  1. If anyone finds cheap tourney ticket deals, post them here. I know...Verizon in Macedonia...🙃 (I actually did get free tickets there a few years back).
  2. After a paint gun fight. Is the soccer program jumping to another conference? 😈
  3. Like it better than script Akron already.
  4. A separate sheet detailing the same information for preferred walk-ons would also be helpful.
  5. Best MAC referees ever.
  6. "I'll take plantar fasciitis for 500, Alex."
  7. Groce gave Maishe Daily the longest of long leashes to get on track last season. Towards year's end, he cut his minutes. Same thing with Trimble this year. He's had an incredibly long leash for his incredibly subpar 3-point shooting year. And he brings nothing else to the table aside from his erratic, freakish 3-point potential. I remember a quote from Danny Ainge a few years back. I always felt it was one of the simplest, truest statements regarding players and playing time - "It’s not a coach’s job to give opportunities for everybody. To me, it’s a player’s job to make that coach feel like he needs you on the court to win — because every coach wants to win.” End-of-February/March is winning time. The time to ride out a player's season-long slump has expired. Dawson and Tribble give the Zips the best chance to win.
  8. Next up - improve the FT shooting!
  9. Ball is popping without Trimble. Love it.
  10. Absolutely outstanding start by the Zips.
  11. Blew the layup so it HAD to be a foul.
  12. Get to hear the announcers mispronounce Castaneda all night. Yay.
  13. I think Tennessee is a must. MSU is so close, I expect to hit that one too. Liberty is a maybe. It would be fun, but it's tough to hit all 3 major roadies. At some point the leaves need raked. Stark contrast to last year. I had ZERO desire to travel to Auburn or Ohio State.
  14. The script Akron logo makes me sad. The fact that EMU and WMU’s logos are worse, helps a tiny bit. WMU has that cool-ass Bronco, and chooses to go with a “block W” inside a circle!? Only five home games makes me sad. But three home games in October, with nearby Kent being one of the other two
and then EMU at home the following week helps a lot! 5-of-6 consecutive early fall games at, or within 9 miles of InfoCision! Joe coaching the team makes me happy. For the first time in 4 years, tailgating at InfoCision won’t be akin to putting on a brave face at a family member’s funeral. Go Zips!
  15. Meh. We replaced them with what is arguably the top starting 5 in Akron basketball history, so it wasn't a crippling loss when they departed. And, if they left Dambrot high and dry, they'd certainly have left Groce prematurely too. For fun I looked up the 2021-2022 stats for Dunn-Martin and Trimble for comparison. Surprisingly, their 3-point percentage is similar (TDM 36%, BT 34%). 3-point attempts: TDM 245, BT 180 The interesting stat is 2-point shots attempted: TDM 203, BT 47.
  16. Akron’s most prodigious Tweeter lands a gig in his home state
  17. When you never shut up you tend to make more mistakes than someone who picks their spots.
  18. No “e?”
  19. Who on this year's Zips team would start ahead of Xerius Williams, Christian-Jackson, Cheese and Banks? No one. Freeman would start over Riak. Record-wise, this Zips team is right where it should be considering its talent level. It's a good team. Not a great one.
  20. Gonna be tough...a MAC team hasn't played in it since 1996.
  21. I remember at a Zips football golf outing about 13 years ago Mack Rhoades was standing next to JD Brookhart and told the gathering - "We aren't thinking about winning the MAC, we're thinking beyond the MAC!" How'd that work out? Come next October the Zips will very likely have beaten one FBS football program (BG, twice) in the last 4 calendar years. Our basketball team is probably #4 in the MAC, and soccer is now mediocre. Conference ascension probably shouldn't be on the AD's agenda at this time. The MAC is fine. We have plenty of bowl opportunities now. And the competition is good. I'll happily settle for 4-5 football wins next season and take it from there.
  22. The year's Zips team is a flawed one. Other than Freeman, who can you bank on? Freeman - double-double every night, brings it on both ends of the floor. Plays within himself. A joy to watch, always. Ali - Too indecisive. He's at his worst when he dribbles too much. If he tries to back someone down in the paint, it's an almost guaranteed turnover. Might score 32...might score 5. Casteneda - shooting 29% over his last 4 games. Formerly a 90% FT shooter, shooting at a 60% clip over his last 7 games. Dawson - Hustles, defends, but he's a role player. Clarke - Slowly improving, but can't be counted for anything other than spot duty night-in-night-out. Aziz - Improving. But still a role-player. Tribble - He's like Dawson, but less of an offensive threat. Wynn - 8 minute per game role player, at best. Trimble - sprinkles a few stellar nights of insane 3-point shooting amongst a sea of highly forgettable 2022 efforts. Not a great defender. Can't create his own shot...just looks to hoist it from 24 feet most of the time. These are the dog days of the MAC schedule. Driving 5 hours in the snow to play a horrible Bronco team, on a Tuesday night, after a bitter home loss to your rival, can't be a party. But that's part of the deal. The championship teams fight through it. Kent, OU and Toledo are better than the Zips this year. But we can beat them on a given night. We could also lose to Duquesne if we played like we did last night. Man, that was one horrible effort in Kalamazoo.
  23. Pray that Freeman doesn’t foul out!
  24. His shooting percentage drops by 15% every second he holds the ball. He needs to be decisive! btw- Did we keep Maishe Daily or Trimble this season?
  25. Why can’t Castaneda shoot free throws anymore?
