Cole Stoudt (the HS senior, not the JUCO) to... WYOMING?!?!!? http://www.scoutingohio.com/index.php/view...p;name=Cole1818

What could have been done with you season ticket $
xu9697 replied to MaxZIP's topic in Akron Zips Football
If you want to feel a little better= your $$$ is still supporting UA's other sports in a round about way. -
Say all you want about dual threats...Ianallo is probably NOT going to look at that type of player. ND has 3 freshman QBs right now. Ianallo and Powlus have a relationshp with those guys. Could see one of those guys in the future, but that would AT LEAST be 2 years away.
-
If parking= what a waste. Here is an opportunity to build something that is good for students AND good for Infocision visitors (insert joke here).
-
I don't remember his name, but we are getting a good DL from Michigan State that will have one year left. He ran afoul of the law, so Ianallo is willing to take some risks.
-
I completely disagree about the style. Pro or spread can be succesful if you have the right talent, good coaching and good execution.
-
Let me first say that I have been a supporter of his, and by benching him I: A. Have not given up hope completely (though have more doubts now than ever) B. Don't think you "ruin" him. Looking at the whole picture: Nicely is obviously struggling. He is not seeing things (as evidence by the horrific pick 6 TD) and making poor choices (the "fumble push"). Having him sit and watch can, and has, helped young QBs at times. If Ianallo presents it to him correctly, it doesn't have to mean the end of his starting career here. It could give him a chance to see things that he may not be seeing while he was out there. It may give him a chance to understand the offense a bit better within the game. As for Rodgers and why the timing is right= he ran well against OU, our competition for this week. OU is also the team that injured him= give him a chance to play against the team that took him out. He is a year removed from the injury, and most "experts" say it takes at least a year to heal. Team needs a boost. Team needs something different to see out there on the field. Team is coming off a loss to its rival. I can't imagine a more perfect time during THIS season to give Rodgers a chance (and, inherently, to maybe give Nicely a chance to take-it-all in).
-
FYI= Stoudt is completing 59% with 8 TDs and 3 picks in JUCO ball. Nicely completed 55% with 6 TDs and 6 INTs as a freshman last year. My point: looks like solid COMPETITION, but certainly isn't tearing up the JUCO ranks. Nicely looks to be regressing..and I wonder how much is on him and how much is on the coaching staff, losing every experienced WR except LaFrance, etc. His pick 6 throw out of the endzone might have been the worst pass I have ever seen a QB throw.

Coincidence that he originally decided on attending Northern Illinois and leaves the week after we get demolished by...Northern Illinois?

Hey Coach... Any news on out of conference home opponents for 2011? Just about every other MAC school is set.

Is watching Miami (OH)'s "turnaround" comforting...
xu9697 replied to xu9697's topic in Akron Zips Football
Miami is now 3-2. Buffalo was terrible before Turner Gill..and pretty damn bad in his 1st year. Temple was terrible before Al Golden...and pretty damn bad in his 1st year. It is hard to step back and not have the mentality of "here we go again, Akron". But there are 3 recent examples of coaches who needed at least a 2nd year for true progress to really show. -
Only from some on here. Zips were predicted to finish last in the MAC East, remember.

They hate Art b/c he is Jewish.

Here is how I look at it. IMHO, Indiana is better than Minnesota, Illinois and Iowa State. No, that is not saying much. But NIU went 1-2 against those teams (and we lost to Indiana). Typically I am not one to look too much at "this team beat this team, so we can beat this team" kind of stuff. But the fact is if NIU is so superior, at worst they should have won 2 of those 3. Those are some bad BCS teams right there. Heck, Syracuse might be better than all 3 as well..though doesn't do much for any argument since we sucked against them. If Akron does everything the same as last week, but makes 2-3 more plays, they win the game. Now, whether you think they can do that...whole different story. I see Akron losing 31-24. But I think winning is much more POSSIBLE after seeing them last week. Heck, I had them at 6-6, maybe 7-5 this year...and being 1-3 going into this game. Next 2 weeks are huge. Find a way to win those games, or even just one of them, and this season might start to look a lot better.

Seems like a perfect time to celebrate it. You know, with the huge homecoming crowd and all.

Sorry to bring OSU into the conversation, but OSU had a QB named Steve Bellisari about 9 years ago. I am convinced that, had he played Safety at OSU, you would be watching him on Sundays (or would have watched him for at least 6-7 years). I have seen D'Orazio a couple times in person, seen highlights of him, read some things about him. From everything I have seen and read, this kid would be all-MAC at safety VERY early in his career. Not saying he cannot be a QB, but not sure if that is his best position. Just last year, we had a kid named Devoe Torrence who was projected to be an All-American linebacker, but he chose instead to line up as a RB behind several established veterans. Then he quit the team. His issues seem to be deeper than where to play on the football field.

Looked over 2011 potential FBS opponents. I might have missed a few (but looked over MANY), but if your assumption is that 1 FBS team will come here (along with 1 FCS team), here is what you are looking at... ULM (Louisiana-Monroe), Middle Tennessee, North Texas and Arkansas State are the most likely teams. Utep would be a possiblity, but only if they want to travel for a 3rd OOC game. Houston has a lot of space...little help from Mack? Rutgers, Syracuse and Iowa State are the most plausible BCS opponents that MIGHT come here next year.
-
I would say we seem to be struggling with scheduling, b/c a majority of FBS teams (including most MAC schools) have their non-conference schedule set for 2011. We still have @ OSU and @ UC with no home games scheduled. For 2011, besides the FCS game, probably looking at another Big East team (since they sometimes struggle to find a 5th non-con game) or one of WAC teams that might be left out in the cold..though I think they are a couple years away from real scheduling/conference issues.
-
Right on! The "pay day" and FCS games are pretty clear= they are here to stay. So the other 2 can simply be.."If you want a 1 for 1 with us, we will play you". Key will be making sure, if we schedule a 1 for 1 with a BCS team, the 1st game is either here (unlikely) or the buyout is huge (like $1 million!!). As the program/team gets better (whenver that might be), you can drop the FCS game and add in another 1 for 1 with a FBS (BCS or non) that is willing to do it.

Any team can do this...but catch both TDs and we are at 31 points. Don't let Indiana get 23 yards on 2nd and 30..and they don't score that TD. Boom..31-28 Zips. Yeah, it is not that simple..but in some ways it is. Props to skip-zip (I think) in recognizing that Gary Pride could be a playmaker if given the opportunity. I think the coaches FINALLY worked to Nicely's strengths in this game. His downfield accuracy lacks at times, no doubt. But he fired those out passes with zip and accuracy tonight. Plus, rolling him out/moving the pocket a bit was well done once or twice. Wagner= nice player. Very nice. But I don't think he is ever going to be the type of LB that "blows things up". Just not sure if he has the size (or the body frame) to get that big. Yes, small LBs have wreaked havoc in the history of football. He obviously is not the problem. Indiana's QB and receiving corps are no joke. I watch them enough to know. They will move the ball and put up points on good teams. Their downfall will be getting the tough yards and stopping the run. That is why they probably are looking at 2-3 wins in the Big Ten. This game, at the very least, should give us some hope. There were a lot of good things. Facing Northern Illinois= well, they pretty much are the equivalent of what Indiana is= a bottom tier Big Ten team (win Minnesota, Illinois and Purdue).

at all to Zips fans? Should it be? OK..it is early for him and Miami, but Haywood has that team at 2-1 this year after a 1-11 season to start. He was known as a recruiter (not as well known as Ianallo in that regard), has changed Miami from some form of the spread to some form of the I-formation/pro set. He worked under many coaches and at many programs without leading a program. He is about the same age as Ianallo, and, of course, both worked together under Weiss. Biggest differences= he was an OC at ND for a few years (though I think Weiss was REALLY the OC) and he did play Division 1 football at ND. Question mark= not sure what he has done with the D..not sure what they played before Haywood vs. now.

When Jalil Carter is not starting somewhere, there is at least a little "proof" to your opinion. Perhaps this staff is just accustomed to seeing BCS talent (even if it was not the best at ND, Illinois, Tennessee, etc.) to let go a little and understand the kids in the MAC IN GENERAL are just not as talented. Talent evaluation at a lower level might just be lacking. Who the hell knows right now?!!?!?
