  1. To JD - Name your price and sign right here X ______________________________ .WAY TO GO ZIPS!!!!!!! Thank you ESPNU - what a great game to watch on TV. Akron highlight(s) showing up in all kinds of other college football broadcasts! I have to admit I was one of those thinking here we go again ... forgive me but it's the years of conditioning that is TOUGH to unlearn! Can't wait for next week.
  2. ABSOLUTELY the right call on the road against that kind of opponent. Get the checkbook out Mack Rhoades - we need to keep this guy (JD). Way to go Akron!
  3. Cancelled my subscription long ago. Do read the business section on-line and blow throught the sports to humor myself with the hope of finding anything to read. Pathetic. I know, I know, enough bashing but playing an ACC school and not get a mention on the front of the sports section AND below Can't coverage elsewhere? I hope they continue to die a slow death ...
  4. FYI - I called Johnny Malloy's in Medina and they do NOT have ESPNU. Each Johnny Malloy's decides which sports channels to carry. I called Chapel Hill again and a different manager confirmed that the AKRON/NCST game WILL be on Saturday at noon. If any of you are planning to go to a Johnny Malloy's other than Chapel Hill, you'd better call first (johnnymalloys.com for locations and phone numbers) to make sure they have access to ESPNU. Go Zips! Cheers everyone!
  5. Just called and talked to Steve at Johnny Malloy's Chapel Hill. They DO have ESPNU and WILL be showing the Akron/NCST game on a few different screens. They open at 11AM. GO ZIPS!
  6. ESPNU is included as part of the DirecTV's Total Choice Premier package ($99 a month) or can be added as part of the SPORTS PACK package. The Sports Pack package can be added to any of the base packages for an additional $12 (or less per DirecTV's web site) a month. I'm waiting on a call back from my father-in-law to see if he'd let me pay him $12 for September (NCST) and November (Ohio) so I can catch those two road cames. Cheaper than a road trip!
  7. I just called Damon's in Belden Village - DirecTV yes, ESPNU no. Nick, the manager, is going to call me on Friday after he gets the sheet (from corporate I guess) that tells him what games they'll have access to on Saturday. I let him know that Zip fans are looking for a place to go watch the Akron/NCST game Saturday at noon and he said he'd love to have the business. In the meantime, I guess we're still 'on the hunt!'
  8. My son noticed the new tops right away - thumbs up I like the blue pants.
  9. Sure glad we're in "Happy" Valley today and not Columbus. THE College does look good. NIU's secondary also looks pretty porous, kinda like it did last December in Detroit!
  10. YES!!!! A blocked xtra point!!!
  11. ... OH NO, a Grambling TD ....
  12. While we wait for 3:30PM to roll around, our home-opener opponent, North Texas, is taking on Texas on FSN. Gives us a chance to kill time and see what the Mean Green look like.GO ZIPS in Happy Valley!
  13. An update to my original post ...I sent an e-mail to the athletic office earlier this morning. Here's the reply ..."Audio for football, men's basketball and women's basketball will be available over the internet. It will be a pay service as in the past. The games will be heard locally on 1350 AM again. The web site is in a transition. We are hoping for a re-launch of the upgraded site later this week. That's why there is no audio link yet. They'll be up bt the end of the week."
  14. I'm assuming all Zips broadcasts are still on 1350AM with Steve French doing the play-by-play. Can anyone confirm this? Will the audio be available via the web (pay-for) as it has in years past? I can't find any broadcast info on the temporary gozips.com web site. New gozips.com was slated for end of August - I wonder if XOS is behind schedule?
  15. With as little respect as possible, who gives a damn. This is the Zips forum. Now, now, David. No stroking out on the board.
  16. I turn 41 tomorrow (class of '88) and it's always been the 'U of A' or 'The University of Akron' for me. Akron U sounds like Podunk U to me and I get a good ribbing at work and everywhere else I happen to be when I step up and 'correct' someone . 'THE ...' is pretty arrogant and is deserving of the school down south. I about lose my lunch everytime I hear someone say 'THE Ohio State University.'
  17. Just threw most of today's mailing into the trash...no wine-and-cheese parking for me. Yeesh!
  18. I wonder if Nevada will show up for the home game they are supposed to give us in return for the Bracket Buster game in Reno this past February?
  19. A lot of big-name schools affiliated with ISP. Akron moves to the top of the list (well, at least alphabetically):ISP University Partners
  20. Was he like this when Cowher warned him that he should wear a helmet? Before that acident he looked like this . Now his smile is probably fake.
  21. It's time to put up some non-MAC W's to earn a higher ranking and a little more respect. Bummer that we have to do the 2 away/1 home thing with most non-MAC schools but that's just the way it is right now. I'd like to think we have a shot at NC State and Cincy this year. I love what JD and his staff have done in two years - GO ZIPS!

You know, the only sports that can't are really good at, are baseball and basketball. But basketball will be bad soon. But for us we rock hard in most sports.
  23. I sure hope he goes somewhere he likes. Same with Jay.
  24. Sweet more players for our Championship team. :macc: Maryland.
  25. We need him for baseball not for football.
