  1. Maybe this is why - they don't have any money left at the Stroh Center.
  2. He's hurt but nothing says he's out for the season yet
  3. 33-7 run now.
  4. And they really put the A-team broadcasters on this one. :-) Not worried if Williams misses the game - he's a terrific player but the Zips have won two games recently where he didn't even score. Plenty of depth
  5. And frankly its only a handful of the P5 schools that stay in the black as well. And even when its disguised fairly well everyone knows that's its the students who end up picking up the tab for all of the debt. My daughter attends the University of Maryland and I just paid her tuition bill, even with UMD getting more money from the Big Ten I know part of her cost is certainly subsidizing athletics. Would love to know how much of it it is (and she has attended exactly one athletic event while she has been there - the Akron soccer game I went to with her last fall). I heard Chris Christie speak (not a political endorsement just happened to hear him on the radio) and he has a kid a Notre Dame and one at Princeton. He got a letter from Notre Dame which proudly said tuition was only going to up 4% this year (the lowest increase in 40 YEARS) and he said the bill from Princeton had only three lines - tuition, room and board and fees. He said if you got a bill at a restaurant and it just said food you'd probably ask the waitress to break it down into the actual costs. I saw a promo on a Big-12 basketball game and they were proudly trumpeting that student athletes had a higher graduation rate and came out of school with far less debt than the general student population. Gee, could that have anything to do with available tutors, someone watching over your academics (and a high number of majors in sports management and exercise science) and something called a scholarship all because you're good at bouncing a ball or the like? So you have a bunch of students subsidizing other students and you wonder why there's an undercurrent of anger about student debt (though I have less sympathy for those who feel they must attend a private school for art history and pile up a mountain of debt doing so - you have to take some of the responsibility).I love college sports but it terrifies me what it is turning into. Could be a student (or parent) revolt on the horizon. Damn it when did I turn into the cranky old man? Think I'll just become a bitter member of the venomous minority.
  6. Kind of funny to revisit the impressions of the league just a few weeks ago. Elton Alexander took a stab at what he thought the MAC hierarchy was. We are playing what was at the time thought to be the best team in the league. Akron (#6), Buffalo (8) and CMU (11) at ranked at the bottom. The Zips were also in this position a couple years ago and tanked to a 9-7 record. Need to keep that foot on the gas. Nothing is guaranteed but a win against BGSU is about as close as it gets. Zips hit less than the 11 threes average but dominate in the paint, 73-65.
  7. All but Evansville currently seeded 12th or lower in the current Bracketology? Figured Evansville was thrown in as a red herring.
  8. In yet another attempt to start a spring football league as reported by Hustlebelt, Major League Football is intending to begin play this year (Akron being one of the cities with a rumor of getting a team) and have a contract with the American Sports Network to show their games so it looks like there is a chance of this being real. Anyway they held their draft and there were several former Zips picked including Jawon Chisholm, Cedric Brittnum and Zach D'Orazio.
  9. Mine didn't change but I want my fees waived too
  10. Can skhorbotly be far behind? :-) Actually it looks like he is - appears as though a number of user names got reset back to their original one.
  11. Good win for the Zips but I wish they'd save the high percentage three shots for tougher teams. :-)

  13. That's a pretty amazing story - let's see Reitz, Gates, Rollins, maybe the NFL should just start scouting MAC basketball teams.
  14. Ball game - weren't going to go undefeated in the league anyway.
  15. Don't like seeing Jake holding his chest. :-(
  16. Reggie McAdams apparently hates maroon and gold. 11 first half points.
  17. The one voter who likes us is John Feinstein of National Public Radio in DC. C'mon Zips make the guy look prescient.
  18. Hey skip, Tava played for WMU. And they certainly do not look like a title contender any longer. We'll see tomorrow.
  19. We certainly have Linda Ronstadt guard defense. You know, Blue Bayou
  20. So looking back at the end of the year Oklahoma will play 13 or 14 games and of those opponents all but three qualified for a bowl game (and the one they lost to didn't - but could have - Texas at 5-7). Rooting for Oklahoma to win the whole thing.
  21. MAC is 3-3 in bowl games. All up to CMU to decide if it's a winning or losing year. :-)
  22. BGSU looks terrible. MAC Champs being embarrassed by the fourth place Sunbelt team. Time to end their stranglehold on the East next year!
  23. No kidding - Akron just broke up a Stanford push and the announcer let out a disappointed Oh.
  24. Fenlason definitely Akrons MOTM so far.
