  1. Another thing I noticed about Bowden that is really unique is - he has embraced the program, warts and all. When he discusses the recent Zips football history, it's always "We haven't won more than 1 game in each of the past 2 seasons...we haven't had this/that...we...." If you didn't know better you'd think he'd have been the coach during those bad times? I love the fact that he has never said a bad word about the previous staff...nor has he avoided discussion of our problems. His point of view is absolutely perfect for supporters of the program. Honest, realistic, dedicated and optimistic. The guy is 100% a Zip. I think it's awesome. It was interesting to hear Chisholm speak about Bowden last night. "He's a stand up guy," "He'll tell you the truth,"He's always positive and never puts you down," "He really knows football"...it doesn't take an optometrist to read between the lines and see he was comparing his previous season's experience to this one. Everything is going positive, except the wins. And the winning begins Saturday.
  2. 3-9...1-11...1-11...0-2...that equals 5-33. If a Zips fan attended a game over the past 3.2 season, there was an 86% chance that they would witness a loss. So "yes," some form of payment would probably help a little. Free beer is also acceptable currency. You can blame student or fan apathy for the JAR being filled only to 65% capacity on most game days. But blame UA Athletics for InfoCision being filled to 10% capacity. You live by Ianello...you die by Ianello.
  3. I wouldn't worry about it. The Zips will be lucky to draw 6k for this one. The attendance-inflating "Band Day" will make 6k possible...until just after halftime, when they all leave. Son's baseball game means a mid-first quarter arrival for us...I guess I will enjoy my first non-smuggled beer in InfoCision Stadium this week.
  4. For fun, compare our stats from the 2011 game to last Saturday's tilt. While the final scores were relatively close, that's about the only stat that was remotely similar....
  5. Isn't he the same guy that told us "Mark my words....watch out for Bryan Hipsher...that kid has NBA written all over him"?
  6. The team played very well Saturday. Very exciting game. To force OT on a team that was favored to win by 23 points is a HUGE step forward. A QB that can throw 5 TD's in a game? Last season we had one that struggled to throw 5 COMPLETIONS in a game. Zips football is fun once again. 95% of the fans have the Zips backs and are going to be obnoxious on their behalf Saturday. The other 5%? Don't waste your time on them.
  7. This is as much a "must win" as any game the Zips have had in quite a while. No way Bowden loses at home to a 1-AA team. I expect a relatively easy, fun 41-16 Zips victory. What a gauntlet for the following 5 weeks...Tennessee, Miami, BG, OU, NIU...there's not a single gram of glucose or sucrose in the bunch, let alone an entire cupcake.
  8. Hilarious post. Thanks for getting my weekend off to a great start! Somehow I have to believe Kansas can fill some of the time slot on Thursday. Miami Fl is good for a couple hours. Can Bill Muse be referenced for his ground-breaking antics back in the mid-80's, or is that too Akro-centric?
  9. You know a program's in bad shape when it makes me feel good about the Zips' recent state-of-affairs.
  10. I just hope The Diff between our score and FIU's is less than that of the Temperature vs. Dew Point. What is the money line on the Temp/Dew Point?
  11. Lots of jokes in that one. But I can't take the low-hanging fruit...not my style.
  12. The Nittany Lions don't want any part of YSU.
  13. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
  14. Like last season, we will track the different beers consumed on Zips game day. Hopefully we can top last year's total. Ex-pats are welcome to submit beers, as long as they are drinking them while listening to, or watching the Zips games. I.e.: If you had a beer while watching Ohio State from your couch...it doesn't apply here. No drinks besides beer will be added. If the kids want to begin a 2012 root beer list, I'm happy to keep track.
  15. KeenerCamâ„¢ shows an empty Lot 9!? Let's pick it up guys!!! See you around 4pm!
  16. You can tell these were well done because after viewing all of them, I think we just might not be too bad this year?
  17. My Game Day prediction: Yuengling in 20 oz. plastic cup outsells everything else combined.
  18. I would bet Proenza launches a national search via a committee...and tells The Guy the Hired Ianello and then Botched Paul Winters to stay as far away as possible.
  19. One day, when the pain goes away, that would be a funny parody video to create.
  20. You can only pay so much for a soccer coach. Spending-wise, $300k goes pretty far in the Akron area. At some point, a pro team will pay more money. I am sure any move would be more about taking-on a bigger challenge on a higher level than making a few more dollars.
