  1. Why go for any of them when we can go for a friend of the AD?
  2. Perhaps there weren't many in the UA category. They were either too good, and BCS caliber, or they were lower level than UA. The thing that is really bothersome is the thought process of some local kids. I read a lot of recruiting articles and the sad thing is that the majority of local kids don't even consider UA unless it is their best offer. There is a real stud DE at an Akron school that is being recruited by every major program. He stated the school he is looking at is a school that every kid dreams and wants to go to. I won't mention the school, because I don't need to go there. He doesn't even mention UA and he is from Akron. Another student from Cleveland Glenville mentions Akron and he says he will check it out because he doesn't know anything about Akron. The kid plays less than an hour from our stadium and he knows nothing about Akron. That is ridiculous. I would doubt that most of the kids in Akron, let alone from other parts of the state, are aware of the facilities UA has. Maybe if they played a high school game, but that's probably the only way. The University has to find a way to get the word out that UA has top notch facilities. As a poster from another site stated one time, Akron is a sleeping giant. We are in the hotbed of college football, yet we are an unknown. The new coaching staff needs to begin an aggressive campaign to recruit kids from NE Ohio. I know Brookhart had a majority of his recruits from our state and western PA, but a lot of them were 4th-tier recruits who saw Akron as a back-up option to BCS and even other MAC schools. If we could even get a third of the FBS-calibre kids in Summit County to stay here, we would be tops in the MAC. You are probably right. Maybe Akron needs to have more camps for local kids only or guest speakers that will lure the kids to at least get on campus. I find it amazing that Akron can't get at least a few studs from the area every year.
  3. Good post. This is the best part. ND just isn't bad, they are terrible and void of any talent. Navy has better talent....NAVY. I watched Wake almost beat Navy this season and Wake is terrible. Getting back to a question I asked earlier. What evidence is there that LF is even interested in the program beyond the fact that he has a connection to UofA through his professional career? I'm sure he would like to see the Zips do well because he coached at UofA, but is there any REAL evidence he showed a level of interest beyond just a passing glance? Someone please provide that evidence. None. Not only that he has no HC experience. There is no reason to believe he would be a good HC.
  4. Most intelligent post on this thread. Couldn't have said it better myself. If UA was simply INTENT on not hiring a HC with previous experience, how is a young, energetic, upbeat, former PLAYER and longtime assistant coach (for multiple positions) at a national championship school NOT a better fit than a recrooooter from who-knows-where? Yep
  5. Where in the hell did I say a thing about OSU? Answer the question. Where? Where did I say how great they are? Where? Nowhere, that's where. Yeah, OSU fans think their team is the greatest..ROFLMAO. You would change your mind if you ever visited an OSU baord. But you would rather spout off your ignorance rather than know any facts, so you would never do that. Wow, showing a picture of an upset OSU player. Maybe you think they should just be ok with losing and just be totally apathetic towards it like Akron players seem to be. I guess other teams are partying after they lose. Some of you are just so jealous and butthurt that you have to attack them in every thread that has nothing to do with them. Akron plays a cupcake schedule. That has nothing to do with OSU playing a cupcake schedule or if OSU is over rated flat out sucks, or loses every game. Wow, ESPin said something. ROFLMAO. Mark May, the biggest douchebag in all of broadcasting. Really, Did someone on the UA board actually call others fair weather? The board that has an entire thread of posters saying they won't waste their money on UA. You are completely clueless and I really hope you aren't a UA grad or alum. You certainly wouldn't make me proud to know we went to the same school. Well guess what son, I came home for a weekend and actually went to an Akron game that 1 weekend out of the year I was home. I still give money to my school every year. Do you? I doubt it. You just come on here and attack that which you are jealous and butthurt over. You are the fat girl on the beach that hates the trim/fit girl. You don't care that you may be smarter, have a better life or have better friends than she does. You just hate her because she is better looking. And all the denying that in the world doesn't change a thing. You are right. They are always over rated. 5-3 in BCS games, top 10 year in and year out. The biggest game of the season for nearly every team they play. Bullseye on their back every week. Won the Rose Bowl last year over the Oregon team that was supposed to smack them, bal, bla, bla. Oops, there I go defending them. YOUR ENTIRE POST IS JUST ONE BIG FAIL AND SHOWS HOW SMALL, JEALOUS AND BUTTHURT YOU ARE. Carry on.

  7. you mean the "cupcake teams" that OSU killed and we in turn got killed by? We essentially play OSU's cupcake schedule...difference is it's 9 out of our 12 games each year and not 4 or 5. Actually it's 12 out of our 12 games. Every single team Akron plays would be a cupcake to a top 20 team. Certain irrational fans don't see that. Tell that to Kentucky, who knocked off the #10 team in the country and nearly knocked off Auburn in the last few weeks. Or, Syracuse, NIU and Temple, who are all now in the Top-50 in RPI. Yes, many teams we play would be cupcakes to a Top 20 team, but to put every team we play into that category is just a huge exaggeration. Kentucky is the only one that even makes sense there. And even they got beat up quite a bit. Every team can play a good game or 2, but an entire season tells the story. Syracuse, NIU and Temple would be smashed by most of the top 20. The only chance they would have is if the other team was on a down week. Which does happen. Upsets happen. Guess WVU must have had a down week... Every team does.

  10. What makes anyone think Fickell would make a good HC? He is co-defensive coordinator. He isn't even the d-coordinator. He has never been a HC either. He was on the Akron staff a while back, but he has proven nothing. We need to get an experienced HC. Someone that has been a consistent winner. There are guys like that available at the lower levels.
  11. Although I agree with UA being the worst, having Texas in there makes this stupid. Yes Texas is 4-3, which is bad for them. But they would still beat half of the top 20. This is just jab at them for having a down year. Im not sure how well versed you are in the "Bottom 10", but the #5 spot is reserved for a big-name team that had a bad loss the previous weekend or two. Never mind.

  13. I'm more right though.
  14. Congratulations on summarizing the article in this older thread. http://zipsnation.org/forums//index.php?sh...c=20148&hl= as Frank Drebin said in Police Academy "Nothing to see here." Police Squad. The Naked Gun.... Geez you guys suck in your movie references.
  15. For the umpteenth time, they are a competitor of the Zips. Oh yeah, I forgot. LOL
  16. Obsession is a bad thing. But if it makes you feel better about yourself, so be it. Maybe you should check SOS at the end of the year. I doubt you will post it then. Do you think they will rise into the top 70? I can't predict the future.
  17. He's still a punk and should just STFU.
  18. Is it stuck on the end of your nose?
  19. Well said CK.
  20. Plenty of thoughts on that subject before iCoach was announced, just use the search button. Nov 9, 2009 Coaching Thread Nov 16, 2009 Coaching Thread I love reading through these old threads. Everybody knows some credible source who told them this and that. You beat me to it. I was about to do the same thing. Yeah, none of us are coaches or AD's. I think we could have done a better job though. As an AD, I certainly wouldn't have hired a recruiting coordinator from a losing program whose HC was just fired. As the coach, I certainly couldn't do worse than losing every game and getting destroyed doing it. Wow, how exactly are you related to TW or icoach? I never said I was related and I couldn't do a better job. Next time there is an open coaching position at UA, go try to get that job! I'd love to see them laugh right to your face... I have no desire to be a football coach. Why would I apply for it? Still, I know I couldn't do a worse job. Is it possible to be worse than winless? I see you are extremely butt hurt here and are trying to defend your friend, relative or whatever he is to you, but 0-7 and not even being competitive doing it speaks for itself.

  22. Do you know something here that you would like to share?
  23. Source. I heard kittens
  24. Completely disagree with the notion of giving up DI football. Akron has great facilities, a new stadium and is in a hotbed of football. Ohio is a football state. There is a lot of talent here. If UA would stop going after position coaches from other schools and actually get a coach that had HC experience at a lower level and was a winner, I think things could turn around. Last 3 coaches-Owens OL coach, Brookhart WR coach, and now Ianello, don't know what the hell he coached. There are a lot of consistent winners in DIAA, or whatever it's called now. We need to get one of these guys here. Enough with the 1st time HC BS.
  25. There were more positives today. The Earth didn't blow up. An asteroid didn't land in Akron. Godzilla didn't attack. Come on now, there were lots of positives today.
