Dambrot Mentioned in SI Article on LeBron
Zips Win! replied to UAZip0510's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Great topic. Ditto for local coverage come MAC tournament time. All the local hacks can talk about when UA comes up is Dambrot and Lebron. Screw that! Let's talk Zips..not about Dambrot's buddy. -

I'm in LZip's corner on this one...We do get free shoes however... -
Which means all the Zips football faithful will be in c-bus watching a spring game.

Me too! FIVE frickin home games by October 20th. This is unbelievable...I love it.

Boals to OU?

Heck with the coaching situation. I read a great article in Pitt Post Gazette yesterday about this. Not only are most surprised at the AD firing the coach, the AD was unaware that he had 4 really good recruits coming in. I heard at least two are not going to Duquesne now. I think we need to see if any of those players have an interest in the Zips.

Completely agree. There will be many, many, many UA alum falling over themselves for a chance to talk tosu football with The Vest. If they have to throw a few bucks UA's way, they will. Otherwise, they don't give a damn about UA...it was just a place to get a degree.

Where is Big Zip at? I need you to settle this!!!

I wasn't torn at all. Screw OU! UM let me down again. Did enjoy the Lehigh and Norfolk wins, though!

It was sure money under Ianello. Well, kinda!

Really? You wanted to watch it this week. I'll pass on sports for a while.

As mentioned, no there are no easy answers. Unfortunately, money/donations will always dictate who gets the best seats. Personally, I want the best seats going to the folks who actually go to the most games. Then maybe we would get the few hardcore fans that we have sitting together. Would it have an impact and get folks to make noise/stand up? Who knows! Sit them behind the standing Rowdies and make them stand-up, now we might have something... My guess is that 50% or more of the Zips fans in attendance at the Q on Saturday was their first time to a game all year. They don't give a damn about the Zips. It was just something to do on a Saturday night.. And the atmosphere is almost as bad when we do make the NCAAA's. How many of the fans who got the best seats in Chicago last year went to 5 or fewer games? Or had GA tickets? Tons. They knew a donor who could get them the best tickets and so they went. It's all about the dough you donate...not who really gives a damn.

Agree. March sadness is back. Same garbage every year. Multiple Big East teams, one big ten and even 1 pac- 12 did not deserve to go. Drexel did. ORU did. No matter how much success mid -majors have- VCU e.g., we will always be looking in. Then the NIT gives mostly the power 6 conferences the home games. CM Newton was clueless selecting the NCAA field years ago, now he's in charge of the NIT. When will these old farts just go away..

Will be there as promised!

Agree. It wasn't perfect, but pretty darn good. They had 5 or 6 appetizers for half price, several beer options and unlimited time before the games to party. And heck, the bar area and couch/fireplace area made it nice to mingle. And my kids liked the food.

This couldn't get any worse. These wonderful "specials" start at 5 frickin pm. They might actually have time to serve 10 of them before the game. This blows!

I stopped into the Clevelander (next door to Paninis) after the women’s game today. Sorry, folks this place will be LAME. Give me the Cadillac Ranch any day! There were two signs advertising Zips Specials. You can get a $5 pitcher of Budweiser or 5-Bud Light bottles for $12. (this is no special) When I asked what the specials were today, he said there weren’t any other than happy hour prices. I thought this was the Zips home for the MAC tournament! He said the Zips specials were on Friday and Saturday. I asked him what food/appetizers were a part of the deal and he said there were NONE. Then he clearly repeated that they made no promises with UA on food. I told him that was lame and walked out the door…

I think what he meant to say was sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. On some nights the poing guard is really good and other days, not so much. While we really do not want to lose to Can't we all know that the games in Cleveland at the MAC tournament are more important. So, we will just play this game and give it our best shot, but at the end of the day you really won't know the outcome until about 9pm tonight.

KD says NCAA tournament should be expanded...
Zips Win! replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Amen brother. I've been saying this for years... Now I hear teams like UConn, WVU, Northwestern have shots at bids. It's a bunch of crap.. -
I hope! For two consecutive years I made the trip to OU. Each year, it was the worst game of the year. I think the Zips Win! jinx is alive and well. I promise not to go next year. What a raucous place to watch a game. Over 8K in attendance on a Sunday evening. While I was not surprised by the number of OU students in attendance, I was surprised by their "Akron sucks" chants and by their ability to flip the bird to the Rowdies in attendance. I hope the Rowdies have the opportuity for payback in the future. The crowd was loud and into the game. For awhile though, I thought I was sitting in front of a bunch of buckeye fans. I mean, they complained loudly after every OU foul. And they were up 30! I guess they were expecting to play 40 minutes and not be called for any fouls... This was a bad loss. OU was able to take Q totally out of his game- 0 points in 23 minutes. Even with the garbage tech called by Wymer, Q needs to refocus as we will need him down the stretch. Projecting the standings at the Q. Our #1 seed will probably get us Can't or BG. As the #1 seed will play the winner of 4,5,8,9 and 12.

Coach Waters snubs the media (fans) after a tough loss
Zips Win! replied to Spin's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Sports talk in Cleveland is priceless when: 1-The buckeyes lose. But then again, tosu never loses, the clock just runs out on them. To hear the excuses is over the top. In fact, one fan was reminded today that they went 6-7 this year and he said it didn't matter. Really? Undeafeated a decade ago matters, but 6-7 does not!! OK. 2. The Steelers win. The hatred toward Steeler fans is funny as heck. To hear a Browns fan describe a Steelers fan is even better. Front runner, pompous, arrogant, never lived in Pittsburgh,etc.. By the way, those are the same terms used to describe Buckeye fans-as many of those same Browns fans are, yet they conveniently forget that. 3. Browns win A game and you instantly hear that they are headed to the Super Bowl... -
I disagree. Hawkins made two awful coaching decisons.. He did not play Stainbrook the last 10 minutes. He was disrupting our bigs all night long. Without him Zeke really dominated late in the game. And the end of game play to run down and out the clock was terrible...Still have no idea what they were trying to do..

The hiring of JT is yet another example that goes to show you that crime does indeed pay. …Lying and cheating lands you a job making $200K. Wonderful!! Personally, I find the decision to hire him 90% idiotic and 10% genius. In the end, my guess is that this is a 12-18 month engagement that will not amount to much for UA. If he can show the NCAA that he was truly sorry for his actions at tosu with positive work at UA, just maybe he can get his show cause penalty reduced and he will be back coaching somewhere. The sooner the better… In the short-term, I can see his presence felt on campus. Unfortunately, I do not see how engaging with a bunch of UA students to talk tosu football is going to help. Students will continue to go through the motions in support of UA and it’s athletic teams. Getting to meet and talk to JT will just increase their love and support for tosu. Super!!! The genius part of the hire will have to do with alumni. UA realized that we have tens of thousands of alumni who are moronic buckeye honks. We also have many others who masquerade as Zips fans. What better way is there to make them all feel good about their favorite college football team- tosu, while getting them to pony up a few bucks to UA than to have UA alumni events that give everyone an opportunity to discuss tosu football with JT? It’s a win-win for everyone. Pure genius on UA’s part. An invitation to Zips Win! will not be needed.
