No, Charlie has started enough and people have seen his act and are not impressed. His experience is important, not his ability at this point. The circumstance in his starting this week lead to a bad outcome. Charlie has been the scout team QB all season so he has not taken snaps in the offense since pre-season. He only has a few days of preparation with the starting unit. Things like timing are difficult to develop with only a few days preparation. The Raiders coaching staff is not good enough to put a game plan together that will give Charlie much of a chance either. I don't care who the QB would be, this is a terrible situation to throw a qb. Charlie would be better off if he was the #2 somewhere because the #2 takes snaps in preparation for the other upcoming team.I mentioned before that everything the Great GP1 knows about WWII and German culture comes from watching Hogan's Heroes. Remember they had the hollowed out tree stump next to the woods they crawled in and out of the tunnel from (why they wouldn't have dug the tunnel an extra 20 feet into the woods is the questions everyone should have asked, but anyhow...). The gang always had to wait for the German spotlight to pass by the tree stump before climbing out of the stump and running into the woods. The key was to stay in the stump so nobody saw you and then run out after the spotlight passed. Charlie is about to climb out of the stump with the German spotlight directly on it. Unless Sergent Schultz (isn't it funny he was the highest ranking NCO at the camp?) is operating the spotlight, Charlie is in trouble. I don't think the Broncos have any Sergent Schultz-type guys on their team.LOL. What a great analogy. I actually used to think the same thing about HH.Of course I always wondered why the Robinsons didn't just leave Dr. Smith on a planet, and I wondered why the Professor couldn't find something to fix the hole in the SS Minnow too.

tOSU has a good defense when they are playing substandard offenses in the Big Ten...with the exception of Purdue....and the fifth place PAC 10 team USC. A lot of teams would be good against the Big Ten and the three MAC teams they play a year. Michael Jordan would have gotten a lot of dunks against teams of dwarfs. Earl Boykins would probably do the same. It has more to do with the dwarfs than the players.I would be hesitant to use national statistics to compare one team against another. Especially when that team is a second tier team in a second tier conference.I always thought tOSU fans were taking all of Tressel's unit they could handle....and glad to do so.As usual wrong..But just have at it with your bitterness. This thread is about coaches for Akron. If you want to use this thread to show your hatred or jealousy go for it. I won't participate in your childish game.

I'm not for, or opposed to hiring ND staff. For one, you go with what you know, EVERY coach does it. Coach Ianello knows what kind of coach he has in John Latina. He was a successful play caller at Ole Miss, so why couldn't he be at Akron? Plus he's from Western PA. Both Camp and Latina were assistant coaches on their previous staff. Just because you don't succeed at one place, doesn't mean you can't succeed at another. It's up to coach Ianello to find the right "mix" and put people at the right positions to be successful. I'm am most interested who is going to be our DC. I'm DYING to know. I don't have time right now, but somebody should research defensive guys that were associated with coach Ianello and put a list together. Here is the other point......Coach Weis was in charge at Notre Dame, not these guys. The people Ianello is bringing in have years of proven success at the HIGHEST level (SEC, PAC 10, Big 10, etc...). These guys arent automatically a bad hire because of the lack of success at Notre Dame under Charlie Weis. I mean...Urban Meyer was an assistant under Bob Davie at Notre Dame. Davie failed and Urban Meyer is one of the 3 hottest commodities in college football. Please, don't be reasonable and use facts.... I totally agree and would add that people need to stop with the "ND didn't do well" thing. If being from a school that didn't do well was an automatic DQ then Meyer, Saban, and Pinkel all wouldn't have jobs. I would be interested to see who ends up as DC though.Sorry, but I disagree. I agree that you can't look at individual coaching positions as part of how good the total team was, but you can look at how their responsibility is. ND had a bad o-line. Why would I want their o-line coach? They had a bad defense, why would I want their DC?I will use Ohio State as an example. I know I will be bashed, but it proves my point. I would take Fickell, Hazell, or Heacock as a defensive coach, becasue their defense is great. The team is a top 10 team going to another BCS game. However, I wouldn't take Bollman, as OL coach, because the o-line has sucked ever since he arrived. I want a coach that coached a good unit. I don't care about the rest of the team when looking at assistants.Sorry, but that is just plain wrong. Head coaches have the final say in the "system" that is run. The position coach or coordinator may not get to completely do things their own way. Example you ask.....Bruce Arians. He was the offensive coordinator for all of those joke Browns offenses. Guess what? He has the same job in Pittsburgh and his offense won super bowls.Nope. you are wrong. And I won't apologize for it. The Browns had little talent and still don't. Pittspuke has a lot of talent. ND had a lot of talent. When Brian Billick became HC of the Ravens, he was known for being an offensive coach. The Ravens had a terrible offense and won the SB because of their defense. Did he forget how to coach offense when he got to Baltimore or did he have less talent?Yes, the head coach suggests the system, but the coordinators and position coaches coach the players on it. The HC doesn't work much with the o-lineman, or the d-lineman or the db's etc. The HC delegates much of the coaching to the assistants. If you have a lot of talent, but you don't develop it, that is on the position coach most of the time. ND had a lot of talent, but little of it became a good cohesive unit.A good coach with good talent makes a great unit.A good coach with bad talent makes an ok unit.A bad coach with good talent makes a mediocre unit. A bad coach with bad talent....I think you can figure that out.You can use Phil Jackson as another example. A lot of people have said he is over rated because he had Jordan and now Kobe. That is implying that if he didn't have those guys he wouldn't have won anything and they are probably correct.. However, not other coach probably would have either. See, talent does make a difference.I could go on and on about this, but you obviously will disagree on it. I will leave it at this. I will not complain about Pawlus being QB coach, because Claussen was a good player. He was rated the #1 recruit at QB coming in, so I am sure that is part of it, but htere is no way to quantify that. Now imagine after being the #1 QB recruit in the nation, he came to ND and became as bad as CJ11. Would you want his position coach to be our next QB coach? I don't know about you, but I wouldn't.

Beacon Journal says Caleb staying!
Buckzip replied to UAbandfan's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Great news. Most of the team will be back and much more experienced. -
The ND defense was terrible. Let's get a guy that actually coached a good defense.

Irony can be very ironic.

FB? Tight end? What are these? They are players that get teams first downs, but not touchdowns. They are the type of player that people from the suburbs are obsessed with because they typically look like them so we get threads like this. The real question should be, Who are the big play wide receivers going to be next year? WRs get touchdowns, TEs and FBs get first down. The MAC tends to be a high scoring league so we need to put up points and show some ability to play defense. Nicely has a HUGE arm and they need to use that arm to throw the ball downfield to playmakers. Anyone can dink and dunk, but I think Nicely has the potential to be an NFL player if he improves his accruacy. They need to use him like an NFL QB.Perfect example happend last weekend. Jason Witten (TE) of the Cowboys had a personal career day with 15 catches and 153 yards. I'm sure suburban fans around the country were swooning at what a great accomplishment it was. They were the two most overrated statistics of the day. What they missed is he scored ZERO points. Let me repeat that.....he scored ZERO points. One more time....he scored ZERO points. His team lost. Amazing? No because football games are won with big plays on offense.Every time I read one of your completely clueless posts, I think that was the dumbest one yet. However, you always prove me wrong and post something even more ridiculous.

Powlus...Mr 4 time Heisman and NC winner...

It is sad that I'm happy about that comment, but I am. Choosing the proper scheme is step ONE of ten that Rob has to do to have a dominating defense at Akron. Good luck, I like his start.PS He looks good in that cap. Homo....

The ratings of the players really mean nothing. For example when Ohio State recruited A.J. Hawk he was a three star while there other linebacker was a five star and the the number 1 linebacker in the country. Well we all know A.J. Hawk went on to big things while the five star linebacker was plagued by injuries and never seen the field hardly.ROFLMAO. That is what nearly every OSU homer says when people complain about a 3* recruit. They bring up AJ Hawk. They tend to forget that Hawk was injured much of his senior year and that was why he was rated lower. As for D"Andrea, he never did get his stuff together, even when he was healthy. Which was a rarity.

I don't know about it being an honor...However, ND does have higher admission standards than UA. Perhaps some guys he was talking with, but couldn't get into ND, will decide to play for him at Akron. Remember these guys host a lot of recruits. Most don't get scholarship offers. Maybe he can get some guys here that weren't quite ND level talent but will be great UA talent.
-
D'Orazio is coming here as a safety I believe. Assuming he still wants to attend UA, that is. If Grand Valley State comes into the picture, we can kiss Zach good bye.Good thing that we are fighting GVS for recruits, and we would lose...
-
That would be nice to see some players come with him...I doubt it though.
-
So you are asuming that Tonga and Henderson will still be here along with Fleming. I hope you are correct. You forgot Joe Rash
-
So I take it you love this hire ITZ.
-
I doubt that any players that verballed to ND will now come to Akron. If they had offers from ND, they had offers from a lot of big programs. We can all hope though.
-
So we wanted a coach with some type of HC experience, even at a lower level. A coordinator at a bigger school was an option.Instead we go after a WR coach from a bad team....
-
Especially with Lemming doing the ratings....JD was a WR coach at Pitt and developed some great WR too. This sounds like Dejavu.
-
Agreed. The coaches need to take care of their athlete, but they also should show some respect to the local school.
-
They better hurry up. They need to be out there recruiting and meeting with the existing players to keep them at Akron.Exactly! The longer we wait, the more I think we're going after a BCS coordinator who might be able to bring along some recruits. If we wait too long and hire a lower-level coach he won't have the time to build a recruiting class. That's why I'm getting impatient.Maybe TW wants/needs to wait until after the D-2 Championship game this Saturday before he makes a final selection? That would be nice.
-
I agree. Bad idea to share. Especially if it isn't much better than the JAR.

These are the same guys that whine if their players aren't offered by UA...
