Ive started to root for more middle of the conference teams to win their conference tournaments, like WKU and Detroit (except for the MAC of course). I figure the more that sneak in like that, the more likely they are to be lower seeded and maybe raise the Zips up a line. Like the projected WAC winner, Nevada. is a seed line above us. So say a 4th seed Utah State WAC Conference title would probably help us. Anything to help give us a little more of an advantage. The Zips have to keep up their end of the bargain of course.

WMU had little trouble with NIU. Would like to see them upset the Flashes now.
-
Dang it. Was looking forward to seeing the Zips play at Temple this coming year.
-
That is an excellent set of teams for us to be in with next year and there isn't any of them the Zips should be afraid of facing with the group we have returning.
-
Sine this particular writer covers BG, my guess is the Captain is correct. Harney hit the buzzer beater there. I think Scott Thomas is a very good player but I wouldn't put him first team over Zeke. Maybe a little more BG bias there.
-
If you get them through the Akron ticket office as Dr. Z suggested, you will be assured of sitting with other Zips fans at least. Plus it makes UA look better when they sell a higher allotment of tickets. Don't believe the price is any different.
-
That may be a subversive move since that subregional is actually being played in Pittsburgh. We'd have to drop to a 15 or 16 seed to play in Louisville.
-
First MAC tournament I have ever been able to attend in person. Took the day off to drive up and see the Zips win it all again! I am planning on being there around 5.

And on the flip side, congrats to DistrictBaller and VCU who are heading back again this year after winning the CAA tournament. No sweating out Selection Sunday this year. That means Drexel is heading for the NIT as well. No matter what you think of the NIT, I think it's great that they reserve a slot for the regular season conference champs who don't make the NCAA's.
-
ORU just got eliminated in their tournament. 27-6 and headed to the NIT. Hope we avoid a similar fate.

Stainbrook's offensive stats might be a little better than Zeke's (but again with ten games against the West, Zeke got ten against the East), but I bet you could take a poll of MAC coaches, 11 of the 12 would take Zeke on their team over Stainbrook (one coach would be an idiot and it probably wouldn't even be Hawkins).

While the post season could certainly skew the results, I think you can make a pretty good argument for each of the choices above: Zeke - Leading scorer and intimidating defensive presence Nik - Second leading scorer and leading rebounder Alex - Third leading scorer, top assist man, the engine that made the Zips go Brian - Leading 3 pointer shooter (by far), good ball handler, terrific rebounding guard Quincy - Most versatile player on the team, good scorer, good defender Tree - by request

Watt I can buy, but Murphy, no way. Beat Keith by two votes, 12-10. Witherspoon had two and deserved it more than Murphy did. The only reason EMU had a "good" record was because they play in the West. Not even a top four seed in the tournament and went 2-4 against the East. Ridiculous.
-
Zeke is listed in the team stats as taking one other three pointer this year. Nick Harney is still the fourth leading scorer this year with very few threes in with his points. Thta surprised me a little.
-
I believe he plays alongside "Zach Marshall".
-
That's funny, it bugs me when Paul Winters is referred to as Ron.

Now that the dust has settled, I think Akron couldn't have gotten a much better draw. While I am disappointed there is no chance now of an all East final six (since Miami and BGSU ended up on the same side of the bracket), the most dangerous teams are on the 2-3 side of the bracket. I think Toldeo and BGSU both are upset capable and could knock off OU at the Q. No one on 1-4 side scares me (doesn't mean there won't be an upset, just I am far less nervous about WMU,EMU, NIU, Ball State and Can't than the goup on the other side). Just make it hard for whoever survives that side. I've seen some comments on both the OU and Buffalo message boards that we drew Can't. I'd much rather have them than either OU or Buffalo. I think that's going to be a slugfest.
-
BGSU up 9 with 9:00 to play, I want whoever has the best chance to knock out both Buffalo and OU. I think that might be BGSU. I'm not as worried about Can't, I think the Zips are in their heads. I think not only is Zeke in Justin Greene's head, he's walking around, opening doors and maybe thinking of taking up residence.

Congratulations Zips Men's Basketball Team!

Pretty amazing that of all of the great teams before this one, this ia the first to win a regular season MAC title. Congrats to a great effort in a year when the MAC has been better than in the recent past. I've never gotten to see a MAC tournament in person but I'm making plans to come and see this one. -
I wonder if he was right, I did find only one scenario where Can't would not be the four. I don't see an error, but its academic now. Winners: Buffalo, EMU Losers: BGSU, OU 1: Akron 13-3 2: Buffalo 12-4 3: Can't 10-6 4: EMU 10-6 (Record among tied teams, Can't 2-1, EMU 1-1, OU 1-2) 5: OU 10-6 6: BGSU 9-7

Down to only four possibilities now, OU and Buffalo now locked into the 2-3 seed spots (Buffalo win gives them a 2, a loss gives them a 3) and Can't locked as the 4 no matter what. We may indeed get to see the Flashes again. I think this sets up pretty well. 1: Winners: Buffalo, EMU, OU Losers: BGSU 1: Akron 13-3 2: Buffalo 12-4 3: OU 11-5 4: Can't 10-6 (Can't beat EMU) 5: EMU 10-6 6: BGSU 9-7 4: Winners: Buffalo, OU Losers: BGSU, EMU 1: Akron 13-3 2: Buffalo 12-4 3: OU 11-5 4: Can't 10-6 5: EMU 9-7 (EMU beat BGSU) 6: BGSU 9-7 5: Winners: BGSU, EMU, OU Losers: Buffalo 1: Akron 13-3 2: OU 11-5 (OU swept Buffalo) 3: Buffalo 11-5 4: Can't 10-6 (Record among tied teams Can't 2-1, EMU 1-1, BGSU 1-2) 5: EMU 10-6 6: BGSU 10-6 8: Winners: BGSU, OU Losers: Buffalo, EMU 1: Akron 13-3 2: OU 11-5 (OU swept Buffalo) 3: Buffalo 11-5 4: Can't 10-6 (1-1 against each other, 0-2 Akron, 1-1 OU, Buffalo, so drops agains to EMU, 1-0 vs 0-1) 5: BGSU 10-6 6: EMU 9-7

These are the only remaining possibilities for the top six seeds with the teams still in play and the games today: 1: Winners: Buffalo, EMU, OU Losers: BGSU 1: Akron 13-3 2: Buffalo 12-4 3: OU 11-5 4: Can't 10-6 (Can't beat EMU) 5: EMU 10-6 6: BGSU 9-7 2: Winners: Buffalo, EMU Losers: BGSU, OU 1: Akron 13-3 2: Buffalo 12-4 3: Can't 10-6 4: EMU 10-6 (Record among tied teams, Can't 2-1, EMU 1-1, OU 1-2) 5: OU 10-6 6: BGSU 9-7 3: Winners: Buffalo Losers: BGSU, OU, EMU 1: Akron 13-3 2: Buffalo 12-4 3: OU 10-6 (OU and Can't are 1-1, but OU has a better record against the higher seed, Akron, 1-1 vs 0-2) 4: Can't 10-6 (Can't beat EMU) 5: EMU 9-7 (EMU beat BGSU) 6: BGSU 9-7 4: Winners: Buffalo, OU Losers: BGSU, EMU 1: Akron 13-3 2: Buffalo 12-4 3: OU 11-5 4: Can't 10-6 5: EMU 9-7 (EMU beat BGSU) 6: BGSU 9-7 5: Winners: BGSU, EMU, OU Losers: Buffalo 1: Akron 13-3 2: OU 11-5 (OU swept Buffalo) 3: Buffalo 11-5 4: Can't 10-6 (Record among tied teams Can't 2-1, EMU 1-1, BGSU 1-2) 5: EMU 10-6 6: BGSU 10-6 6: Winners: BGSU, EMU Losers: Buffalo, OU 1: Akron 13-3 2: Buffalo 11-5 3: EMU 10-6 (Record among tied teams, EMU 2-1, Can't 3-2, OU 2-3, BGSU 2-3) 4: Can't 10-6 5: OU 10-6 (better record than BGSU against highest seed, Akron, 1-1 vs 0-2) 6: BGSU 10-6 7: Winners: BGSU Losers: Buffalo, OU, EMU 1: Akron 13-3 2: Buffalo 11-5 3: OU 10-6 (Record among tied teams Can't 2-2, OU 2-2, BGSU 2-2, OU has the best record vs highest seed, Akron, 1-1 vs 0-2 and 0-2, Can't vs BGSU drops all the way to EMU 1-0 vs 0-1) 4: Can't 10-6 5: BGSU 10-6 6: EMU 9-7 8: Winners: BGSU, OU Losers: Buffalo, EMU 1: Akron 13-3 2: OU 11-5 (OU swept Buffalo) 3: Buffalo 11-5 4: Can't 10-6 (1-1 against each other, 0-2 Akron, 1-1 OU, Buffalo, so drops agains to EMU, 1-0 vs 0-1) 5: BGSU 10-6 6: EMU 9-7

If it happens, great. But for now, I am hijacking this thread so that it refers to the celebration of the Zips mens basketball championship!
-
And that's the worst we can do. Root for EMU and Miami. If both win, OU falls the the fifth seed.
