Out-of-Town rules are as follows - To qualify for a listed "Tailgate" beer, said beer must be drank - #1 - On a Zips Game Day #2 - Pre-, during or Post-game (1hr post-game limit) #3 - While somehow participating in a Zips Game Day festivity, including but not limited to - a.) Actively reading ZipsNation (ie. a Game Day thread) b.) Watching the Zips on TV or Webcast c.) Listening to Frenchy IMPORTANT: In the event no form of Zips contact is available, you can bypass 3a, 3b and 3c by saying "Gerry Faust" before your 1st sip, or uttering a minimum of one full sentence in an audible "Gerry Faust Voice." Note -- Rules #1 and #2 still apply. Note - These rules only apply to individuals living outside of reasonable driving distance to a Zips home game. "Locals" are expected to be drinking in a parking lot!

I think most people thought Solich was too old (to be a successful HC after Nebraska). Or too drunk. It just happens that most people were wrong.

Because Nicely's hit the wide receivers in the hands, and Moore's either sail over their head, or bounce at their feet? Because Sconiers and Russell were Freshmen last season with Nicely, and they're somewhat-improved Sophomores now. :P

Does that mean you pass on him as a head coach at this point in time? Or does that mean that, regardless of whatever he accomplishes outside of UA, you would NEVER want to see him back at his alma mater as a HC? I have to believe that ship has sailed. If here were going to be hired, it would have been immediately after Brookhart. He's in his mid-50's now.

How'd you feel after watching mediocre Toledo nearly beat Ohio State? I'm sorry...49-0 at the half...nothing can make me feel better about that.

Odd, for a Military program? Certainly helpful for the Zips. -
He's back home where he belongs.Do you know something that you're not at liberty to be specific about?Breaking news -- I'm told he will be on the Zips bench this season.

Zips Nation in Arizona?

I spend a few weeks in Fountain Hills every year...probably be out there again around Christmas. -
One odd thing about the Outing...Nick Dials was there. Was that a conflict of interest?

I won't be there until around 1:45pm, but should have a couple extra tickets. If you are around/underneath the Lot 9 scoreboard area at that time, I will cut you an excellent deal. Hope to see you Saturday. The Lot 9'ers are a good crew. I recommend you stop by and say hello. Many will be there before 10am. :wave:Addition: Here is a post I made on another site in response to a Temple fan asking a similar question. It contains a link to a ginormous area map that you might find helpful.

Didn't he earn a Chemical Engineering degree in something like 3 years? He's too smart to return here.

The low-hanging fruit would be to make some snarky comment about how the Zips play resembles that seen during the summer's runaway success story - Women's Football 101. But that would be unfair to the ladies, and I cannot stoop to that level. Instead I will offer the following, unrelated perspective:When Ianello arrived on campus, one of the first things he did was cancel the football golf outing. Without beating a dead horse, I will simply say that the football golf outing was a great fellowship-event that annually brought over 120 Zips football fans together for a great June day party. The University made a couple bucks off the deal, and everyone left with a good feeling about the program. In killing the event, Ianello took a big step in alienating some people. Not just me, but a lot of people. That's all well and good, if the guy is winning. But he lost a great venue to build relationships with some of the biggest Zips Football supporters. Those people that might have gotten to know him on a personal level now have nothing to judge him on other than he's a guy who replaced a successful golf outing with a women's powder puff game. And a guy who loses over 90% of his games. So why bring it up? Simply because I attended the Mens' Basketball Golf Outing this week, and had a great time. I got to meet all the coaches, ask questions, talk some hoops, see some old friends, make a few new friends, and toss a few dollars the University's way. Over 120 of the UA Basketball supporters in attendance had a great day, got primed for the upcoming season, and feel like they have a personal relationship with the team and staff. Forget the records of the respective gridiron or hardwood teams...one coach is like Howard Hughes, and the other... well... I'll just say he openly cares about those who support his program. Ianello is getting a lot of heat from a lot of directions, and while it's easy to blame Brookhart or whatever other scapegoat you choose...the fact that he's taken an "Us Against the World" attitude, instead of embracing the fans, has undeniably shortened his tolerance leash.Regarding the Cincinnati game -- Anyone who could spin Clayton Moore's performance into anything positive is really smoking some of Portage County's finest home-grown. Three turnovers that resulted in instant Bearcat TD's?! Are you serious? FIVE total turnovers? Thank God he lit up the Bearcat walk-ons in the 4th quarter or he might have had the worst all-time QB performance in Zips history.Chisholm had an outstanding game, considering the circumstances. He's one of the handful of players that give me a pin-point sized glimmer of hope for the future. But I have no clue why he was on the field late in the game. We need to begin developing a #2 back.49-0 at the half harkens memories of some of the early Owens games against Miami and Travis Prentice. I think they had us down by 50 points at the half once, maybe twice? The 34-0 1st quarter against Iowa also came to mind...maybe even the 51-3 Brookhart game against Virginia. Regardless, the 49-0 halftime scroll across the bottom screen of televisions nationwide was as low as it gets for a Zips football fan.The redshirt pulling in the Cinci game also reminded me of Owens putting true freshman Greg Gromek in at QB after an 0-7 start to the season. That was Owens' "I'M F'ING FED UP" point. One can only hope that Ianello has realized sticking with his "process" is fiddling while Rome burns, and it's time to at least attempt to form a bucket brigade and get a couple wins by any means possible.Russell and Sconiers both has statistically nice games. Then again, their numbers were put up while the Cincinnati 1st and 2nd teamers were playing X-Box in the training room, scarfing down some Skyline 6-way Chili and lining up their Saturday night dates. Burning a tuba player for a 49-yard TD really isn't all that impressive. The football team did out-score the soccer team this week. God Bless Gozips19 for adding 4 beers to our tailgate list, and providing the great Game Day re-cap. Excellent job. There is no amount of points the Zips can beat VMI by this week that will have any effect on ZipsNation's opinion of Ianello. Barring a loss, opinions will formed on October 1st against EMU. And a final note - When I see all the Freshman and Sophomores playing for the Zips, one part of me realizes we shouldn't expect to win many games in 2011. One part of me says "We're in the MAC, and even a terrible team should win 4 games." And another part of me poses the question: "Did Ianello really need to drive all those kids away from the Program? Was his 'scorched earth' policy necessary?" The overriding thought, however, is -- "It's time to start competing, and time to start some winning."See everyone Saturday. Baseball game ending at 1:30pm means my tailgate beer contribution will be minimal yet again. I think next season we'll have a Kid's Root Beer Challenge?

My mom (YSU grad) gets her YSU gear at Kohls in Youngstown. Is there Zips gear sold at any Kohls in the Akron area? I have never seen any @ the Macedonia or Stow locations.

No one from UA has probably ever approached them to sell Zips products.

I work quite a bit with ISO processes. ISO Certification is absolutely necessary if we are to sell product to anyone. QS Certification is required if we are to sell to the Automotive industry. These processes are all a bunch of crap. The certifications assure nothing but that we follow a consistent process. The process could be horribly flawed, but as long as we follow it, and document that we follow it, then the Auditors are happy and our certification is renewed.I believe Ianello has a process. And there is no doubt that he will stick to that process come hell or high water. My only hope that he can adapt came last week when he pulled several red shirts. It was the first time he's shown he was tired of getting absolutely waxed. Until that point, he has shown that he's favored his process over scoreboard. I can't ignore the first 3 games. They were an abomination, regardless of the opponent. We didn't even see the red zone until 11 quarters into the season?! No one expected to win, but we were flat-out embarrassing. To quote Animal House: "This party has reached an all-time low."Turning around Akron Football requires a special person, with outside-the-box thinking and some level of genius. An unimaginative Process Guy is not what we need. Ianello needs to change his process. Running clock and kicking field goals when you're down 14 points is a horribly flawed process. Our only hope was 49-0 woke him up. I doubt it did, but it's a Zips fan's only hope.

Will the Zips Pick Up Their First Victory

Chisholm is tired from being run into the ground @ Cincinnati. Disciplined Keydet defense gives impotent Zips offense fits. Zips win 22-10. Yippee. -
You build success with great people. With visionaries. With calculated risks. With money, spent wisely. With intestinal fortitude. The Zips spent a ton of cash on a football practice facility and a stadium, and thought that was all that was necessary. There's a reason Notre Dame has sucked for two decades -- it's more than money.I assume I will be dead before the Zips figure out a way to be competitive at any level of D1 football again. It's too easy to be cheap, unimaginative, short-sighted, low-aiming, and K.e.n.t.-esque. Good old K.e.n.t....they suck, so why should we try to be better? Let's play them in the Toilet Bowl every season, and hope for a win or two against 1-AA programs. Yippee.Losing 23-of-27 sucks. Does anyone else care?
