  1. Actually, I considered this as well but thought statisically the best thing to do would be to vote for Ampai and no one else. But perhaps diluting the number of votes makes it harder for other to gain on him. Or perhaps it makes 0 difference either way. Math/stats majors?
  2. And the last winless team in the MAC is (drumroll), the Akron Zips (I am counting today as a loss even if it is not officially over). EMU took out Ball State in overtime today.
  3. Zips in an upset - will lose by less then 17.
  4. Back then Temple was a member of the Big East so we did have one "BCS" team. The rest of that schedule is pretty light though this years team might have had the same record expect they'd beat Youngstown State (yeah, that was for you eguins. )
  5. They were also seeded #4 last year and didn't get out of the second round. I'm guessing this won't be the final bracket layout. Still nice to see us as #1 for the second year, but I really would rather not have Indiana and Virginia in the bracket with us.
  6. ... he hits it! Zips Win! First win in State College in 22 years!
  7. PK! Nanchoff lining up and...
  8. In the 2nd OT ...
  9. We are actually pretty lucky we are not down 3-1.
  10. Any idea what has happened to our NCCA champ? I never see her name mentioned any more, and IIRC she should be a junior this year?
  11. The first soccer RPI came out today. Not unexpectedly, the Zips are number 1. In a bit of a surprise, SMU is #2.
  12. I'm not the only one who thinks so. "For the record, if I had a vote and the voting was done today, I'd give it [the Hermann] to Sarkodie. He's part of the best defense in the country and he contributes offesnsively and is probably the best overall player (and pro prospect) on what might be one of the best college teams of recent memory." Big Soccer
  13. Sorry, he did - "I thought this was our best performance because we didn't make very many mental mistakes, we did give up four big plays for over 100 yards, which is too much."
  14. I'm still not very interested in the FCS, but what if all of the "other five" conferences got together and simply decided to play each other and not the BCS teams. Play only each other (WAC-MAC Saturday anyone?) just to force the BCS teams to play only each other and a token FCS team each year. Wonder if that might wield any clout in accepting the playing field simply will not be level but it gives few non-BCS teams at least a chance to be good in the regular season. Then take your chances in a bowl game.
  15. Actually, that was Zip Watcher, just look in his signature block, all three charter members are still proudly displayed there. I'm not sure Zipmeister knows that people root for things, unless it is a presented opportunity for sarcasm or being a smart-ass.
  16. By the way, my interpretation on this was that BuckZip was simply laughing at the internet translation of the Spanish article. True?
  17. Zips still ranked number #1 in the College Soccer News poll (no real surprise there) and Darren Mattocks was named to the team of the week (I think he had a pretty good argument for player of the week.
  18. Major motivation for NM State Hmmmmm... "Once you score a win, then you can get in" Man, that is a classic. Well at least one set of football players probably enjoyed the weekend. New Mexico State 16 New Mexico 14. Can't wait for the Akron-Ball State pillow fight of the week.
  19. No, I think we'd rather point out that by going to Can't State you did a fine job on the Can't Write part - C-r-u-c-i-f-i-e-d. Consider it a public "servise". Don't worry, both of us will be sitting home around Christmas.
  20. I'm going to start rooting for Ohio State now (they're #1) - just kidding, Just Kidding, JUST KIDDING!
  21. Since Philadelphia is only about 90 minutes from me, I was looking forward to seeing the Zips play at Temple. Not any more. Think I'll go to the Jon Stewart "Rally to Restore Sanity" instead. That should apply equally well to Zips football.
  22. I feel a little bad for Brett but he must have done something to merit this. I'm not sure it's such a bad thing for the team as a whole though. You sort of already know what you have with Brett - good player but wildly inconsistent. With all the new guys we have maybe this is an opportunity for one of them to get some time to step up since we know little about them or maybe it helps Brett realize this is the last chance and he decides to step it up himself. Anyway, maybe not as negative as it would first appear.
  23. Here is the Internet Spanish to English translation. Kind of funny. The meeting between the American University Ohio State University and Akron University was the scene of an unfortunate event for the "fair play" in football. In that game, Konrad Warzycha of Ohio, was an opponent lying on the ground, and in a moment of madness, of which insurance will remember the rest of the year, he put a shoe directly to the head. Akron players reacted and went to "adjust" to Konrad. He was expelled. The most interesting were the words of coach of Ohio, who said that action should be penalized with a yellow but not red.
  24. Yes.....The Townhouse. I'm sure a lot of us older guys frequented that place. That was the hottest bar on the campus back in the early 80s. You used to see a lot of the athletes in there. People would line up down the street to get in that place, even in the middle of winter. You couldn't move in there on a Friday or Saturday night. But, the drinking age was 18 back then too. I remember 25 cent draft beers on one of the weeknights. Made me miss a lot of classes the next morning. Ah..the memories. I lived in a house that was between the Townhouse and their primary parking lot. A lot of people used to pee in our bushes on the way back to their car. The Townhouse and Plasma Alliance shared that building. It was quite the upscale neighborhood.
  25. Here is the direct Web address to go to to vote for Ampai. He is just barely holding off the second place entrant from Stanford. Zips Nation has always come through in a meaningful contest. This would be a nice feather in the cap for Ampai, the Zips, and the University. C'mon help him out.
