Go to hell.
-
Like it Captain... You know I've always felt that the athletic department could save several hundred thousand dollars by firing the marketing department and just leave a couple people in there to implement the ideas come up with on this board... it'd be a helluva lot more effective. We, the fans, know better how fans think than some slapdick with a marketing degree and ZERO sports or Zips knowledge.

That would certainly be a start, but honestly the basketball team has been winning for a while now and it's not like we're packing out the little ole JAR. In order to get more butts in the seats at a school like Akron it really comes down to the fact that the team has to do something significant that captures the public's imagination and makes it "cool" to be an Akron fan. The harsh reality is that we've got to somehow pull a Boise State, because winning the MAC is just not going to cut it. You're still going to get a "so what" from Joe Akron. We will never get more than a 15-20 k per game average unless we become significant in the college football world somehow, and we're a long way off from that. We're not even significant in the MAC at this point. I don't think we need to be Boise State. I do think we need to quit going 4-8, 5-6, 3-9, etc. Win 7 or 8 games and then ask the question. If we stay sub .500, the "Why won't fans come?" question is pretty pointless. NE Ohio fans see enough losing on Sundays. They want to at least go .500 for the weekend. Thus they root for Ohio State on Saturday. I can't blame them. Being a Zips fan is work. Until being a Zips fan is a party, Joe Akron remains in a coma. See Akron Basketball. Consistent winner, but still no butts in the seats. Why? Because they still aren't relevant in the college basketball. We could go 7-5, 8-4, 9-3, 8-4, 8-4, etc. over the next few seasons and the attendance still won't look all that different. Attendance will only change if we become a consistent contender in the top 25 and knock off a few big boys. That's what average sports fans get excited about, not beating Northern Illinois and Ball State on a consistent basis. Central Michigan has been a consistent winner for a few seasons now and their attendance still doesn't look all that much different from ours, because they still aren't relevant in the bigger college football world.

The players are off campus until June workouts begin. Unless a guy got hurt working out on his own in the weightroom, I doubt this is football related.

And whoever compared Kucinich and Ron Paul has no understanding whatsoever of politics. Those two are about as far apart on the political spectrum as two people can get.

Lol... zeitgeist. The movie laughed at and ignored by scholars, experts, or anyone with a high school education for that matter, but loved by morons on the internet. Anyone who allows their worldview to be changed by such ignorant babble is worse than the 6,000 year old earth people.

So more than 70 percent of people voted that Rob would be here for 6 years or more. That seems to be a pretty nice welcome?!?! Well yeah but half of Zips fans think he'll be fired, and he hasn't even coached one game! (Statistics provide us with such clear and undeniable conclusions, Dave is so right!!!! )

Tressel Never Quit Recruiting Howard
InTheZone replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Mr. Tressel has quite a history with this as a matter of fact. There was a certain D-lineman at Akron as a non-qualifier in '05 that CLAIMED he had been told by Tressel to go to Akron and get his grades and transfer. The guy claimed that he still talked to Tressel every week. Was he telling the truth? Who knows, maybe he was just trying to impress people into thinking he was more than he was, but maybe there's a pattern here. -
According to Rasor, Shaun Lemon will transfer
InTheZone replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
Hmmm.... - Lemon was small and weak. He would've been that end getting driven to the ground by a TE - Like Cap said, 4 sacks in 3 years? Not exactly Dwight Freeney, I think we'll survive without him. - Odds are if one of our starting ends had gotten hurt and Lemon were still with us, he'd still suck, because instead of preparing himself to play he would've been spending his time sulking and feeling sorry for himself. I'm sure whoever we have will do just fine. - So nope, I think Lemon's one of those players that in about two weeks, hardly anybody associated with the program will even remember his name. He spent 4 years here, and was never anything but a backup. Good luck to him. -

It's kind of humorous that Shawn Lemon was one of the few JD "Big-time Recruits" who came in here without the grades and actually worked out. But then in the end, he really didn't. I guess that makes JD 0 for 20. -
Dave I've been around here since pretty much the beginning of this board and you're the first person I've ever seen bitch about the moderating. Maybe that should tell you something. Moderation on many sports related boards is akin to the 3rd Reich. Around here, you can pretty much say whatever you want about whatever topic you want... there are no golden calves. I've had my disagreements with some of the moderators, but it's always within the topics of discussion, NEVER over how they moderate. Whatever you're upset over, get over it and get your panties out of a wad. Like somebody said, if you can't, I'm sure Cap or Dr. Z or zff would be happy to refund your membership dues. That is all. We may now return to predictions on when exactly Rob Ianello will be fired, thank you.

How long will it take Dave in Green and a few others to get a sense of humor? The thing about humor though, it's only funny when it's a reflection of reality.

I've done that before. Was telling a coworker of mine exactly how i felt about this bitch with a chip on her shoulder, and sent it straight to her. She took it straight to the head haunchos and said it was either gonna be me or her gone. I'm still here. In hindsight, I'm glad I accidently sent the text. Maybe Rob is too. Lemon sounds like a cancer. -
Pretty self explanatory. Welcome to Akron Rob.

None of the above? But best of luck to both of them. I hope they prove me wrong.

Rasor high on the Zips after Spring game
InTheZone replied to cornbread's topic in Akron Zips Football
Burney wasn't a recruit. He was a walk-on who started his career at Ashland, couldn't start there, and transferred here to save on school and decided to give football one more shot. I don't see him being much of a factor. -
There are facets of the libertarian mindset that should guide and inform policy decisions. But no taxes, no department of education, no IRS may sound very appealing, but it is no way to be a leader in the world. That is a belief that has been refuted by millions of years of fossil records. Truth and Spaghetti Monster-ism. RAmen. I think your missing the point cornbread. In Ron Paul's view, America isn't supposed to be the "leader of the world"... the world is fully capable of leading itself. And Ron Paul has never advocated "no taxes"... obviously that would be ridiculous. He advocates the ending of the IRS, as there is no constitutional right for the FEDERAL government to dip into the personal earnings of its citizens. That's a far cry from no taxes however. There are still all kinds of corporate and other taxes that provide enough revenue to run the kind of limited constitutional government that Paul advocates at the federal level. You slash all of the federal government programs that are far and away outside of the bounds of the constitution, and other tax revenues are sufficient and there's no need for the IRS. The hole left by the absence of these programs shifts taxing and spending burdens back to the states, where they belong. Education is a state issue and a state has the right to set its own standards. The Department of Education is a gigantic waste of money and exercises authority that is unconstitutional. As to your Earth argument, you're preaching to the choir buddy, I'm not saying I subscribe to those views. At the same time, I refuse to be dismissive of them. If there's anything that a study of the history of science should tell you, it's that what we think we know beyond a shadow of a doubt, we don't really know. The Young Earth folks could be right for all we really know, the more years pass, the more carbon dating has shown its flaws as a legitimate tool of knowledge. In 100 years, in all likelihood people are going to be laughing at what we think we "know" now like we do at "scientific" beliefs of a century ago. My point however was not to argue Young Earth views, as I don't believe in them, but rather to state that if you support Ron Paul, you can't dismiss those people as loons, because Ron Paul is one!

I didn't vote for Paul in '08 mainly because of his calls to pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan. While I support the non-interventionist, non-nation building policies that George W. Bush actually ran on in 2000, once we're in it, we have to win it. Pulling out of Iraq in '08 would've been a huge mess and emboldened foreign terrorists (I know that sounds like a neocon talking point, but there's an element of truth to it). Here in 2010 looking forward to 2012 however, a vote for Paul makes sense. Foreign policy wise, Paul is absolutely correct. It was not the intent of our founders nor are we finacially capable any longer of being the world's police. The amount of money we would save by simply closing our foreign bases and telling the rest of the world its time to take care of yourself is absolutely staggering. You wanna pay off the debt? End ridiculous federal deficitis? That would go a long way towards it. As a non-interventionist state we let the rest of the world handle their own issues, and we look out for our own national defense... TRUE national defense, which is simply, as the name should suggest, defending our soil. If anyone comes against us on our soil (which no one ever will), we strike back mercilessly and let them clean up the mess. You don't mess with us, we don't mess with you. Domestically, I can't even begin to describe how glorious a Ron Paul America would be. So I'm not going to. Pick up some literature and figure it out yourselves. If Paul runs in 2012, he has my vote. I just wish there was a younger candidate out there espousing Paul's views, as Paul is already in his mid-70's. Gary Johnson doesn't bring the social conservative credits to the table that Paul does, and thus he would alienate too much of America to have a winning coalition of voters. Whoever said Paul was "Pro-Death" earlier in the thread needs to do a little more research before typing such ignorant things. Paul has a 100% Pro-Life voting record, and has stated numerous times that if government has any absolutely essential function, it is the preservation of life. Btw GP1, I would watch your criticism of people who think the Earth is 6,000 years old. Paul is a Southern Baptist. He's likely one of them.

They're not quite dead yet. Memphis basketball was around long before Calipari, and their massive basketball bankroll & Fed Ex Forum says they won't be "down" long. Their nationally #1 ranked recruiting class for next season would seem to say that too... They will probably be competing for a national championship again next year. But hey, let's stay in the MAC, where our conference champion wins a postseason game once every 8 years . Completely agree with CK, if we're lucky enough to get a CUSA invite, we should not only take it but nominate John Buchtel for sainthood... he's met the miracle requirement.
