  1. The VCU Frosh doesn't play too much (yet, at least). The VCU site says he's their 1st 7-footer in a decade. VCU's impact guys are the 6' 9'ers.Without belaboring a point...Zeke is a gift. I don't expect KD to pull another 7-footer off the street any time soon. KD doesn't seem to go for the "project" type players (a la John Edwards). It would be great to get one or two 6' 9" bangers.
  2. We still need a center..not another undersized PF.I am not disappointed in this at all. I hope KD will go out there and find a true big now.I forget...how tall were Butler and VCU's centers? Butler had a 6' 11" kid that played about 20mpg, and Matt Howard was 6' 8".VCU didn't have any 7-footers.KD needs to find another rebounding machine. Then we're set.
  3. I like your thoughts, and I'm not trying to be a dick here, but I think many of these points have a counter-point:1. Jawon Chisholm - looks like he has all-mac talentMaybe Ianello's best recruit thus far. While I've never seen him play, everything points to him being the real deal.2. Anthony Holmes - Going to be a very solid db...all mac potentialMaybe. Too soon to say. 3. Tyler Williams - Is going to be the most explosive player the zips have had in over a decade.I've watched his all star games, and he looks great amongst some very highly-touted BCS recruits. He could win us some games with his kick return ability alone.4. Antoine Russell - Showed flashes as a true freshman and I think he will be much improved this year. He'll need to improve. I didn't see many flashes last season. 5. Nick Rossi - a top 10 ILB recruit in the nation.Excited about him. I dream of having TWO Brian Wagner's at LB this season.6. Keith Sconiers - Another highly touted receiver that looks like the real deal. He'll need to improve. I didn't see many flashes last season.7. Zack D'Orazio - Another solid athlete that looked damn good in the spring for being a freshman.Brookhart recruit. 8. Nico Caponi - Solid D line player as a freshman and played well this spring.Brookhart recruit.9. John Griggs - His video looks like he is a long, lean and explosive pass rusher unlike we have seen at UA in a while.A lot of Brookhart recruits had great videos...and then disappeared. I gotta wait a while before I put Griggs on any top-recruit lists.10. Andrew Bohan - Solid and well rated OL that played well in both of the post season all star games against very high talent.I agree he has a lot of potential. And we really need OL's.11. Clayton Moore - SEC talent that is very intriguing and adds much needed depth to the position.Agreed. Nicely needs pushed...and Ianello needs a quality fall-back option if Nicely falters. Rogers never fit that bill.12. Kyle Pohl - Another highly touted young QB that looked the part in the All Star game.Time will tell. It's tough to grade a coach's recruits when said coach has a re'sume' of only 2 classes. And 1 season played. Hopefully our OL is decent, some WR's emerge (BIG question mark), Williams scores us 4 or 5 special teams TD's and Chisolm is the real deal. That's 5 wins, and I'm a believer.
  4. Great Lakes Science Center League? Glue Licking Scrotal Cossack Libertarians?Gumby Lowenstein Says Carpaccio Liebfraumilch? You gotta give me a hint before I can vote.
  5. Come on Dave, you know TV wasn't invented yet when you were a child! Hell..."talkies" weren't yet invented.
  6. Preseason stuff is worthless. SID's send out their .pdf's and highlight films and the "watch lists" print some inane listing of 90 guys.Dwight Smith was 1st Team All American despite playing on a bad Zips team. Hopefully #34 has a great year and gets some meaningful post-season accolades too. It can be done.
  7. I will give RACER his props for answering the question here. How many 2010 Zips are in the MLS? How many women's players are in the MLS? Do you think, if there was a woman who could compete at the MLS level, that a team would draft her?Dr. Z's original question - "Could an elite boys HS team, or Prep Academy team, beat the US Woman's World Cup Team?" is more debatable. More controversial, but more debatable.
  8. You've never been to the Winking Lizard?I heard there's a new restaurant called "Applebee's" in the area too. Anyone ever heard of it?
  9. Good ideaToo bad there isn't any watering hole in the CSU vicinity. Is The Rascal House still open?Everything near The Q is a serious walk to the Wollstein center...at least in Cleveland, during the winter, it can be pretty rough.Tailgate Party, anyone?
  10. I know it brother. I saw an epic post some Kool Aid chugging guy posted in the O$U thread. THAT guy's gotta start focusing on the Zips!
  11. The old-timers here frequently write about the Mackey-Huggins, McFadden/McLughlin era. It now seems to be back, in a big way. I see the Zips/CSU tilt this year being an 8k+ crowd...with maybe even 10k being possible. Absolutely electric environment. The Cleveland media will push it hard. It's fun to see two really strong, NCAA Tourney-caliber basketball programs in NE Ohio again. K.e.n.t.'s still slightly visible in the rear-view mirror...but they're fading fast.
  12. Are all the gravel UA lots getting paved? Or just this one?
  13. A lot of families have Saturday morning sporting events to attend with their kids, so later game starts are nice. The 7am tailgate starts were fun when the Zips were competitive...but not so much lately.
  14. $246,000 to resurface the entire lot? What a steal. Of course it begs the questions, why pave a lot that is essentially unused on game days...and where's this quarter-million dollars coming from?Paved or not, I don't care. As long as I have a place for a couple tables, a tent and a cooler, I'm satisfied. At least the empty lot will look nicer from Exchange Street.
  15. BuckZip is the Kobayasi of Kool-Aid
  16. He's 17 years old. Do you think he can bulk-up a little? Also - Since he's played DE and TE in high school, I have to believe his 200lbs is distributed a little differently than my 200lbs. Knowing very little about the kid other than stats and press clippings, I predict some very clean glass at the JAR between 2012-2016.
  17. Anyone else follow Howard Stern, and remember Dr. Remulak?
  18. I would disagree. At 6' 5", and judging from is Jr season stats, being from Dunbar, the kid isn't a project. He's ready to rebound now.6' 5" is a really common size in the MAC. For him to commit in July means we really wanted him. I'd expect a double-double average from him in his upcoming senior HS season. I know KD has been searching for "The Next Wood/Travis" for a couple years. Akbar looks to fit the bill.
  19. Interesting that he played football, at DE and TE. Listed at 6' 3" 225lbs as a HS Soph, so I guess I'll believe the 6' 5" height being published today.Vs. Buchtel - 16 reboundsCould he be The Next Jeremiah Wood? We'll know after his redshirt season, I guess.
  20. And Owens. I don't personally know anyone who views our athletic success in a positive light during his tenure.Hey, he wasn't the one who hired Crawford or Faust. Give him a break.
  21. You must absolutely love racer's posts.
  22. Just a short note as I put my moderator hat on for the first time in about a year --1.) Talk politics in another forum. Talk Zips in this forum.2.) It takes two to tango. If someone post something political in a Zips forum, and another member responds, and the Zips-related topic is derailed, the responder is equally at fault as the originator. Do you really need to defend your politics in a thread discussing Patrick Nicely or Zeke? Really? Would anyone die if you just let it go?Thanks,CK
