The best thing we have right now is soccer and our dieing love for Zips sports, we have to remain classy or else we're no different than the Suckeye lovers. IDIOT.

I think there has to be some mega-athletic HS QB that BCS schools are slotting to be a safety or WR...but who really wants to be a college QB. These kinds of kids have a great chance to be successful in the MAC. If we choose a JUCO, so be it. But I would also not rule out an "athlete" at the position. It could make the Zips competitive just as quickly, and not just for 1 or 2 seasons. If Ianello can't get a couple impact WR's for 2011, we will need a QB that can make plays on his own. Obviously, Nicely has a lot better chance for success if we get some real WR's too. WR's gotta be the primary focus for recruiting right now. I agree that we need more WR, but I can't think of any position that we are strong at. The d-line is a huge concern for me. Yes, we have depth today, but most of them are juniors. We have no separation in elegibility. In 2 years we will be starting an all freshman DL or close to it. Bowers leaving is bad. He looked like a future stud. Hopefully Alexander returns to form next year. We may already have the QB in Potts and D'Orazio(sp) that you are talking about. Thin at LB, thin at safety, thin at OL and DL. I don't care how good of a recruiter coach I supposedly is. If the team keeps playing like this, nobody will want to come here. To recruit you have to win. To win you have to have good recruits. It's the chicken and the egg logic.
-
I don't see any lack of effort on any player's part. I see lack of depth, ability, scheme, results etc. But no lack of effort. Everyone is playing like they want to win. To be honest I dont see that too much either, but there are times when it seems like we dont hustle down on coverage for punts or kickoffs though. Maybe it's just me. Then why don't you start hustling and leave the rest of the team alone?

Then it was Dr Feelgoods IIRC. I usually went to the Sun or Splash. They were even bigger dumps. -
Infocision Stadium, opened 2009: First Sell Out: Sept 12, 2009 (first game) 27,881 Dix Stadium, opened in 1969: "Although many crowds have come close, Dix Stadium has never officially been sold out for a Can't State game. The largest Can't State football crowd ever at Dix Stadium was 27,363 on November 10, 1973 for a game versus Miami University.[2] The stadium was, however, sold out in August 1980 for a scrimmage between the Cleveland Browns and the Buffalo Bills and nearly sold out for a November 28, 1998 high school playoff game between Cleveland St. Ignatius and Canton McKinley." owned Owned is an understatement in this situation.

In the past I was always kind of anti-JUCO, but with this team, I am tired of waiting. We need an influx of talent ASAP to actually be able to get other talent to come here.
-
The really sad part is that as bad as CK's post was, everything in it is true. This is an absolutely horrible team that is horribly coached. Bad talent and bad coaching makes for an absolutely bad team.

Zips make SI's Extra Mustard (Columbus State Red Card)
Buckzip replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
By the way, my interpretation on this was that BuckZip was simply laughing at the internet translation of the Spanish article. True? It was. The person that felt the need to attack me and call ALL OSU fans idiots missed that. My wife and I often laugh at the translations that don't have the same word we are looking for. It's sort of one of my goofy things. The first laughing emot I did was about the thread though. -

if you are talking for the season, you are probably right because soccer has more games. if you are talking average per game, that won't happen. However, point still made and taken. -
Zips make SI's Extra Mustard (Columbus State Red Card)
Buckzip replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
You are right, but i think applying the term "front-runner" to fans, like myself, who are abandoning this year's football season is a bit hasty. Im a huge zips fan and even I am having a hard time justifying taking off work on saturdays to go to the games. As a college student, money is a big deal, but I was willing to take those days off to go to the game. Now... it is making more sense to work instead of going to the game. Ill still follow the zips and see how things go, but Im not going to the games this year. Just isn't worth it. And yes, I will be at a lot of soccer games this year, partially because they are a proven perennial winner, but also because I love the atmosphere and energy at the games, something I desperately wish we had with football. Something to consider: If OSU were to hit hard times and be sub-.500 at this point in the season, how would things look then? Would the stadium still sell out? Would all those "fans" still be fans? What if they had a stretch of 3 years that were sub-par? Something to think about since I am certain the same reasons would come up for those fans there as they are here. Oh... to keep this post relevant, it still baffles me how OSU's soccer coach could be so incredible ignorant. Glad to see its getting some big exposure not because it was OSU, but because it was a fully-warranted red card. That type of unsportsmanlike conduct should be met with suspension. I 100% agree about the coach and suspension. What was really amazing is that a poster on another board said the guy was already in motion and couldn't stop. LOL.. As for the coach, I tried to figure out if it was coach speak or if he is just a moron. I decided on moron. If your team does something stupid admit it. It makes you look much more credible. OSU had some lean years during the Cooper years and they still sold out every game of 100K. Now, if they had 10 straight losing years, I can't answer that. I doubt it would matter though. Just as you mentioned the soccer game atmosphere, the atmosphere of 100k is amazing too. I was watching ESPiN on Saturday before an SEC game. One of the coaches mentioned that you pick a side before you are 4 years old. I think that holds some merit here too. I think it does in every situation. I have been in Georgia for over 4 years now, and I still could care less about the Atlanta teams even though they are 30 minutes away. I am diehard Cavs, Browns and Indians. Nothing will ever change that. I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't think it's possible to turn off an allegiance to a team. Before I moved I went to 2-3 Zip games a year, every year since I was small and Dad took me to the Acme-Zip game. I would still be going if I lived there. Good or bad, they are my team and my alma mater. I am dying to see a game at the Info. -

I hope that you understand that your dual allegiances puts you in a precarious position regarding many zips fans here. It may be wise in situations such as these not to say anything, including posting emoticons. Unless "poking the fire" is something you like to do, then by all means keep on poking. I just think a lot of ill will would be avoided that way. So, you're saying buckzip can't post on certain threads? What bs! Who cares if he wants to post an emoticon. Sensitive are we? Hate to break it to ya, but buckzip, along with a few others, keeps this forum going with good dialogue and contributions. Where you, on the other hand, confuse being a passionate fan with an ignorant moron. The whole situation is funny, the OSU player blew his fuse against an instate rival. And because of the editing done by one of our own ZNO members it has become a popular video and picked up steam across the US and beyond. I would like to think that if it weren’t for cigar guy, the video would have gone even further. What I am most upset about is that we have now had 3 scares this season where a team got physical with us and we had trouble responding. We need to figure this out pronto before tourney time! Thank you , thank you, thank you. I posted that video on "another board" with the title of look at this dirty play. I received about 25 responses back. With the exception of 2, everyone agreed it was dirty. The 2 that disagreed were called out. What these haters don't realize is that not everyone thinks like they do. When you call another school by the wrong name or some other supposedly funny, at least in your mind, crap, you make yourself look very small. The excpetion to this is your rival. Can't is fine. Can't is the UA rival. Contrary to what many believe here, the school in our states capitol is not our rival. Just because we play them doesn't make them a rival. A rivalry has to be 2 ways. Certain UA fans hate them, but most of them have nothing but respect for UA. When UA played for the NC in soccer last year, there were multiple threads before during and after the game cheering on UA. When UA played in the MCB a few years back there were threads cheering on UA. There was a game thread for crying out loud. I know I will get bashed for this, as is the norm. But when people get over their small mindedness and hatred they will be happier people. Like I have said many times. I am just as proud of my UA degree as I am my other degree. I don't judge my school because of their sports teams. These people that feel the urge to constantly attack don't realize how they make UA fans look. As for fans, every fan base has their share of morons. UA has their share, the team in the capitol has their share. The bigger your fan base, the more idiots you will have. Believe me, there are a lot of idiots in Columbus. -

Most notice when I do respond, but obviously don't notice when I don't. I do find this stuff amusing. Especially some of the hypocricy of certain Zips fans. On one thread they are saying they won't go to any more football games because the team sucks and it's not worth it and they understand why others won't go either. On another thread they are calling others front runners for cheering on another team. Of course some of these people are now following Zips soccer when they didn't start until the team started receiving national recognition. Like I said, I find that amusing. -

I would love to see those questions asked. I think we all know they never will be though. -
Gotta get rid of Title IX first....but i say Akron offers Larry Kehres at Mt Union a ridiculous amount of money to come here. I'm talking mega millions, pay the man what he wants. You can't go wrong with a proven winner. in case anyone hasn't picked up on it. LARRY KEHRES IS GOING NO WHERE!!!! bigger schools than us have been offering this guy for years, and he stays where he's at. talking about Kehres is like talking about Bain or big foot. as far as the game goes. you know you are in trouble when your QB scores more for the other team, than he does for your own. Akron has one advantage over all of those big schools....we are a short commute. The guy doesn't have to uproot his family and leave the area. I dont care how loyal a guy is, anyone can be bought. We just gotta find what his price is. Not going to happen.

Wow dude no need to get all defensive. I am just really enjoying this thread. It's entertainment to me. That's what I thought the internet was for. You make all Zips fans look bad with your personal attacks. Seeing that I am a Zip grad and fan, that is pretty offensive to me when other Akron fans act like that. -
Aren't D'Orazio(sp) and Potts both supposed to be athletic dual threat QB's?
-
Obviosly I'm speculating. If I knew for sure, I would have said. Dude left because.. No need to apologize. I'm just messing. I don't take anything on the interzweb seriously. I always have fun. That's why I go to the smack board once in a while. Ever since AlGore invented this thing I have had fun with it.

It would be nice, but some people just feel the urge to attack others over semantics and be complete douchebags about it.

Learn some reading comprehension.....There is a difference between saying "obviously" and he did.... Next...

I've always been envious of people with the special power of being able to read other people's minds. I've watched hundreds of coaches being interviewed over the last half century, and I haven't been able to read the mind of a single one to the point of being confident that they are "comfortable" with losing. Extraordinary! Two mind readers in a single thread! Over the last half century I've seen many players transfer out of winning programs, so I'd have never guessed that one transferring out of a losing program "obviously" did it because he felt the program is a mess. Now that I know that there are so many forum members on ZN.O with the ability to read other people's minds, I'm going to be extra careful about what I'm thinking. So sarcastic one, how many athletes have you seen transfer out after 4 games into their true freshman season when they aren't redshirting? I am not expecting an answer or at least not an honest one. Read my mind. About what I expected.

Transferring? When two senior RBs will be leaving us at the end of this year? Does anyone know more about this? Transferring after 4 games from the coach that signed you is a really bad thing. He obviously feels this program is a mess. At least we have Alexander coming back next year...Hopefully.
