Just because someone is in a BCS conference doesn't mean anything. The Big East and ACC are both BCS conferences. They have some pretty crappy teams in those conferences. Again, I agree with not scheduling the tradionally top teams in those conferences, but the bottom feeders we should play every year.

I think the factor that I highlighted above is the most valid point in not playing too many BCS teams. But.... It's not like we played some Floridas or Alabamas in the last few weeks. With the exception of maybe Kentucky, all 3 of those teams were beatable. But even Kentucky got destroyed the week after playing us. Syracuse got destroyed the following week also, by a very average Washington team, and should have been VERY beatable for us at home. And Indiana? I don't see them as much more than a good MAC team. I still think the Gardner-Webb loss hurt us the most. But even with that loss, if we could have pulled off at least one win against one of the BCS teams, I think the people in the community who pay attention to college football would have possibly still stuck with us. Right now, I might feel more distant from the top of our own 1-A division than I think I've felt at any time in our 20+ years in this division. I agree. We lost to Kentucky and Indiana. 2 Middle to lower teams in their conferences. I don't want to schedule Florida, Alabama, USC, OSU, Wisci, but the lower portions of those conferences certainly help. I think playing better competititon helps make the team better prepared for the MAC. Our goal is to win the MAC. We aren't going to win a NC and we aren't Boise. I feel we should get as much work against better competition as possible. I doubt anyone would be questioning scheduling these guys if we could pull off a win. Toledo, Miami, N. Illinois have all done it.

Why bother? Nicely can't hit a barn if it's more than 20 yards away.
-
Our seconday is absolutely terrible. Not only are IU receivers getting open, but they are open by 10 yards. Our offense doesn't look bad. If Nicely could complete passes to open receivers we may have a shot at some real scoring offense. Sadly he can't do that.
-
Saying your entire team sucks and you don't know if you will ever win a game is calling your team out. Was it Bobby Knight that did that? I can't remember who it was.
-
Certainly. That's not calling out his players. Calling out your players is actually naming names or at least naming positions. "Nicely needs to complete those passes to open receivers", "Waller needs to stop missing tackles" "our receivers need to catch the ball", "our linebackers need to tackle", etc. He didn't call out anyone really. I agree, and I am not sure why some people here bring up the "well..you might hurt their confidence" excuse. This is football. It's a tough game that needs tough people in order to succeed. For instance, in this article a far more experienced coach like Solich directly called out his team's QB play, after his two QBs completed half of their passes against Ohio State's defense. A little harsh considering the opponent? Maybe so. But, I don't think we'll get better unless we hold our players to much higher standards, and I sure hope we aren't talking to our players as softly as we appear to communicate our problems to the media. Again, I don't consider that harsh either. It doesn't matter who the opponent is. I think it's good that a coach criticizes even against a BCS team. I don't want a coach saying hey we gave up 600 yards of offense, but because it was Florida it's ok. I get your point though.

14 carries for 71 yards vs Louisburg College What't ironic about all this is that a UA fan was convinced someone wasn't on a team because he wasn't on their roster....LOL

Zips "LEGENDS OF THE PRACTICE FIELD" All-Time Team

There were 3 Glenville guys in 1 year and none of them made it to their senior year. -
I think we beat GW with Manning... Remember, I said "I think".

I have been awaiting a certain player-to-be-listed from you all day long. Don't let me down! James Battle Geof Beuchesne Bret Hrivnak Jarvis Givens. I don't know who you mean. I'm very disappointed in you. Click here if you are a quitter. What would of made you think that? Was I enamored with him or something? I don't recall. I was happy we got him but I wasn't that concerned with him. Now, if you would have said kevin Garner that would be different. Kevin Garner, Terricko Marshall, Antwon Hight, Marlon Terry.... I think we have our entire D-line on one of JD's "big time recruits" classes alone! Antwon Hight, I forgot him. He was one of the top 5 DT in the country and everyone was so excited when he commited to UA, but he didn't even graduate high school.. -

Dude, it's the whole scene that is funny. There is a guy in a cat suit clocking a guy with a big foam nut on his head while a bunch of guys are praying behind them. Before they get to that, the team storms out of the lockerroom, the band is playing, cheerleaders lead the team onto the field and 101,000 people with nothing better to do on a Saturday afternoon than to go watch a BCS team destroy a MAC school rise to their feet to cheer on their team......and then WHAM, an internet classic is created. Don't just watch the Buckeye and Cat, watch everything around them and it is even more funny. That is completely the way I looked at it too. You have to look at the entire picture. I was waiting for one of the players to jump on the pile and really create some entertainment.

The first name I thought if was Nerim Jumbalay(sp) but that's basketball. Marcus Sanders beats out Morgan at RB. IMO Dwayne LeFall was supposed to be the next Jason Taylor. Doug Sumner a LB from Cincy was supposed to be a stud. John Clark can go in the would have been a stud if he didn't sell crack side. -
It's wrong. But I still can't stop laughing. I think that is funny as hell.

I agree. That was a great hit.

I saw Miami and BG both play last weekend. Both have better QBs. BTW everyone, Miami played great against a bigger and faster CSU team. They made plays, they caught passes and generally executed a good game plan. I could write the same thing about BG against Marshall. Both had big and early leads like we could have had...like we had against GW until we choked it away. Both of these teams played non-bcs D-1A schools and won. They have no different physical abilities than the Zips....same size, same speed, our QB actually has a stronger arm than either. The only difference is they make plays. Both games were entertaining to watch because both teams were relatively equally matched and the best team that day won. My God, why are we playing three BCS teams in the same year. We are just stupid. We should be playing teams like CSU, Marshall, Tulsa, ECU, New Mexico, etc. Are those better QB's true Sophs?

Rogers didn't look hurt at all on that nice run against UK.
-
I agree to a point, but wouldn't it be nice to see what MR can do though?
-
I agree with that. I really thought Nicely would be a better QB so far this season, but he hasn't shown much. I know we can't really compare Nicely and Rodger's performances from last week, but Rodgers seemed to have much better accuracy and had more touch, in my opinion. It would also be very helpful to have a more mobile QB back there to provide another threat. It's a tough call on what to do because making Rodgers the starter could really hurt Nicely's confidence, which could hurt Akron in the long run, but Rodgers may very well be the better option. I think Ianello should give Rodgers some time early in the game this weekend and see how he does. We are 0-3. What do we have to lose by giving MR a chance? I definitely think Rodgers should get a chance. The only fear that I have is that Nicely will struggle in the future if he believes that Ianello will pull him right away if he doesn't perform well. You may be right, but seeing that he was given the position by default, it doesn't really matter.

Also switched Hall, a highly touted DE to TE and he doesn't get the ball. Really odd.
-
Bowers looked pretty good. Much quicker to the hole than AA.
