	Huh. I enjoyed the alley-oop.

Ok, passive maybe wasn't the best word. I just want to see him dominate and be physical. He made an easy dunk. The blocks are always impressive but idk I just want to see him do more...imoI will not be impressed with 10 pts a game.I will if he dominates like that on the defensive end. He doesn't have to be our go to scorer. I did see him getting down on himself a little after the foul. I wish he'd let himself make a mistake and move on.

Great job so far - so when did Zeke change his first name to "the 7 footer"?

Weekly College Soccer Polls
MDZip replied to GoZipsGoZips's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
We lost to two currently bottom feeder programs, one of them at home. That explains it. I'd didn't excpect another national chmapionship this year, but I'd like to at least see a top 16 seed. NIU could actually help us this year if we meet and beat them in the finals. -
Since the MAC has done little to help advance soccer (witness two schools who have no other association with the MAC being associate members because otherwise the MAC would not have enough teams to get the automatic bid, rather than helping more member institutions adopt it again), its an interesting idea. Yes, I know it has mostly to do with Title IX, but almost every MAC school used to have a men's soccer team. Shame they all got sacrificed in the name of football because of Title IX. Akron might be one of the few schools that could pull off soccer independence now (not that I'm advocating it), and become the Notre Dame of soccer (except we win a lot more). MAC soccer could well collapse in that case (despite that it looks like NIU will likely make the tourney this year).

Interesting and sad story by someone who grew up in and around the Penn State "family".

Big game next week -vs- Wadsworth. Classic old Suburban League matchup. Should be a good one. When I was there, Wadsworth hadn't even joined the Surburban League yet. Damn, I'm getting old

If we're giving high school football playoff shout outs, way to go Hudson Explorers for a first round playoff victory.

The Editors Note in that article states: “The Best of the Midwest” consists of athletes that compete for colleges located in the following states – Michigan, Minnesota, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Illinois, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Missouri, and Wisconsin. So Zeke was actually ineligble for that list. Of course Jared Sulivan of OSU and Tu Holloway of Xavier were as well, I am sure they will fix that oversight shortly and make an all-Ohio one. Seriously though, really impressive the company he is being mentioned in. Can't wait to see the ESPN game on the 9th. Stay out of foul trouble big fella!

When CK and JZ84 are seriously considering not renewing, that is a very dark day for Zips football.

I was just watching College GameDay and they used a quote from Ezekiel 20:29 for the LSU-Alabama game. I think it is far more appropriate for our Mr. Marshall. "Then I said to them: what is the high place whereunto you go?" We also need a cool nickname for him. Since he is already a Marshall and patrols the middle - maybe "the Sheriff"? We gave one to Chisholm, we need one for Zeke. Go Zeke!Go Zips!

+1. This is an amazing program. We lost 5 (right?) starters to the pros yet we're still a Top 5-ish team. And incredibly young. We're on top of the American soccer world right now.We lost seven starters. Kept only Barson, Meves, Mattocks and Caldwell. I defy you to find another team that lost that kind of talent that had to be replaced and did as well as the Zips (trick question, no other college soccer team has ever lost that much talent to the pros in one year). We have 16 new players this year. I'm still very pleased (but the important thing is that Caleb is not).

Interesting side note for me. I saw that Real Maryland Monarchs only reported one game and thought maybe they had folded. I went and checked and found they dropped from Professional status. A year ago I agreed to host a couple of their players (one played at Akron for a year) for a couple weeks while they found more permanent housing. Two weeks turned into two months and while they were nice enough guys all it did was put a drain on my budget while adding nothing. Apparently that's how they housed all of their players. When that is part of your business strategy, I can see why you might not stay in business.

Nice writeup on Perry from the article:Perry Kitchen was acquired from the University of Akron on January 13, 2011, after being selected in the first round (third overall) during the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. The 19-year-old proved to be a reliable and versatile player, helping the Black-and-Red either as a right back, center back or defensive midfielder. Kitchen played 31 matches (30 starts) and tallied one goal for United during his rookie campaign, becoming the first rookie in the club’s 16-year history to lead the team in minutes played (2,726) during the 2011 MLS season.

Since the anagram for Sam Cherry is "Rash Mercy" I have my suspicions. Is that you, Coach Rob?

GOOD GRIEF. Snatch defeat from the jaws of victory
MDZip replied to akronzips71's topic in Akron Zips Football
We were down by one and he went for two and the win. Whether you like that decision (or the earlier XP decision) or the call he absolutely went for the win. This is a silly statement. -
I'm glad to see a quote about winning. Maybe I don't read every presser, but I don't remember reading much discussion about winning. I'm perplexed though. He talks about fieldgoals being a turnover or a failure, yet he is down by something like 20 in the fourth last week and kicks a fieldgoal to become down 17. It doesn't make sense to me. It's one thing to tell the fans and players winning is important, but I'd like to think actions would follow. That was apparently a very good spoof by CK.

When we get done with this, we can put signs above the lockerroom doors reading, "Whites Only...and Only If Your Parents Have Money".I'm not interested in turning on the TV and watching LSU vs Alabama with DIII talent. Sorry....I enjoy modernity.Sorry, throwing the bullshit flag on you here. Millions of college students somehow manage to make it through with combinations of loans, work, etc. And believe it or not, a lot of those students are black and they somehow do it too. The percentage who are helped by athletic scholarships is miniscule compared to that number. Throwing the race card in doesn't help your argument, especially if you just want that for your own entertainment.
 -
Here's a radical idea. Eliminate athletic scholarships entirely. Athletics is only tangential to the misson of college anyway. Anyone who still wanted to play and could make the team would be able do so. Yes, I know it takes time but that's a choice you make. It also might keep people out of college who would have no business being there otherwise. The professional leagues can be like baseball and make their own minor league setup and people who want to make sports a career can also elect to do so. There is enough money being made to do that. Div III somehow manages to have fun sporting events without scholarships. Let students choose a school based on its merits and not how fast it can get them to the pros. Its time to end the charade. Plus I'm in a pissy mood tonight.

Tailgating for Bowling Green

Zips win 3-0! Clinches the MAC tournament at UA once again. -
Anyone seen CK and Dr. Z? Man I hope this wasn't some sort of bizarre football "statement". Why would you choose Infocision?
 -
I admire the toughness of Moore but man he has got to learn to hit the deck or he is gonna get killed. That long snap and loss of 27 right before the half hurt.
 -
Discussion on BigSoccer about Caleb's selection. Some seem to think that if he does well at the Olympics, then he's gone. I don't think so. At some point, I think he'll have to but he still seems to be extremely motivated with the Zips right now.

I hope for a top 4 seed but we need to make sure we get a top 8. Then if the 1 team ahead of us slips up and loses one of its 2 home games it would then become an "Akron Region" and we would have home field for the elite 8 contest.Excellent point! There is plenty of history supporting top 8 (if not top 4) teams winning it all. Outside top 8 is much more problematic. Where are our stats people on this?I was curious about this too so I did a little research. The last ten Champs and their initial seeding:2010: Akron #32009: UVA #22008: UMD #22007: Wake Forest #22006: UCSB Unseeded2005: UMD #12004: IU #22003: IU #82002: UCLA #32001: UNC #7So it does appear that a top 8 seed is pretty important. Top four even more so.
