretty spot on and has a number lower level Div. 1 schools ahead of us including YSU at 135. This is so embarassing...how is this acceptable to the administration? Tell me where they see progress from this team. I continue to re-new my tickets each year, but I promise you that I will not next year. This will be my last year as a season ticket holder and I agree with the others that say if you re-new your accepting what this administration is putting forth and deserve what you get on the field.

Contrary to popular belief...the CLE+ market (that means only one team in this market) would make a large market for a conference. Also, a week or so ago in Sports Business Daily there was a list of the Top 15 Naming Rights Deals Among College/Minor League Venues....Summa Field at Infocision Stadium was tied for 8th with UCF, Louisville, Creighton and the Sacramento River Cats. Also, the University set a fundraising record last year with something like $48 million (in a year). Akron is not a small player and has huge potential in the financial game. Not to mention the facilities, the increasing size of the school, the alumni base is quite large too! If you look past the football past becaus it is not all about football I think Akron is a fine candidate for promotion to another conference.

Second round of conference expansion is beginning.

There is talk about the Big12 actually being the Big12 again....after all with TCU heading to the Big12 I think they only have 12, but apparently Missouri is talking about bolting to the SEC. This is all hard to keep track of. You know if our Football program was evern .500 you'd have to believe we'd be in the conversation with the Men's Basketball Team playing well and the Soccer Team National Championship. -
This thread seems dedicated to telling me everyone who hasn't committed to Akron. If we offered and they don't accept -- why do i care? Should an 2012 Recruiting in the Akron Football Recruiting area be dedicated to us?

USAToday ranks Akron 182 out of 246 teams
Big Zip replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips Football
Of course not, but I don't have to because I know they are part of the big boy division not the little division 1. -

You can call it a banana split but they consindered two separate divisions. I do not consider them the same. -

Why would we count FCS? Are you saying we should compare ourself to a lower Division? My expectation do not having anything to do with comparing ourselves to FCS schools we don't play in the FCS division -

Actually I think there are only 120 Div. 1 teams. -
I agree we measure progress in wins, but understand Doug's point. Yesterday's game was surprising to me from a score standpoint, but to think this team competed well yesterday versus FIU trying to give the game away is not watching very critically. Progress to me will be seeing iCoach adjust to his talent versus fitting a square peg into a round hole. i just don't see much of this at all. I want to see more creativity from the offense. I think we saw yesterday that Moore can be effective with his feet we should leverage this in the offense. I think Moore gets the ball batted down a lot and we should probably move him out from behind center into the shotgun a lot more often....moving the pocket etc. My biggest disappointment yesterday was the defensive coordinator. I hope I'm not the only person who noticed the lack of coaching going on by the defensive coordinator. Everytime I saw the team come off the field they would trudge to their ring of chairs and sit there amongst themselves while the coach was nowhere near them and not talking to them at all. It was like he had nothing to tel them. The team just sat there by themselves every time they came off the field. If the d-coordinators ida of coaching is giving his team the silent treatment....please fire him now.
