  1. Nevermind the insanity of picking Can't to win the East, is anyone else a little weirded out by his "All Uniform: Guys who just look good in their uniforms, team?"
  2. Your "insulated view" comment can be thrown right back at you. If you think the only teams in the land capable of having a top unit are the big BCSer's your flat out wrong. And BTW, Memphis DID have one of the best running units in the country last year. Look it up if you don't believe me. Same with NIU. Memphis was lead by some kid by the name of DeAngelo Williams who the Carolina Panthers felt highly enough to take in the first round of the draft. NIU was lead by Garrett Wolfe who is one of the best backs in all of college football right now when he's healthy. Now go back into your little BCS shell and wait for the beatdown that is coming to you on the second.
  3. This horse is dead. Can we please stop beating it???
  4. LOL the funniest thing about that is that the board filter changed it to can't.edu in the url. Page won't open.
  5. He can't when every play that gets called is a 3-step drop dumpoff route to the TE. Seriously. Mo Carthon has to be the most uncreative spineless OC in the NFL. The only guy he let air it out at all was the 4th stringer Campbell.
  6. Is it just me or does it seem like we are going to have a boatload of WR's on this roster in the coming years? Every time I turn around we've got another commitment from a WR.
  7. A little comforting, but contracts are meant to be broken. In this day in age a fat contract extension doesn't mean a whole lot if either party isn't satisfied with the results or is looking for greener pastures.
  8. Fact of the matter is Toledo has done just fine for years finding that hidden talent in guys that noone else gives a second thought. Nothing wrong with it at all, just not a conventional way of doing things.
  9. Funny thing is that even the Elyria Chronicle which I recieve at home had a nice sized rightup on Zips Soccer today. It was in regards to two of our new recruits (well one recruit and one transfer). Didn't check the Beacon but doubt it made coverage.Incidently I graduated from High School with the kid who is transfering, Devin McKenney. Not exactley my favorite person from high school but, hey, can't love em all right?
  10. Whats the matter red_steve, tired of stroking your ego over at hawktalk?
  11. That right there is the main thing keeping me happy. The schedule is grueling, no doubt about that. But if we can pull off an upset or two in there early it can build even more momentum within the community than what we already have.As far as Terry Pluto goes, Mike, I understand what your trying to say defending him, but the average reader isn't going to read into it like that. Readers are going to take things at face value, not read between the lines. A guy who's been around as long as Terry Pluto should know that. I doubt there is any kind of hidden meaning or message to this article.
  12. When I saw the title of this post the first thing that came to my head was "duh"
  13. That just doesn't roll off the tounge as nicely as "defense wins championships."
  14. Take care of business where we are now and whatever shakes out, shakes out. No sense in getting distracted by looking at the Big East and forgetting about what we've got going on now.
  15. I'm going with Cincinnati. We should beat them. Ohh yeah, forgot about them, lol. I got a feeling that will be a win for us but I would get much more excited knocking off Penn St. or NC St. than I would Cincy. Heck, I expect to knock of Cincy. The other two I would look at as upsets.
  16. Thats probably my favorite line of the whole thing right there. As much as I'd love to beat Penn St. I think our best shot at knocking off a BCS team is going to come against NC St. That team was gutted on both sides of the ball this year and especially on defense where they lost five starters to the draft (Mario Williams, Manny Lawson, John McCargo, Stephen Tulloch and Marcus Hudson). Heck 3/4 of their d-line went in the first round (Williams, Lawson and McCargo). That is a team ripe for the pickins right there. If we can come out of that OOC schedule at .500 or above then the MAC seriously needs to watch out for the Zips. As far as giving Getsy more control of the offense I'm all for it. Keeping him healthy is going to be a big thing this year. We all saw how bad he looked mid-season when his throwing hand wasn't right. We can't have that again this year.
  17. So basically what they are saying then is that Can't doesn't have any answers this spring???
  18. Lee Owens: "Butchie, I want you to run the draw play."Butchie: "But Coach, its 3rd and 7"Lee Owens: "I KNOW! That's the point! They'll never expect it!"Butchie: "But Coach, no one had covered Lavel Bailey all game. I can hit him for a first down no sweat."Lee Owens: "Butchie, never underestimate the element of surprise!"Butchie: But Coach...we run that Goddamn 3rd and 7 draw play every MF-ing game. Everyone knows it's comin'. Hell...those drunk Mf-ers in the endzone are screaming 'DON"T RUN THE DRAW PLAY' at the top of their lungs! Just let me throw it to Lavel!!"Lee Owens: "Draw play to Chris Rooney. Run it or I'll put in Gromek."Announcer: "...and a loss of 2 yards for the Zips brings up a 4th and 9."
  19. Of the Zips on this years roster here are the guys I could see translating to the NFL.Andy Alleman-Strong as a bull and would make an excellent interior lineman prospect for NFL teams. Probably a day 2 pick next year.Alex Allen-Good size and running style could get him a look at RB at the next level. Has a few years to pan out.Zack Anderson-Will likely have prototypical size by the time he comes out. How well he does over the next few years will have a major impact on his ability to play at the next level.Jabari Arthur-If he has any sort of decent hands at all he will get at least a UDFA look.Tim Crouch-Experienced starter with good size. Should at least get a UDFA look next year.Luke Getsy-Getsy probably won't be much more that practice squad fodder but he could get some camp invites.Kiki Gonzalez-Has the ability to take on multiple blockers and is very productive against the run. With a lot of teams going to the 3-4 defense lately look for him to get onto a roster as either a DE or NT prospect in one of those defenses.Kris Kasparek-If he can continue with the pace he had last year I wouldn't be surprised to see him in camp with someone if not drafted. Guys with his size who can sit down in a seam and keep the chains moving are a valuable comodity.Dennis Kennedy-Probably nothing more than a UDFA or tryout player status in his future but he could warrant a look fromsomeone.John Mackey-Decent size, productive and he is versatile in the defensive backfield. Could be highly valuable to a team as a backup secondary player.Jermaine Reid-Big, pass rushing DE's are hard to come by. Reid could well fit that role. There are probably other young guys like Jackson or Hakes that we just don't yet know enough about to make a judgement on but those guys listed above all have a legit shot. Jabari probably has the potential to go highest b/c of his unique size and speed. Like I said if he has any sort of hands he'll get quite a bit of attention.
  20. I love it when he says that Leftwich and Pennington didn't have a squadron of recievers to throw to. Some guy named Randy Moss played with Pennington at Marshall if I remember right. I think he turned out ok.
  21. Its pretty well documented that the QB they were looking hardest at was Vince Young. Neither of the two other elite QB's (Lienart or Cutler) were even in for a visit. Owner Randy Lerner commented the other day that when they were going around debating prospects in the war room that Bernie Kosar actually said something to the effect of "he plays his best in the last 5 minutes of the game." Lerner said that through all the muddle that that summed it up right there. I don't think Cutler was ever really a serious option.
  22. Same thing happened with Jay Cutler (Denver's 11th pick). He said right after he was drafted that he hadn't heard from Denver at all, praticularly in the weeks leading up to the draft. Shannahan confirmed that they had not contacted Cutler for any interviews or anything of that sort. Risky proposition for Denver in that your not quite sure what your getting but if thats what they want to do.
  23. Harrington coming to Cleveland (though it doesn't look likely) would have no effect on Frye. Rumor has it that Dilfer is on the outs with Offensive Coordinator Mo Carthon and may be traded. Harrington in that case would likely be brought in as a backup which is all he is ever going to be anymore in the NFL. Detroit ruined him worse than Cleveland screwed up Tim Couch. The kids psyche must be shot and he has taken a lot of bad hits due to that offensive line.
  24. Andy Alleman will be drafted next year. Take it to the bank. I tried telling them that at the bank today but they seemed very confused. I repeated it a couple of times and they threatened to call the cops on me. Not sure why.
