Well if one team had to come in with a loss into Tuesday's game glad it was the Bobcats. :-) No last-second miracle this time.

EMI up by 1 with 1:20 to go

I was looking forward to paying a visit to App St as part of the home and home in 2018. When the hell did it get moved to 2022?

Akron (13-3, 3-0 MAC) at Miami (8-8, 1-2 MAC). 3:30 EST Millett Hall Miami. The Zips are the second highest rated MAC team at 91 (behind Ohio at 89) in Kenpom.com and the Redhawks the lowest (by a wide margin 50 spots lower than BGSU as the next lowest) at 282, so the Zips should be able to handle this one but strange things have happened at Millett recently. Maybe the MAC is a little better this year but the Zips should win this to go 4-0 heading into the Ohio showdown. Incidentally the Youngstown (8-9, #284) loss is looking even worse now but the Marshall (11-6, #97 and leading Conference USA) win is looking even better. I always thought the Dr. Z Three for Thursday football quizzes were fun so maybe we should start them for basketball.

Well Brett and Reggie did look an awful lot alike :-)

And that would be the correct answer because I recall Reggie McAdams scoring 31 against CMU and under his GoZips bio it states he "came off the bench to score a career-high 31 points on 10-of-13 shooting (6-of-9 from 3-point range) and grabbed a career-high six boards in just 23 minutes against Central Michigan on Jan. 17 ... his 31-point performance was tied for the 11th-most by a MAC play during the 2014-15 season ... became the first by a Zip in 265 games to score at least 30 points in a game (37, Romeo Travis, Feb. 24, 2007)"

NIU did beat Kent but the Bulls got robbed. The Bobcats miss two three throws with 30 seconds left and the rest called a jump ball on the rebound that it appeared Buffalo controlled. The arrow gave it back to the Bobcats and they won it on a jumper.

Would anyone have guessed Keene and Big Dog would have the same number of points? No matter what that number was
-
Absolutely and I'm glad when that happens. That's why I like it. You can't always measure heart.

I can't say I know for sure but I doubt Darren Rovell had the Zips in mind when he made that observation nor did I. As matter of fact I found it kind of amazing a walk on could have that kind of an impact on a major program. Kudos to him.

If Kwan doesn't score another point he will have raised his scoring average to double digits so that all five starters average double digits. If Big Dog picks up 3 rebounds and Kwan 2 then both will have a double double. Good half for both of the big guys.
-
22-3 to close out the half. Wow :-) And do we give Kwan the "Jimmy Conyers breakout senior year award" yet? His game has improved so much. He still has his outside game which is even better but he's doing really well inside now too.
-
And as was pointed out by Darren Rovell - a guy who walked on to the team catches the ball to win the title against a team with more 5-star recruits than anyone else.

Buffalo mens soccer coach leaves for another program
MDZip replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Yeah I don't get the quote about the level playing field. All I can think is that he felt Buffalo didn't supply the support he was expecting. I can't imagine it was anything specific about the Zips because I can't see what advantage they could have other than Buffalo not providing support. It's not like this is a multi-million dollar enterprise anywhere in college soccer. -
I love this idea. The MAC is supposed to be a progressive conference with its Tuesday and Wednesday night games this could make the season even more compelling and give the networks even better (and more competitive) games to show later in the season. Plus with the shorter travel distances the MAC would be the ideal conference to try this out with. C'mon Dr. Steinbrecher make this happen. :-) Lets show them the MAC is a forward thinking (and smart) conference. WMU had the student athlete of the year. ;-)

Always loved that video thank for sharing it. It should be a staple at the JAR. Too bad everyone in the MAC West wasn't included but at least it got the one Ohio school. Too bad the creator was never fully credited - great job.

You would likely be referring to Matt Stainbrook who transferred to Xavier (and did OK there). My nephew went to Xavier and said he seemed like an OK guy.

The full list of the 15 finalists against whom Taylor will compete. I think Tomlinson is a shoe-in but I'm encouraged that I don't see any others who would be an absolute favorite over Taylor. LaDainian Tomlinson Jason Taylor Brian Dawkins Morten Andersen Tony Boselli Isaac Bruce Don Coryell Terrell Davis Alan Faneca Joe Jacoby Ty Law John Lynch Kevin Mawae Terrell Owens Kurt Warner

2017 Commit: RB/LB Marquise Bridges
MDZip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Even more off the original topic but pretty amazing that in a fairly small radius around Akron there are three high schools (and I'm sure more that I can't think of right now) that produced NFL HOFers (Stow - Csonka, Hudson - Dante Lavelli, Crestwood - Jack Lambert).- 35 replies

Taking the topic completely off the rails, I saw Jay Leno (funniest stand-up I've ever seen, Tonight Show is nothing like his stage show) at the Akron Civic Theater in 1982. We thought the $8 seats were a little pricy so we bought $6 seats further back. Couldn't have been more than 200 people at the show so he moved everyone up close to the stage so we sat in the second row. Maybe its just an Akron thing people don't like to go to things.

Interesting story in the PD about Luke Fickell wanting to become a head coach again. This statement in the story is why I included it on a Zips board. A grad assistant at Ohio State in 1999 after playing defensive line for the Buckeyes from 1992 to 1996, Fickell's first full-time job was at Akron in 2000 and 2001 as defensive line coach. He remembers assistants who worked there without moving their families. He wondered then how the players could believe in coaches that acted like they didn't want to be there.
