Not sure I understand why the game can't be moved to tomorrow night? A Buffalo game was delayed by a day a few weeks ago. Akron and OU both aren't scheduled to play again until Saturday (OK, OU does have to fly to New Mexico). I don't buy the bit about "Third, it was determined that Ohio and Akron’s remaining schedules do not present an opportunity for a make-up contest." I'll be leaving plenty early from Norton in an all-wheel-drive van and most likely will stop to pick up two other season ticket holders who wouldn't otherwise take the chance. Driving was slow coming home from work in Montrose but very doable if you simply slow down and leave plenty of time to get there and plenty of distance between vehicles. Bummer that we may lose some of the home-court advantage for such a fun game.

I don't know if this is 100% true, but a buddy of mine here at work said that thousands of Gator fans welcomed the Akron football team a number of years ago as they exited the bus with chants of "GATOR BAIT!!!" In my humble opinion, Bleacher Bum, I think the welcoming party you are suggesting should become part of the whole Rowdie routine for big/important games. Take every opportunity you can to get inside their heads and crawl around a little bit. Let'em know that there's more in store for them once they get inside. Many have entered in recent years searching for a win, few have left with one! I hope the rest of the Rowdies answer your call.

Just thought some of you would enjoy a little light reading while we wait for the snow and the BubbaCats to roll into town ... Bobcat B-Ball Message BoardStill enjoying the two hours of b-ball witnessed yesterday afternoon on FSN.

Boy to I feel stupid. I thought all of the coaches were wearing tennis shoes because Toledo was anal about what types of shoes could be worn on their hardwood. Whoops! Sorry for the bad guess Bleacher Bum.

As Kyle's "chaperone" (EAR MUFFS! Yeah, right ... ) and dad, thanks for adopting Kyle as one of your own. GREAT time on the bus and at Savage Hall in Toledo - so much so that he couldn't stop talking about it in the car on the way back to our house or with his mom once we got home. We had to plead the 5th to some of her questions. Mom says he can still go to the games and on road trips but I've lost my job as chaperone . Seriously, I wish there had been ANYTHING resembling what you guys have put together in two short years when I was at Akron (mid-80s). Kyle will be an official Rowdie in about six years and hopefully will help lead and build on what the rest of you are putting into place now. Thanks again for looking beyond his age and treating him with kindness and respect. He bleeds Akron Blue and Gold like the rest of you and always will. Thanks for letting his dad tag along with the rest of you last night. Can't wait to see what you have in store for OU Tuesday night!

I'm not sure which I'm going to enjoy watching more - the actual OU/Akron game itself or the Rowdies having a blast with the OU coaching staff and players, ESPECIALLY BUBBA! Tough loss at Toledo last night but ready to look beyond that to OU. Thanks NIU and Bubba!

Thank you! -
The only thing worse than an OU fan is a Miami fan - the biggest bunch of hoity-toitys I've ever been around. Can't fans don't bother me nearly as much ... they're just ignorant and can't really help themselves for being what/who they are.

I'm telling ya - I had the ice picks deep into the eye sockets again tonight watching Toledo/Can't and listening to Needle "call" the game. I thought Can't previous play-by-play guy was bad but Needle IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST!!!!!!!!!! I should have turned the TV sound down and tuned in to the guy doing radio for Can't in Needles place. WHAT does Can't hear when they listen to Needle to keep the guy around?!
-
Put me down for a Can't loss. I don't like Can't and Toledo both on the road. Tough places to steal a win.

Any kid wearing a (basketball?) jersey of any kind was admitted free.

You could do this for every "dog" game, but to do it for every game remaining on the schedule would be pretty weak on the University's part. You shouldn't need to give away freebies for a 1st place 17-4 team.Freebies for a Ball State or EMU game is fine. It was nice to have the kid's energy in the building. There's no way you give away tickets for the OU or Austin Peay game. Unless you just don't like revenue. You're correct Captain. EVERY game was a bit harsh. Targeting certain games that may not be much of a draw (2500-3000) would be more like it. It (free if wear a jersey) seemed to work well for yesterday's game against Ball State. OU, Can't, BracketBuster - no way.

Nice turnout today. If I were the athletic department, I'd let younger (under 12?) in free EVERY game. You'll sell at least one parent ticket and maybe two. Toss in some concession stand business and I gotta believe the U makes money on the freebie that walked through the door. It also preps future generations of Zip students/fans. Nice game today - way to go Zips!

Trimmy -1350AM with Steve French if you want to listen to the Akron version of the broadcast. You'll have to create a login but the audio is streaming free tonight. I'm listening to it now.

JAR = Glorified high school gym that got hacked up/watered down somewhere between initial concept/design and end product. Had to be a "multi-use" (classroom use) facility to qualify for state funding. Can't complain TOO much until we do better than the 3000 or so we've averaged for years in the 5500-"seat" (half or more are wood bleacher seats; the rest are chairback) facility.
-
I'm also banking on the home court advantage thing and a full complement of AK-Rowdies at each end of the floor who have done their homework and give Peay players and coaches an earful all game long. I agree with CK that it looks like our unselfish, deep-off-the-bench Zips are hitting their stride and should take care of business at home on Saturday, 2/17 ...Akron 80Peay 65... this assumes no emotional let-down following the home game against Ohio on Tuesday, 2/13.

THAT is making lemonade out of lemons! I hope the athletic department runs with something like that - why NOT? Love the levity in the face of a crappy draw ...
-
Damn it! Whoopee! GO PEAY!

Bubba Walther - 3-for-12 shooting, 8 points total. 2-for-9 on 3s.

I'm glad someone started this thread. I thought about it but held off. Someone should have made sure the new suit was ready for the nationally televised game. I sit 2/3rds of the way up in the upper blue seats and could see and count the holes/worn spots. Zippy's the best mascot in the country in my biased opinion - that's my son in my avatar when he was 4 years old sitting on Zippy's lap. Keep it up Zippy - the kids love you and so do the rest of us!
-
Bleacher - I was glad to see you and a few others (?) from the South end in the North seats. I thought you did a great job keeping that end relatively active and reasonably loud throughout the game. Maybe the Rowdies can rotate different people to the South? Patience, my friend. It's going to take some time but it seemed like we actually had two active ends today. Don't get frustrated, keep working at it. You guys are doing a good job this year! GO ZIPS!

I'll worry about Top 25 when we actually beat somebody. Close-but-no-cigar to Nevada and bad losses to Illinois-Chicago and Ark-Little Rock don't do much for at-large bid consideration. Win MAC tournament or get ready for the NIT. One game at a time right now and hope we stay healthy while doing it. Go Zips!

Ditto that. Was in upper left-hand side of center GA and was very impressed with south Rowdies. North "Rowdies" were a zero and from the sounds of it, one of them really pissed the Buffalo coach off. Anyone have any info on what happened?
-
Frankly, I was disappointed in the Rowdie turnout for today's game given the GREAT turnout for Can't (both ends full with overflow upstairs). EVERY MAC home game is a BIG game - no reason both ends shouldn't be full every game.
