Again, if he had won an NCAAT game or two at Akron, yes. As it is now, I do not see it happening, and it's not a knock on Groce. We are lucky to have him. That's just the likely perspective of any P4 AD.

And all of that is reasonable, I just think his family's life in the present carries way more weight than his legacy experiences. All this said, I think he should be given the respect and compensation commensurate with his performance at UA so that he is satisfied and does not have other reasons to want to seek another opportunity.

If Groce had won an NCAAT game or two, I'd be concerned. At this point though, I am sure he appreciates what he has going and the stability it brings his family. He's done the P4 thing already and knows what that's like. I don't think it's worth his leaving at this point to get another high mid-major position either. The days of mid-majors going to the Sweet 16 are pretty much over, and the last two NCAATs provide data to this point. So, why would he leave? He can do all of that here.

But without football, there's a lot less excess revenue to spread around to buy players for other sports. It is no coincidence that the Sweet 16 contains only one non-P4 school, and St. Johns is a traditional basketball powerhouse with an exceptional coach. Even traditional P4 powerhouse basketball schools such as UNC, Kentucky, and Kansas have had a steep dropoff in recent years while Alabama, Michigan, and Iowa, where football is relatively strong, have risen in basketball.

This was a solid team that blew out most of its competition all year. Another team that has already won an NCAAT game can't even say that. We just struggled to bring our A game down the stretch. We can win and not play our best in the MACT, but not in the NCAAT. Except for a few players, we've looked burned out the past four games.

Agreed. It only worked because SMU was unprepared and didn't want to be there.

With a good performance this game was so winnable too. AND TT shooting 10/18 from three. Even with suboptimal defense, that's still hot. Just not our day in the NCAAT....AGAIN.

If TT were smart and made it a point to shut Scott down, we'd be cooked! Lyles on three fouls early does not bode well either.

And he just backed out of a fast break when he should have challenged the defense at the rim. He is being timid, and that's a terrible sign. Just once I'd like us to bring our A game to the NCAAT. That's why OOC games on the road like at Troy matter so much. We should be prepared for this, but we don't appear to be! Ugh.
