  1. Genius my ass. His style of play is the most god awful brand of hoops known to mankind. My daughters begged me to go to Oxford yesterday. I refused as I knew the game would be terrible. Now, don't take this the wrong way. I hope Coles stays at MU for another decade. He will win if he gets lucky, otherwise, no way... We complain about attendance at the JAR. It's no wonder they get 1500 to watch that crap... Finally, play Harney!!!
  2. Nice article. I'm jealous of their crowd of 6,063. I just returned from Huntington at 2 today. In the end I was happy I made the 4.5 hour trek. My daughters wanted to see the Marshall football stadium and commemorative plaques from the 1970 team as they have watched the movie a half- dozen times… A very quaint campus and town with an awesome bar near in Fat Patty’s..to bad it was too crowded before and after to get a seat… Walking the halls of the old arena I noticed that the Knicks head coach attended Marshall…How knew? And yes, the crowd was great…over 6K and MU did have a terrible shooting night, both at in the field and at the line… However, I was very impressed with the following: Other than a few touch fouls on Zeke, I thought the officiating was terrific. They allowed both teams to play a physical game. Gilliam gave us a big lift hitting 5-7. The two misses were good shots. This made up for Q’s lack of scoring. We went to Zeke early and often, he was a force on the defensive end. They pulled the chair out from under him once and hit the deck hard. A foul was called and the place booed loudly. I kinda agreed….where was the foul? Tree was awesome. He gave us a great lift with his offensive rebounding…When we get him to make his layups and dunks, I see an All-MAC performer. Harney, too. He played 9 minutes. I want to see him more as his natural talent is unlimited. I do realize minutes are tight, though. Especially with Nik playing one of his best games. What a huge difference it makes when his 2- foot shots go in…And he kept his cool… Finally, pound for pound, AA may be the toughest dude on the team.. He was slightly overmatched with a little taller guards from MU and he was relentless on both sides. He penetrated the lane early and often and got guys better shots. If we can get comfortable taking care of the ball, look out Mid-American Conference…This team can flat out ball..
  3. Screw that! We should get to see him at the press conference. Typical UA, the press conference is closed to the 17 real fans that we have. I'm sure the ass kisses on all the committees will be in attendance.
  4. I remember listening to the Buffalo game he referenced. I was in the car listening as my wife/kids were shopping. I almost kicked the radio in as the lead was melting away. Gotta love D. Hip....
  5. DIG- Do you have anything better to do than to spend your entire day making worthless posts? FOUR in one thread, please. Breaking bread with Buckzip would be more enjoyable.
  6. GP1 cannot wait for this hire.
  7. Go ahead. He gets our incorrect name in the media, doesn't show up at our basketball games, does go to c-bus games and gets us Nike shoes. Big wup.
  8. Bruce Hooley was on the Really Big Show this AM. He indicated that Fickel will be paid $750K as a position coach on Meyer's staff and that Tressel is indeed interested in the UA job and maybe the UCLA job.
  9. Great post JZ84. I'd just like to focus on this little bit. We have learned in the past year that Tressel was a fake and fraud as it relates to his campaign to be the most honorable person in America. He can't afford to come to Akron and be exposed as a fake and fraud as a coach. He'll never take the chance. Tressel won a boatload of games at OSU with three MAC schools per year and a cake Big Ten schedule. He routinely got his butt kicked against OOC BCS teams. There is no scheduling to hide behind at Akron. He can't take the risk of being exposed. One thing Tressel isn't is a risk taker and Akron is a huge risk for him. I've never said that Tressel couldn't win at Akron. There just isn't any evidence to show he can win without breaking NCAA rules. I don't want to risk him not being able to win without breaking rules at Akron. If he doesn't break rules and loses, we are screwed. If he breaks rules, wins and gets caught, we are screwed. If he doesn't break rules and wins, which there is no proof of, we win. We have a 2 in 3 chance of losing with this guy. No thanks. People need to think with their heads and not with their hearts. This is a fair post. And the negatives don't end there. We know Tressel won boatloads of games at OSWho by scheduling inferior competition in the OOC games, and got a handful of cupcake games on top of that from the bad teams in the weak Big 11 conference. Against Top-ranked teams, he failed miserably. Against the Top conference in the country, he failed miserably. However, many people think that OSWho has the best talent in the country, right? So, I have to ask...how many inferior teams can we put on our schedule? Not many, since nearly every team in D-1A is better than us right now, And...how can anyone make the assumption that good players want to play for Tressel, and not that they just simply wanted to play at OSWho? How many kids on Solich's roster at OU are anywhere near high level talent? Plus, the nicely-pressed sweater vest won't look the same to kids in different colors, especially with the recent massive hit to his credibility and honesty. I just think there's some assumptions here that really need some further thought. First, lets look at his history against ranked teams: 2001 - Defeated #14 Northwestern, #11 Michigan...Lost to #14 UCLA, #12 Illinois, #14 South Carolina 2002 - Defeated #10 Washington State, #17 Penn State, #19 Minnesota, #12 Michigan, #1 Miami 2003 - Defeated #17 Washington, #9 Iowa, #24 NC State, #14 Michigan State, #11 Purdue, #8 Kansas State...Lost to #5 Michigan, #23 Wisconsin 2004 - Defeated #7 Michigan...Lost to #15 Wisconsin 2005 - Defeated #21 Iowa, #17 Michigan State, #22 Minnesota, #17 Michigan, #6 Notre Dame....Lost to #2 Texas, #18 Penn State 2006 - Defeated #2 Texas, #13 Iowa, #2 Michigan...Lost to #2 Florida 2007 - Defeated #20 Purdue, #25 Penn State, #19 Wisconsin, #23 Michigan...Lost to #2 LSU 2008 - Defeated #18 Wisconsin, #20 Michigan State...Lost to #1 USC, #3 Penn State, #3 Texas 2009 - Defeated #11 Penn State, #15 Iowa, #7 Oregon...Lost to #3 USC 2010 - Defeated #12 Miami, #21 Iowa, #8 Arkansas...Lost to #18 Wisconsin By my count: 34-15 vs Top 25 10-8 vs non-Big Ten Top 25 1) A ranked team is a top team, regardless of what conference they play in, and I don't think 10-8 is "failing miserably". 2) Nobody outside of Columbus thinks Ohio State has or has ever had the best overall talent in the country, even in their best years. 3) If his biggest on-field issue is not being able to beat Top 3 SEC schools, I think we'll be OK. Great! I knew some buckeye honk would post the tosu wins over second tier BCS schools and big ten schools ranked #15-25. THese schools were only ranked this high because they beat up on the MAC and started 4-0 or 5-1. This was a great thread until DFG had to post yet another meaningless thread just to clog up ZNO. Get a job, go volunteer or start your own Zips board. Just stop posting.
  10. Completely false. When the recruits are told they are going to Akron and not tosu, after one year it will be back to business (recruiting) as usual.
  11. Would you like to go on record some more?Amen, brother!
  12. All true, but I think you forgot the biggest one. He would draw a crowd at Infocision. All that being said, I am still against it. I don't like rewarding a multiple rule breaker and hypocrite. I'm not against it as much as I once was. The program is in such disarray right now, his pros may outweigh his cons in this case. Nah, I still hate that smug look on his face. This is why I need to be on the search committee to get the real facts. At first glance, I would be against it as well, but could be persuaded.. Agree- would draw a big crowd, unfortunately most would be dressed in red and silver. UA may like this, real Zips fans wouldn't. He is still a big, fat liar and this would need to be vetted out. Find it hard to believe that after one recruiting class, the Jim Tressel "name" would mean much. Yes it meant alot when coaching at tosu, but when players realize they aint going to c-bus, how great of an impact will it really be? i.e. Will JT recruit like hell or will he hand out scholarships to the hundreds of contacts he has made through out the state as favors to friends' kids who may not be D1 talent.
  13. I talked to a realtor friend of mine and he told me he is buying a house in Hudson.
  14. I ran across this article from Sept 6th. I don't recall this getting posted. Gregg Doyle nailed it after one game. The football season would have been better if we hadn't showed up all year. There's no crying in football -- unless you're a coach By Gregg Doyel | CBSSports.com National Columnist Akron's Rob Ianello and Ohio State's Luke Fickell chat. After the game, Ianello was unhappy. (US Presswire) The thing is, I was there for Akron-Ohio State. I was there for this 42-0 beatdown, but my mistake was going to the winning locker room. Had I known what Akron coach Rob Ianello had done immediately after the game, I would have hightailed it to the Zips' locker room and asked the question I'm now dying to know: Where were you hiding your pacifier during the game, Coach Ianello? You big baby. Lots of these guys are babies, of course. It shouldn't be such a shock to my system every time another football coach gives us a peek under the façade and reveals his diapers. But it is. It's a shock, maybe because they're such hypocrites. Football coaches act like they're the toughest people around -- jaws of granite, eyes of steel, mannerisms of macho. And then something like this happens. A coach loses a game, and out comes the pacifier. Wah! The other team scored too much! The other team tried too hard! The other football team, get this, kept playing football until the final horn! Wahhhhhhhhh. Babies. This isn't about Ianello as much as it's about all these football babies. But Ianello, bless him, started this season off with a tantrum that allows me to address the issue and even offer advice to any future coaches -- jaws of granite, eyes of steel, underwear of Huggies -- who get tempted to whine about a loss. Kind of like Ianello whined after that 42-0 loss, when he sulked across the field of Ohio Stadium, met Ohio State coach Luke Fickell and told him, "I don't think that's real good sportsmanship but good luck the rest of the year." Nice passive-aggressive pout there. Ianello couldn't even whine like an adult. What was his problem? Honestly, I have no idea. The ESPN announcers at the game thought they had an inkling to the insult -- here's the video clip -- as it was happening, noting that Ohio State was allowing tailback Carlos Hyde to go for the 100-yard plateau. As if that's some major insult or something. And as if there weren't mitigating factors even if it was some major insult. Which it is not. But the mitigating factors are these: Ohio State has five game-ready tailbacks on the roster, a normal amount. Three of them weren't able to play Saturday, two because of suspension and a third because of injury. That left Carlos Hyde and Rod Smith as the only two available. Hyde finished with 19 carries for 93 yards. Smith had 18 for 74. Before Hyde got the last three carries of the game, Smith had received the previous 11 carries. It was the end of a three-hour game on a day when the field temperature hit 120 degrees and a referee was sidelined from heat dehydration. Is it OK, Coach Ianello, if Rod Smith gets a break? This stuff is infuriating because these coaches act so big and bad until it's time to show their baby-soft rear end, and again, this isn't directed merely at Rob Ianello. It's directed at Kansas City Chiefs coach Todd Haley, who has twice made a scene after a game because the other coach was a big fat meanie. Once was an exhibition in August when Haley didn't appreciate Ravens coach John Harbaugh letting his deep reserves play actual football -- and score -- in the final seconds. The other was last year against the Broncos, when Haley scolded victorious Denver coach Josh McDaniels rather than shake his hand. Pete Carroll, operating a semi-pro team at Southern California, didn't like it when the amateurs at Stanford stuck it to him in 2009, so he whined at Cardinal coach Jim Harbaugh, "What's your deal?" Harbaugh liked the moment so much, he made it his team's slogan. When he was an assistant at Nebraska, Bo Pelini ran down Kansas State coach Bill Snyder to whine about a 38-9 loss in Lincoln. Minnesota's Tim Brewster got fussy with Wisconsin's Bret Bielema after a big loss. So did Rutgers' Doug Graber with Joe Paterno after Penn State had the audacity to call a play from its playbook with the score 52-34. That was 1995. Here it is. And lots of fans -- lots of you -- think these coaches aren't babies. You think they're right. And there are times, yes, when a football coach can become a classless jerk. One time was in 2007 when Rutgers from the BCS was playing Norfolk State from whatever they call Division I-AA, and Rutgers was winning 45-0 late in the first half when coach Greg Schiano called timeouts to stop the clock and get the ball one more time before the break. That's classless. But most of the time there's a reason for whatever you saw late in the game. Fickell didn't have any other running backs at Ohio State. Harbaugh and the Ravens were giving hard-working practice players a chance to play in the game. When Oklahoma's Barry Switzer was accused of running up the score in the 1970s against Big 8 losers, he was putting his fourth-stringers onto the field. If the other team couldn't stop Oklahoma's worst players, whose fault was that? Switzer's? Back to Ianello, who didn't respond to my interview request Monday but did address the issue on the weekly MAC teleconference, saying: "Luke and I spoke before and after the game, and I would prefer to keep the topic of those discussions between he and I." So allow me to expand on the situation. Ohio State had the ball inside the Akron 20 for the final 2½ minutes on Saturday, and Fickell gave it to his fourth-string tailback three straight times to run out the clock. And that's not enough, Rob Ianello? You don't think that's real good sportsmanship? Tell you what, Rob. Your team plays Temple and Cincinnati in the next two weeks. Temple won 42-7 on Saturday. Cincinnati won 72-10. Since you're so easily offended, maybe you shouldn't show up at all. But good luck the rest of the year.
  15. Even though Fausty is the worst coach in college football history, I would take him (Gerry not Jerry) anyway. Just kidding!! JD gets my vote. Why was Jim D. left off the list?
  16. I just got back from the ticket office to get tickets for the Detroit game for my dad and nephew. I was the first person today not to get the "Lebron" tickets. Floor seats are sold out but they still had GA, upper and lower reserved left. 1 girl working the counter and 3 guys in the back doing nothing. Amazing that the floor seats are sold out and others are going fast. The folks of Akron will buy this garbage and not pony up for the Zips. Unbelievable! All for an idiot that gets us free Nike shoes. Wow...
  17. Sounds fairly accurate to me. Until 2010, Fausty could have been labeled the worst coach in college football history and you would be hard pressed to find someone who would disagree....
  18. Nice officiating!! How many extra possessions did the refs give them and we still won. Call another foul and put them at the line why don't ya.....So much for the Medical Examiner (Quincy) coming off the bench. Score, score, score....Slice and dice (the opponent) as any ME would do. Start and play 35 minutes a game...Coming off the bench was last year....Finally, a Juby Johnson in a Zip uniform...Walsh is the real deal..So much for worrying about the back-up point guard. We have one. Now he and Mac need to shoot the rock..Hoops is back... What a great time of the year....
  19. I say we all head down to Lot 9 and tailgate tomorrow afternoon at 1. We can all commiserate, tune in a game on local tv and look forward to knowing that we don't have to pack-up and watch a beat down in Infocision. It's one Saturday in November the Zips will not lose.
  20. TWO Xmas Ales?? I was hullucinating after ONE!!!!You guys are light weights...After sitting through this crappy football season, I loaded up with seven cases to get through the winter.
  21. Did anyone notice that at the bottom of the screen, one of the crawls said Akron (OH)?That was for the 6 fans from Wisconsin who thought Akron was from...California.
  22. I wouldn't trade Meves for any goalie in college soccer...
  23. If the Zips put on 90 minutes of full on soccer the match would have been a slaughterand stopped in the fifty-seventh minute 9-0.Meves was up and down. He nearly muffed two shots in the first half and then redeemedhimself after the break. He is still disappointing and scary.Actually, disappointing and scary describes somebody else....
  24. It's a free country...Then transfer if you don't like it..
  25. Home soccer game next Saturday evening.
