If you saw the announcement about series with UAB and Troy you may not have to worry about App St on 9/9 next year. While they made no mention of it the game change at App St now appears in 2022 and is no longer listed next year. If true, that sucks I was looking forward to going down there next year. 2017 Sept. 2 at Penn State Sept. 16 at Troy Sept. 23 IOWA STATE 2018 Sept. 1 at Nebraska Sept. 22 at Iowa State 2019 August 31 at Illinois Sept. 7 UAB TBA TROY 2020 Sept. 12 at UAB Sept. 19 at Clemson 2022 Sept. 24 at Appalachian State

Kent landed in the Bottom 10 this week maybe because of those pants Amazingly they are the only MAC team listed although there are a few in-waiting. Wonder if NIU has ever shown up here before?
-
MAC referees who worked the CMU game have been suspended.

Technically you're correct, no Zips fans did but our two Wisconsin visitors got it right (sigh). Ball getting 71 yards against that defense is pretty impressive and despite the ass-whipping I'm actually pretty encouraged about our MAC East chances this year (thank goodness we are not in the West). Even if we start 1-3 which is quite possible. Marshall at their place is going to be tough and after seeing what Tennessee did against VT I think App St is an even tougher matchup. But the MAC East - Zips chances are as good as any.

Natson is going to be fun to watch the rest of the season :-)

You don't win games like this when you drop interceptions and give them new life with a dumb offsides penalty so they get a touchdown instead of a field goal. Grrr

Nio sure strategic management is necessarily the right course for him to be teaching at the moment.

Forgot this was an IPH revenge game (the one against Buffalo last year worked out well) so maybe to football gods give us a little help. I'm really worried about the interior defensive line against the UW O-line. I think Wisconsin 38 Zips 17.

Isn't college football supposed to be about fun? Engaging opposing fan bases is part of that as long as you or they aren't jerks about it. Doesn't mean at all that you are not supporting the Zips. I think people who take things like college football (or any sport) too seriously are the real problem.

I don't really mind the trollers (and occasionally you even get good discussion out of them) but it's usually only for a week and if by some miracle the Zips pull off the upset we'll go visit him over at his board. And he's even using the same name and icon on his boards so props for not trying to hide. Here's one of his posts so we can go visit if it happens And I will give them a solid for a nice troll on Buckzip (sorry man it was funny) over there.

Ok this has only tangentially to do with LeBron but I thought it was interesting. The Plain Dealer made a list of the most famous person from each county in Ohio. Had no idea some of these folks were Ohioans. Summit County's is pretty easy but you folks from Medina and Stark are going to be pretty disappointed. I was born in Wooster and grew up in Hudson and have no chance of ever supplanting either of those two folks.

Is it a good sign that a player could have 90 receiving yards and three touchdowns and not be highlighted as one of the offensive stars or the game?

The Zips have not yet been sent to the elimination pile for the Playoff. Every other MAC East team has. "Congrats, Zips. It's a little early to crown you MAC East champions, but you were the only team in the division not to lose its opener."

Zips not looking sharp in the second part of the first half. Lucky to still be 0-0.

I agree - I think it's a great OOC schedule, it would be hard to do a lot better. This is the kind of OOC schedule the Zips should play. Two home games, tow away, one against an opponent you could make a lot of noise by beating but which also gives a chance to bring in additional revenue and one against a team that is in the same situation against us (and I love that we get VMI first) and two good G5 opponents (would also take more lower level P5 like Iowa State as a home and home like we have and I think a 2-1 against a mid-tier P5 like Syracuse is also acceptable).

well deserved recognition for coach Embick
MDZip replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I saw this article on TDS but it was one of their insider articles but they used Embick as the lead picture so I was pretty sure he was included. Glad they were able to publish the article. Sure is looking more and more like Embick was a shrewd follow on choice. One other coach they mention is Dave Giffard at VCU who was an assistant for the Zips as well. The Porter coaching tree is spreading. -
Especially since on the depth chart no kicker was named as first team, which means no one has stood out yet. Very concerning.

Go Appy St. (until you play us :-).

Wow, Natson transfers in for one year and is elected a captain? Must be one impressive young man.

Big 12 cut down their expansion list - we're keeping NIU :-)

Nice job and really comprehensive. Just one thing - under your Marshall crash site/memorial section (I've been to Huntington to visit and it does give another deeper perspective) you mention that visiting the site adds a new sense of levity to the story. I suspect maybe you were going for gravity or something like that since levity means humor or frivolity you probably want to change that. Other than that nice work.

Elton posted an article that claims only three QB's in the MAC are incumbents, Terrell at WMU, Rush and CMU and Woodson. Even as he mentions both OU and EMU have lost theirs (to injury and suspension) this Hustlebelt article details that pretty much everybody has last years starter back (although a couple has starters from previous years too). Looks to me like there is some significant QB experience in the conference. THOMAS WOODSON / Akron Ht., Wt., Yr.: 6-1, 225, Junior Hometown: Monroeville, Pa. Did you know: Akron held Woodson back from the starting unit in 2015 because of his weight. Once he dropped 30 pounds, along with the ineffective play of others, Woodson returned as Akron's starter and held the job all season. NFL projection: NFLdraftscout.com No. 46 About the Zips: While the defense truly anchors this team, it's really all about the 'O' for coach Terry Bowden, who talks about the run, but almost always looks to pass. With the strong-armed Woodson locked in as the starter and a bevy of quality wide receivers, Akron should be one of the high-scoring offensive units in the MAC. The added plus is, if needed, Woodson has no problem dropping his shoulders into the line for tough yardage.

Sporting News has us playing for the MAC Title
MDZip replied to zipsoutsider's topic in Akron Zips Football
They just had two players arrested and kicked off the team. -
And DeAndre Scott was named as one of their first team CBs.
