One hour prior to game time per gozips.com.

Buffalo's live audio broadcast is available FREE (imagine that ...) HEREfor anyone interested. I listened to a game or two last year and their broadcasters are decent. Go Bulls (tonight).

I agree - GREAT to see so many young ones wearing Akron gear. Passionate loyalty stands a pretty good chance when you work on it when they're young. From day 1 my son and daughter have been taught that "Akron" is GOOD and everyone else doesn't really matter (especially hippie school Can't, party school OU, and THHEEEEEEE ohio state university). My kids have always had Akron gear to back it up and wear it proudly to school often. Rome wasn't built in a day - we HAVE to keep working on it! Who knows, that little comment about wearing OSU stuff may cause one or more of them to think twice next time about wearing it to an Akron game! Nice job!
-
The BIG crowds are a little like Christmas (Can't) and Easter (OU?) at church.
-
Needle - the guy calls a game like it's the Westminster dog show. I'll bet he has his nails done while he calls the game. What a puss. The refs sucked hard both ways - VERY typical MAC ref stuff. Nothing new so get over it Needle and the rest of the Can't fans. You got beat because you wore down in the second half and couldn't hang with the Zips. See you in Can't in March ...

Thanks man but why are you watching us on the tube. Come check us live and help us rock the JAR. Fatherly duties....had to watch the kids. Zips81 - BRING THE KIDS! IT'S CAN'T!?! The full house was awesome. Combine that with the job the Rowdies did on both ends of the floor with overflow upstairs and it actually felt like a big-time college basketball game! Great job Rowdies - keep those end sections full and noisy. I thought the band did a nice job too. Drum line needs to stay.

The only problem with the 640AM reception I get is nails-on-the-chalkboard BILL NEEDLE!!!! His call of a game makes me want to poke my eyes out with ice picks! Why can't WE be on 640?!?! Listening (when the signal is strong enough) to the game on a left-wing lib station also makes me want to do the ice pick thing!

tell me it wasnt bubba... Troutman I think Nope ... it WAS Bubba.

If the future football schedule holds true, Kentucky will help open the new stadium on September 12, 2009. Nice to see the baby steps happening!

No love for YSU here. I'd rather play Cleveland State. Akron 79-64.
-
My son and his friend brought back 4 coupons each (not sure where they got them) when they returned to their seats after walking around during half-time. I went down to the ticket office right at the end of half-time and redeemed the coupons for 8 Can't/Akron women's game tickets and plan to use them all. I did notice that hours were posted (pretty small) above the ticket office windows and there was notice that the ticket office would be closed the week of Christmas but would be open beginning at 3:30PM on Friday (12/29).
-
Seems to me that if you're going to schedule home games over break, the ticket office should be staffed at least a few hours each day.

Just got home from the game as well. Great college basketball game - wish we had more opportunity to watch Akron play quality opponents like Nevada on our home court. Great effort by Akron with free throws and a few too many unforced turnovers being the difference. Terrible crowd - JAR should have been packed. I also thought there could have been a bit more energy flowing from those who did attend given how close the game was and who we were playing. Kudos to Stewart (Stuart?), Rachel, and the rest of the AK-Rowdies for looking out for my son (one of the ballboys tonight) and treating him so well. We had to speak up a little bit when talking to him after the game 'cause his ears were still ringing from all of the yelling that was going on around him! He can't wait to be one of you in the fall of 2013! Time to enjoy Christmas and then get ready for Loyola Marymount. I hope we come out with the same effort and intensity and DON'T lay an egg like Can't did at home against YSU ...

RowdyZip - I've noticed a fair amount of coughing lately. You'd better have that looked at!I'm not buying the line. The athletic department has known about this game for almost a year now and they wait until the week OF the game to do something to fill the seats behind the baskets? No way. Knowing that a win tomorrow night could give us some nice national exposure and act as a nice springboard heading into the MAC portion of the schedule, they should have been all over 12/22 long ago (start of the fall semester?). Nope - they get an 'F' on this assignment and it may be a long time (how long ago did Xavier play at the JAR?) before they get a chance to try again.
-
Ditto here. My voice will be hoarse by the end of the game but they are a very good team. I wonder if Mother Nature is going to help us out by adding 6-10 hours of additional travel time to their LONG trip to Akron?
-
Yeah, I swear if we get three crap teams to start the home season off again next year, I'm going to save my time and money and buy a couple of blocks of tickets for the remainder of the schedule. I just can't STAND paying to watch those kind of tune-up games. DO IT ON THE ROAD IF YOU'RE GOING TO DO THAT!!! Damn! I just remembered that we're already guaranteed BINGHAMTON at home. Do we also get Niagara?! UGH!!!Ooops, forgot to comment on the main subject of this thread ... nope, can't bring myself to support the MAC in this case - way to go Duke!
-
Great news for the Rowdies but it took the athletic department until the week OF THE game to arrange for a full house behind the baskets?! Not that they had MONTHS to work with the Rowdies and others to make sure the JAR is full. Are the vinyl LPs ready for the national anthem, fight song, and other numbers usually played by the pep band? I wonder how many of the band members would have been willing to come WAY back into town for a game like Nevada? Did anyone in the athletic department even ask the band director about their availability? So school is out - BIG DEAL!!! Bust a little ass to make sure the atmosphere is the way that it should be! If I didn't have a frickin' day job I'd volunteer down there to do some of the leg work myself! Here's hoping the AK-Rowdies make an exception and cross the picket line for the Nevada game.

Whoa! Stop the presses. I may have posted too soon! Student enthusiasm MAY be allowed back on the floor for Nevada after all! Very recently posted on another thread ..."I just got out of a meeting with Hunter. He knows that I wrote my post on Zips Nation Last night. And Yes, He was disappointed in me for he knows I am a hard worker here for the Athletic Department. He told me if I can GARANTEE to have 164+ AK-ROWDIES members for the Nevada game he will hold the lower seats for us. He told me he would rather have 164+ of Akron's ROWDIEST students then just some Smo off the streets. So if you can send me an e-mail saying you will be there and if I get 164+ from you I will be able to get ALL of OUR seats for the lower level back for the BIGGEST game in AKRON/RHODES ARENA HISTORY. COACH D just also spoke to me he said get them back! I am calling YOU out NOW e-mail me ASAP let me know you will be a loud ROWDY fan come this FRIDAY.When You COMEBE LOUD BE PROUD FEAR THE ROO and GOOOOO ZIPS"

Akron is so giddy about a Top-25 team coming into the JAR that they are moving the students OFF of the floor behind the baskets and back upstairs in the bleacher seating well away from the action. Some twisted rationale out of our athletic department that all of the snoring emanating from the lower blue chairback seats and clear site-lines when shooting free throws will throw Nevada's game off. BRILLIANT I say!
-
.... uh, .... hmmm .... yes?

I wonder if the plan all along for the Nevada game has been to use it as a revenue generator for the cash-starved athletic department? Did they hype THE game at ALL to students and student groups (frats, sororities, etc.) the last couple of months to generate excitement and encourage students to "return" to campus to fill the JAR upstairs and downstairs on 12/22? The athletic department should have been doing everything they could during the fall semester to make DAMN sure the JAR is packed and full of excitement when the Wolf Pack walk out onto the court. My son and I were in Reno last February and that certainly was the case in Nevada's 11,000+-seat facility. Lots of LOUD students fairly close to the floor - a great atmosphere. Shame on Mack and the rest of the department if they didn't do everything possible to fill both sections of seats behind the basket with students before offering them to the general public. VERY rare opportunity to "kick it up a notch" at the JAR and the athletic department is totally missing the boat in what appears to be the pursuit of a few more dollars. The chance to FINALLY knock off a ranked opponent is worth WAY more than the few extra dollars they'll generate by selling those seats. ALWAYS a Zips fan but this kind of stuff has GOT to go. One other thought ... pissing students off now does ZERO to generate financial support in the future. My wife and two kids support Akron in the stands and financially because of my enthusiasm. My passion for and belief in Akron is laying the foundation for at least two more alumni in the future who grew up cheering for Zip athletics. Bitch-slap me enough in my full-of-piss-and-vinegar years on campus and I might have turned out just like many other Akron "alumi" who show nothing more than total apathy towards the U of A and sit at home on Saturdays cheering for the Buckeyes instead.DRAG a friend to the JAR Friday night! GO ZIPS!
