  1. I tried to listen to them, but had to cut them all short. Listening to people who performed no research, who have zero presentation skills, and who did little else but read roster names...mispronouncing most of them...ain't for me. Arth was 2-10 last season. This team is more talented, deeper, is playing in the MAC, and our staff is P5 level. The bare minimum number in the win column for this team is 4. I'll stick with my 6-win prediction.
  2. OL Tommy Ricard - Hudson I think Joe said he's living in Hudson now, so maybe that helps with this recruit?
  3. If the taxpayers were paying enough, we'd be playing Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky this season instead of Tennessee and Michigan State.
  4. I'm normally against filling a D1 stadium via free tickets. But I think Joe and the team deserve to play in front of a capacity home crowd. It's a great way to kick off the a new era and generate some excitement in the community. Maybe jack it up to $5 next year? I think if the casual fan had fun this year, they'd come back and pay a little for it next year. Yeah, it's the "Acme-Zip mentality"...but those game days were a lot of fun.
  5. Alabama and OSU are Saudi oil fields. By comparison, MAC schools are fracking in Newcomerstown. Upper-tier P5 programs are starting their own bazillion dollar "LIV Tour." MAC schools are clipping coupons to save 50 cents the next time they play Putt Putt. @catdaddyp did an awesome job of explaining why stars are exponentially less applicable the further you slide down the college football food chain. If the Zips staff is choosing a 3-star guy over a 2-star guy simply because of stars, he's not going to be coaching for long. Quoting catdaddy - "The better players will 'pop' off the film regardless of anyone’s expertise or rating." Give me a D1 coach that knows talent when he sees it, over one that bases his recruiting on nameless star-assigners who have never coached or played, but have monetary incentive to gain views/subscribers.
  6. Thank you for starting my morning with a good laugh! Welcome to the dark side. 🤣
  7. UConn...BG...UMass? I think of those 3, BG was the better program, and they lost to the Arth-led Zips? I always like the players recruited by Army and Navy. If that is the type of kid your program is attracting, you're doing things the right way.
  8. Love the Z logo on his shirt. 😍
  9. I believe '94 was talking about Cam Wiley.
  10. Love his game, but don't need the drama. I would pass. FWIW - I've heard Cameron Wiley is the real deal.
  11. I was told the first day of practice is August 3rd. Full pads on August 9th. Scrimmage (closed to public) August 13th.
  12. As good a hire as you could hope for. The guy's got a yeoman's task ahead of him...
  13. Miami was 0-6 on the road last year. Granted the Zips have were 0-for-the-non-BG-MAC over the past 4 full seasons...but I think we have more then a puncher's chance against Miami. Buffalo was 4-8 last year. If the ball bounced the Zips way in the last minute against WMU and Ball State, the 2021 Zips are 4-8 too. I'm not betting the house on any of these games, but Moorhead will somehow get to 5 or 6 wins this season. To do it he'll need to pull a couple upsets. Maybe 5 upsets...I don't know if we'll be favored in any games outside of St Francis?
  14. St. Francis (PA) – easy win Michigan State – Loss. We aren’t ready to beat a Big 10 program in Game #2 of the Moorhead Era. Tennessee – Loss. Similar to Michigan State. Liberty – Bowden’s ULM team beat these guys last year. Why not the Zips? Probably because we don’t yet have the horses. I’ll bet on an entertaining, high-scoring game. Zips cover, but lose. Bowling Green – If Arth beat these clowns in successive seasons, the 2022 Zips roll too. Win. Ohio – These guys miss Solich. Zips win. Central Michigan – Not a MAC team the Zips want to face. We aren’t at CMU’s level yet. Loss. Kent State – Their defense blows. Joe knows what this game means to the program, and Kent will be WAY overconfident. Rivalry game, and the first signature win of Joe’s HC tenure at Akron. Win. Will the Beacon send a reporter? Miami (OH) – These guys aren’t very good, and we’ve got them at home. Zips win. Eastern Michigan – It’s @ Akron. But EMU will be favored. Heart says Zips, but head says Eagles. Loss. Buffalo – Buffalo’s falling apart. November will be quittin’ time for many of the remaining Bulls. Zips pull off a road stunner. Win. Northern Illinois – Loss. Captain’s Choice: 6-6 6 wins would be awesome, as when October 2022 rolls around, the Zips will have beaten ZERO Division 1 opponents not named Bowling Green in the previous 4 calendar years combined (Last non-BG, FBS win was October 27th, 2018 – CMU)!
  15. They needs the refs help to beat the Zips. F 🐻‘s.
  16. Stay in the MAC. Good TV availability (are there any games, aside from Point Park, that aren't on ESPN+?). Good rivalries. Easy road trips for conference games. Decent bowl tie-in's. Cheap travel costs. If your a good coach like Groce, with your program established, your chance dancing in March is at worst, 50/50. Probably better. The AAC will be completely different in 5 years...and completely different 5 years after that. The Zips sending their baseball team to Wichita? Never in a million years. And on and on and on... I wish the MAC would have accepted MTSU and WKU. It would have upgraded the conference, with minor impact to the travel budget. Those two schools are different than UMass...Temple...UCF...Marshall...all of whom were looking to leave the MAC the day after they arrived. MTSU and WKU would have been a nice, like-minded fit. The MAC has survived for 75 years. As it stands today it is perfect for the Zips. Bring on summer football camp!
  17. You never know with Akron Marketing…
  18. The logo isn’t centered, and is atop the “50”? Strange…
  19. I'll take a Miami kid like Zayden Laing-Taylor any date of the week, and twice on Sunday. He's a starter on a HS team that's the 3-time defending 5A champ in Florida. They lost twice in 2021...to Bishop Gorman (Nevada State Champ) and St John Bosco (Calif.). His HS produced James and Dalvin Cook, amongst other NFL guys. If we want to win, we need to be successful recruiting Florida and Georgia. I think Joe's off to a solid start. As a side note - with the transfer portal, are kids like this going to see fewer P5 offers out of HS? Will the MAC schools become the 1st stop for P5-level kids who don't want to sit at a P5 program for a year or two and develop? They can play in the MAC in year's #1 and 2, and then transfer with immediate eligibility for their final two seasons at P5's?
  20. Am I missing the link to the golf outing? I can't find it.
  21. Get used to it, my friend. Until the next AD comes along, you’re stuck with it. Next field turf replacement is scheduled for 2033.
  22. Your speculation is other people’s educated opinion. Be grateful they share it with you. If you want 100% rock solid info, go down to the Stiles Center and ask the coach. This isn’t Ohio State . He’d be happy to speak with you.
