Memorial hall is arena sized and much too small. In face, it's not even a great size for an arena. I'm talking Memorial as well as a couple of the other eyesores that exist around it. Think Memorial, Carrol, Kolbe and Leigh Halls. Only flaw that I could see in this is that Kolbe is the base zone for WZIP and was remodled not that long ago if memory serves and Leigh I know was completely redone recently and is the base for the center for distrubuted learning with all kinds of tech. gadgets for classroom communications around the globe.

Just out of curiosity what would be the potential of putting up a stadium in the position of the old Memorial Hall. I know Proenza has talked in the past about replacing Memorial as well as a few other buildings (although which ones escapes my memory at the moment). We could put the new stadium up right there in the center of campus. Tear down a few of the old eyesores. Take over Hower from the city to replace the classroom space lost and use the area's talked about previously for the stadium for parking.

At least one of these guys is going to have to convert to WR or DB more than likely. I just think that with Jacksons reasoning for choosing Akron in the first place over places like Michigan State (he wanted to play QB not be converted to DB) that he would be the one most likely to cut in run when faced with that potential. As much as I hate to say it I don't think Jackson is going to finish his career in a Zips uni.

So we have a huge game this Saturday against our archrival for the outright lead in the MAC East and NOONE is talking about it. What gives?

Noticed this myself, praticularly in the first half. Seemed the Bulls were jumping the ball on the inbound and getting the steal or coming close a lot. Got toned down some in the second half but it was pretty scary to watch in the first.

Here is how I think it goes for next year.QBstarter- Getsy: This is pretty much a given. 2nd string- Jaquemain: A year experience in the system gives him the nod over Hakes.3rd string- Hakes: Young and raw, will need some time to develop but will have that time after a redshirt year.Jackson realizes that he isn't going to see playing time at QB here, or really anywhere in IA for that matter and transfers either to IAA as a QB or to a BCS school as a QBRBstarter- Kennedy: I think the coaching staff is most familiar with him and he looked good in the time he got this year.second string- Reed: Reed will pickup second string because of his game breaking ability.third string- Allen/Boone: These two likely won't see much playing time.

Wow, and you guys thought the football board was bad after the loss to Army. Check this shit out.http://www.bobcatattack.com/messageboard/forum.asp?PID=1

Yeah, highlight for me was their coach losing it on the sideline. The "Cedrics better" chant and the look on his brothers face every time it started. Prestons putback dunk. Lowlights: Romeo and Nick goin to the floor hard and not getting back up for a few seconds. Glad they both got back in and finished the game well though. Ohh, and not getting those extra 5 points to get us to 80 so I could get my free chicken sandwich. (I'm smelling conspiracy here, I think UAM told the guys not to score any more late in the half so they didn't have to give out all those sandwiches. j/k)

Really shouldn't have even been that close. We were up by 20 or 21 most of the last five minutes and then Buffalo started getting some desperation drives and getting fouled on them. Only time this one was close was about the first 10 minutes. Akron started pulling away towards half time. Buffalo got it to within 10 in the second but couldn't come any closer after the wheels fell off, four of their guys got in foul trouble and their coach apparently lost his mind. I must say their coach is very entertaining to watch.

Easy, he commited to a mid-major.

I have to wonder if $20 million isn't the budget they have set for a goal for announcement/groundbreaking and that additional funds to finish the project would be obtained from there.

From what I read it to be too, the kid has already gotten his ducks in order academically and shouldn't have to Prop or anything like that. Excellent pickup.

If we couldn't get Chris Wells...
Quickzips replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Wow, Penn State fans really hate this kid. Apparently there are rumors going around about him getting into a fight with Michael Robinson and/or other players at a visitation day and many see him as an attitude problem. I'm starting to wonder if we don't get him for the wrong reasons. If anyone is looking for a link just run a google search on "Penn State Message Board" and you will find boards with a thread or two with info on this. -

No offense to Capn' or ITZ but for now I'm gonna take a wait and see approach on this one. It will be huge if it happens though. -
Just another total guess here but Jan Gewont, Guard out of Illinois? Listed on Rivals as only a "soft verbal" to Toledo. Again, just a guess.

Got my ticket to the game. Looking forward too it, but we also gotta get through Buffalo first.

Gas from Columbus to Akron: $20Textbooks: $200Realizing that you dodged going to Marshall: Priceless

6-6 301 lb. Center Mark Jackson decommited from Marshall and commited to Akron. He is a 3 star recruit out of Columbus Brookhaven. Ranked #7 Center in the country and the #19 overall recruit from the state of Ohio. Apparently his decision to decommit from Marshall came at the advice of his mother. Heck of a landing for the zips.http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewprospect.a...y=32781&Sport=1

Kind of part of what I was getting at with my point about the coaching staff/systems in '04. Thanks for expounding on that a little though.

My initial thoughts in reading this.Scheduling can only be looked at as a one piece of the puzzle for a team. I have become a strong believer that the "single cause" theory is horse shit no matter what you apply it to. Factors to take into account in both seasons.2004:-Entirely new coaching staff and new system. You fail to even mention this in your arguement for why the '04 team sucks (I've infered over a number of posts that this is your opinion, if it is not I apologize). It is hard at any level to bring in a first time head coach, a new coaching staff, a new offensive system and a new defensive system and make it work right away. I doubt it would have had much affect at Penn State or Virginia but I will say that if those players had more experience in the system we win against Middle Tennessee and that NIU game is a lot closer.-The Biggs factor. You do mention this in your arguement but when Biggs got in there the offense was better. Kudos to J.D. for recognizing this and sticking with it although I would argue that he seemed to foget it early on during the '05 season.-Graduation of top WR talent. We all know that Hixon was a superb reciever and that it took J.D. coming in to figure out that he was better as a WR than a S. But having your starting S from the season before come in and be your #1 WR is never a good thing in the West Coast offense.-Regardless of what you want to say, the senior leadership of the '04 team was insturmental in bringing that team up, if from no other prespective than from morale. It is well documented that after Virginia/NIU weeks this team was in the dumps and on the verge of packing it in. The SENIORS on the team stepped up and helped to keep that from happening. Say what you will about them as players, but please do not disrespect what they did from a leadership prespective.2005:-Getsy injury. Yeah, I know he was never really "officially" on the injury report. I think we've all seen though that he hurt himself at the CMU game and it effected the offense through the middle of the season. It lead a lot of us (myself at the forefront) to call for Ferguson and I still maintain that whatever flaws Ferguson had wouldn't have hurt us as much as leaving Getsy in there to throw ducks around for a month. Just put Luke on the injury report for a few weeks and let him get healthy. Make sure he knows it is still his job, but that we can't have him back there with a bad hand. It isn't a matter of rattling his confidence or anything. Just a matter of letting him get healthy quicker. You let him heal properly and we probably win that Ball State game and don't need tons of help to get into the MACC game in the end.-Newcomers at key positions. Both on the line and at QB. It wasn't until seasons end that the offensive line really got the point where it could be considered "adequate" and even that is a stretch. Any yards that Biggs got on the ground and any good passes that Getsy got off were generally of their own making b/c that offensive line wasn't giving them a lot of help. Then there was the rash of false start, holding and personal foul penalties that plagued them as a unit. Needless to say I will be one looking for improvement there next season. Those are just a few things to ADD to scheduling. Obviously if you play the top 11 teams in the country from start to finish of your schedule you are more likely to go 0-11. If you play the 11 worst teams in the country you are more likely to go 11-0. But like they always say "You've got to play the game." And in all honesty, when you look at 3 more wins than loses overall in 2004 and the fact that the last 5 games from each season are only within 1 combined win from each other it is hard to say that there were a whole lot of differences in the two. Just my thoughts.
