I think it's interesting that we went from small guards like Dials/Joyce/Middleton/Roberts, to predominately big guards, and now we're returning to small guards.

You need a hair shirt. You come off as either being on the Bowden family payroll, or having a last name that rhymes with Fisterspill.
-
Keep in mind that Dave finds wallpaper paste a bit on the spicy side, Lee.

Roll call - who's heading to Charleston?
Captain Kangaroo replied to MDZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I think there will be more Zips fans in Charleston on the 20th than there will be at InfoCision on the 18th. It will be interesting to see if the Zips basketball team can hold USC to fewer points than the football team can hold UMass. -

Getting him to sign was apparently not a slam-dunk -

I think that was my biggest disappointment of the night. Between Gladden, Cheatum, Jackson and the two Fr. guards, I was hoping to see some glimpse of "wow-factor." Instead, everyone had a pedestrian effort. It's early...we'll see how Friday goes. -

It looked like a bunch of true and redshirt freshman playing without a coach. And that's what it was. Hopefully the youngsters catch on quickly, or Tree will blow a fuse in mid-December.. -
You could...but it would be a really poor argument. Frye will collect an NFL pension. Pohl will not sniff an NFL camp.
-
Then it certainly wouldn't have been fair for Bowden to put him in.

To these Elton Alexander points I can say the following: 1.) They are the same point. Looks like he's just trying to fill space. 2.) The only person who thought this Zips receiving corp was "one of the top receiving corps in the nation" was Elton Alexander. And I'll assume rocks of crack and a butane torch were somehow involved in the thought process. 3.) The only person who advertised the Zips WR's as "good" was EA. D'Orazio is good. LT Smith is ok. The rest are average-to-below average...and that's by MAC standards. Bowden needs to find some outside WR's, and pray that Alexander is something special at RB next year. We need offensive playmakers in the worst way.

It's played out. People need to take it to WebMD.com...this site is for discussing Zips athletics. At least there is now a dedicated thread to the subject, and the other threads won't get hijacked by it. Maybe this is the solution. Thanks JZ84.

Nope. Baseball and basketball. I played endless football as a kid. Last tackle football game was at age 26 in the local Thanksgiving "Turkey Bowl." Absolutely loved the game. Still do. But I was never hit by someone like James Harrison in his prime. That might have changed my love for the game. That all said - I am tired of the concussion conversation.
-
I don't know what topic I'm more tired of hearing...ebola or concussions. Probably concussions.
-
Sounds like good ref-razzing material for whatever's left of the AK-Rowdies.
-
I'm skeptical.
-
Bickley had a concussion last week. Don't know his status for this week.

Here are a few recruiting-related tidbits I recently stumbled across. Jacob Harrison, the 2016 QB recruit was offered early after a standout performance at the Zips summer Camp. Milwee apparently loves him, and Jacob likes the opportunity to be a passing QB in such an air-centric offense. Donterio Fowler and Jason Williams are both in Prep Schools and expected to enroll at UA next year. Matt Blaha, the 6' 4" 365 lb OL prospect recently spotted on the Zips sideline, is indeed walking-on with the Zips. Jerry Klue, the Medina/Northwestern DB...we hardly knew ye. He has already left the team. The "soft verbal" of Ronnie Hoggins is more porous than ever. Don't expect to see him in a Zips uniform. Shipman, Dixon, Dunkleberger and Jan Johnson remain solid verbals. The confirmed transfer list for the 2015 season includes: Jamal Marcus (Ohio State) TreVon Chapman (Ashland/Pitt) Larry Hope (Miami Fl) Rodney Coe (Iowa State) Donnell Alexander (Colorado State) Demarco Haynes (5' 8", 160lb WR - Northern Michigan) AJ Coney (Weber State) Travonte Junius is a 2015 grey shirt, as is K'von Wilson. Look for 6' 4" TE Josh McNeil at Tuesday night's BGSU game. This well-traveled, highly-recruited TE will be having an official visit with the Zips. Hopes are high that he'll be in the Blue and Gold next fall. BJ Bonner is another recruit high on the Zips list. Lunch time's over. Apologies up front for any typos. More updates will follow!

When "What's Kyle Pohl's status?" is considered a "tough question," I laugh.
-
It isn't a tough question. It is the most basic, elementary piece of information on the mind of every Zips football fan - Is Kyle Pohl healthy, and if so, when will he return? Why no mention of his health progress? Has he lost his job to Woodson? This is basic, basic stuff. If you are interviewing an NCAA Division 1 Head Football Coach you address this issue. Remember on Bewitched when Darrin #1 got replaced by Darrin #2? And everyone knew it was a different Darrin, but Samantha acted like it was the same guy? That's what I feel like...there's a new starting QB and everyone is pretending like nothing happened.
-
And we have a winner for "Understatement of the Millennium."
-
How can a Division 1 starting QB be out due to injury, and it isn't even mentioned on the team's coach show? What kind of bush league production is it? Ok, I know the answer to that question.
-
Interesting that the Coach's Show made no reference to Pohl. That means Woodson is the starter. Not due to injury either.

Keener - you need to listen to Dave in Green's advice on following college athletics.
