  1. Best I can do is ESPN3, looks like it wil be playing there.
  2. I thought you added the naturally part yourself. I was surprised to see it was actually in the article. That's pretty funny.
  3. What the announcer probably said was that they were the only conference outside of the big six to win a game in every NCAA tournament in the last six years. UW-Milwaukee (with Bruce Pearl as coach) in 2005 and 2006, Cleveland St in 2009 and Butler in 2007,2008 and 2010.
  4. "Parks and Recreation" had a line tonight where one of their old town slogans was "Pawnee - the Akron of southwest Indiana".
  5. I assume everyone knows the Egypt match was canceled, but in case not I thought I'd post it.
  6. Peter King (SI) and Gregg Easterbrook (ESPN) have both touched on this topic before. They have opined that the "less-privileged" players have a chip on the shoulder and something to prove while the folks who have had it a little easier and sometimes assume that just talent will get them by get surpassed by the guys who go all out every play. Might explain some of this.
  7. haha They really are interested in the Zips though. For ASN, 5% of my hits last month came from that area of the country (Virginia, DC, Maryland). At first I didn't realize why. Probably most of that was me. I thought you were a physician. I now see that you are a Zip residing in Maryland. Imagine my chagrin. I'm not a doctor, but I play one on this board.

  9. It seems DC United fans have taken a vested interest in the Zips, they also have an article on their site about what would happen if the 2010 Zips played the 2010 United. Funniest comment from the article: Halftime: In the locker room at the half, the president of the University of Akron extends Caleb Porter’s contract another five years, to the year 2068.
  10. Nice find JohnnyZ. Here is the part you have to absolutely love. A soccer "factory" that actually produces real student-athletes. How much better can this get? While the easy conclusion might lead you to believe that Akron is little more than a pro-soccer player factory, the reality seems to be far more nuanced. Akron head coach Caleb Porter is undoubtedly creating professional athletes, but he's doing it in a way that belies the conventional image of what that means. His teams are regularly among the nation's academic leaders. In 2009-10 they posted a team GPA of 3.33, eighth best in the country, and the semester the Zips won the 2010 College Cup they posted a 3.51 team GPA. In Porter's five years at Akron, seven Zips have been named Academic All-America and 16 have been named Academic All-Conference.
  11. I think this is punishment for all the guys who left early. No Spain for you! This will teach them to go pro when they're ready and not hang around for another year. (No tongue in cheek icon).
  12. To be fair, this is more like playing against Ramiro Pena, Brett Gardner and Alfredo Aceves (Yankees bench players) but regardless it's still pretty cool. How Caleb Porter cotinues to pull this stuff off amazes me.
  13. Nice. Thanks for taking the time to take the pic and for posting it.
  14. If you're going to copy stuff from Moullatt, at least take the cr off the front of our name before posting.
  15. Apparently, not everyone was excited over Teal playing for the US. I'm assuming this site originates in Canada.
  16. Don't believe there is any "think" about it. I will be surprised if any MAC team gets a premier matchup.
  17. College Soccer news released their top 150 list also: http://collegesoccernews.com/index_files/Page610.htm Trapp at 5, Yedlin at 12, Gallego at 21, Culbertson at 41 and Chiu at 100. Looks like UNC, Wake and Indiana also have some good classes coming on. And where the heck did Furman come from? 17,18,20,41,98 and 148. Wow.
  18. Wow, could it be yet another #1 ranking for Caleb's recruiting class? Pretty hard to beat 30% of the top ten players in the country. Must be good to be Caleb Porter right now when he walks into a recruits home.
  19. Agree on the positive press side of things, but I'd like for them to also point out this is a respected institution of higher learning, not "Southwest Central Tech" that just by random chance happens to be churning out all of these great soccer players. Part of the reason that happens is the support of a University that has the resources and student body to provide it.
  20. No Bowling Green again and this year we hit the Directional Michigan trifecta. The schedule doesn't look that daunting overall. we ought to be able to pick up a few more wins.
  21. Thought the original formation was for an Akron support group, if so, Porter's Army is way too specific. Love it as a soccer support group name but even then it has a somewhat limited lifespan of usefulness.
  22. While I agree with the Cap'n that we really could use a WR with some height, both Russell and Sconiers played well at times for true FR last year. In fact, as much as I am eager to see what the final 2011 recruit list entails, I am just as curious to know if Richard Hall and Antoine Russell have been reinstated. Does anybody know? What happened to Schrock? He was supposed to be a big time WR recruit.
  23. Its all starting to make sense now. Coach K was LeBrons original coach. This was the old Cavalier offense.
  24. Down by 6 but like Zeke's offensive aggressiveness and D-Rob getting some good minutes.
  25. Good article, but once again "What is it about Akron, and more specifically, Porter, that makes that small school a factory of top-flight soccer talent?". What the heck does the small school comment mean? It means the writer really knows very little about Akron. At the very least, I think he likely meant "less well known" school or something like that. But small school? That makes no sense.
