thought i'd add my thoughts to the spring game. hope to hear other's who attended.1. great day and the festivities were great!2. was hoping to see more from cj but looked much the same. some really good and some what the hell was he thinking. j.d. said that two of the three picks he threw weren't all his fault but he certainly didn't help.3. rodgers looked better than i was hoping. arm strength was there and kept his cool. only mismanaged the clock once. he's the starter in my opinion. 4. dk and k grant look in much better shape. both must have lost 10 lbs. each and looked much faster. still think pinky will start but dk should be the back up.5. allen looked slow but heard he hadn't practiced all week. i'll give him a pass.6. bain looks as good as advertised. he'll be tough to stop in the mac.7. b will and a will will both upgrade the d. speed and toughness. the only thing missing was......8. the secondary. paper thin and they only have 3 corners who could play. (barnes, graham, anderson). anderson looked good but they need the newcomers to come in and contribute 9. o line looked ok but was a little concerned with the play of bates. wouldn't be surprised to see rossman fight him for time at center. the line was banged up all spring so i'll give them a bit of a pass too. 10. bruce and jones are electric with the ball in their hands. they need to hone their skills but will be an upgrade. they have to have bowser step up on the outside if this team is to have true balance 11. merce and cruz both looked good at te. just hope they use them this year12. had the pleasure of talking to some parents and they talked of better team unity and how well liked the new players were. they also said pinky is the real deal and rodgers has more talent than cj. overall had a blast! great to see the change in formate as it shows this team finally has enough depth on both sides to be an elite team. pumped about the stadium and love the idea of 2 year season ticket plans. all i have for now.....would love to hear other peoples thoughts.

soccer is a little different than football or basketball when it come to scholarships. like baseball, softball, and tennis some scholarships are split between players. I knew some players that were on 1/4 scholarships. As for the pwo's? I can't speak for the the soccer team but most teams will use this to entice a recruit to come with the understanding of a scholly the following year. Hope that shed some light on your question.

so you need to win to make a bigger conference???? tell that to south fla and ucf. they are larger city schools with above ave facilities and are building more. akron's on the same path with only a new futbol stadium and hoops arena left. plus, if the city wants to build a brand new arena for you why not run with it!

i'd assume that he'll go the juco rout if he can't qualify for d-I this year. athletic kid. hope (for his sake) he can qualify.

was curious if anyone else listened to coach brookheart on zips live today. listened on the web and will share the major info...1. very happy with the qb play. said jac is performing better than he had hoped and rodgers was pushing him. he also mentioned rodgers was still building up arm strength.2. the andre jones move to wr and b will to ss experiment had gone well. said that b will can take it to the next level on d and jones has shown flushes and will be exciting. 3. d line has been a strength. bain and mondo along with rash and hassin have impressed.4. starting secondary should look like: anderson and graham at db with b will and carter at the safety spots. kabir and coben at rover. also mentioned that expects newcomers in the fall to compete for time.5. wants more out of the punting game and kick off coverage (no big surprise there). igor will be kicking off this year. 6. still need to sure up the o line depth wise and wants to push others. not sure who he was referring to there. 7. the spring game will be a full game with the team splitting up instead of the o vs d format of the past. side note: love that the format change this year. should get more entertainment value and shows that there is enough depth on the team to make this happen. that's all i could think of but if i remember anything else i'll update later

Dr. Proenza, for better or worse is the face of the university. many schools could come up with better slogans but few have such a recognizable face as Akron does. As for the university showing new buildings and happy students......that is what most colleges do with their ads. i tend to think it was necessary for the university to show case how the campus has been transformed. many hadn't a clue that so much had changed and some still don't. and as for billboard's i see electric ads for the university all the time in ne ohio and see running ad's inside the Q during all cavs games. would i like to see more advertising by the university? sure, but what they are doing must be working as enrollment is increasing yearly while other state schools decrease. simply look back to 7-10 years ago and think to how the university was perceived and how much advertising there was and we can all agree how much the school has come in such a short time frame.

looks like elton did write ups on akron, csu, and Can't State. heres the Can't State link click melooks like elton thinks Can't will be down from this year and i tend to agree. they will be good but not as good as this years team. akron on the other hand will probably start slow but could end up being a better team come mac tourney time.

i am pretty sure that they were looking at jones as a two way player and will be starting at fs. the carter experiment will kind of be like brandon anderson moving to ss last year as the safety spot is thin. i think ss will be fine once fleming comes in this fall and could see davis as jones back up. bain getting into the back field just means he's a beast. the line played well last year considering their youth and that the offense was one dimensional. with 3 5ths of the line out and working in a new center i'd expect the line to be a little weak. love the idea of pride at scat back. the more speed on the field the better. rodger's will start but j.d. can't come out an say that just yet. he needs jac as a solid back up and if he lost his spot this early his confidence could be crushed. this team has a lot of depth and will not tire out any more. if bowser and one other wr. steps up than this team could be really good. if not and jac is the qb......then they are only slightly better than last year.

looks like spring ball is set to resume this week! here's some links from gozips.spring ballhere's the updated roster.....insert Da-Von Moore jokes as he's on the rosterrosterthings that stood out to me; ryan bain will live up to the hype. j.d. hardly ever singles out a player but has repeatedly done so with him. he also said that they are trying players at different pos and are looking at the secondary. translation b will at corner. nice to look at the roster, no glaring omissions and was pleasantly surprised to see Al-Teric Balaam back on the roster. and really glad to start to see some depth at all pos.

first off, i really don't see jimmy leaving akron for a couple of reasons. if he goes to another d-1 school he'll have to sit out a year and probably wouldn't be on track to gain that 5th year back. If he goes D-II (please correct me if wrong) he'll be able to play but won't be able to get that 5th year. If he stays and hits the books he's got two more years. I liken him to Mike Scott and think with a more up tempo style will play better. with that said i agree with both sides here. skip is right that most frosh don't come in and contribute right away but i do look for the red shirts to adjust quickly. i also agree that sullivan and mcClanah will most likely red shirt but don't know enough about parrish. mcness was never a true 1 and played out of pos this year. he will be much better/comfortable at the 2. the more i watch roberts play, the more i love his game. not only will he be though to stop with the ball in his hands but will be a lock down defender for years to come. with stewart, roberts, and humpty, akron will be the quickest team in the mac and if the big's step up....they'll have the potential to be one of the most balanced teams.the mcnight's can be scary good and nate will take on the silent leader role next year. the schedule will be tougher next year but the mac will be down. 20 wins for the 4th year in a row has a nice ring to it!

keep in mind that williams played both rb and db at valley forge and was mostly recruited to play db in college. he will adjust well and will be a playmaker on d. i really hope rodgers steps up and i have a feeling that he'll be the starter no later than week 2, if not sooner.

here's an update from the abj click melooks like tate ran a 4.26 :blink: :blink: :blink: :blink: and jabari ran a 4.5. didn't mention much about nate but the gozips.com article notes many worked out. many scouts were on hand. if anyone else has any first or second hand info would love to hear it. with tate running such a fast 40 time akron may see 3 players drafted!

Akron can't add any more players for next year so the juco rout is out and will be for some time. I am not too concerned about this team. I liken it to when the team had to play small when Wood went down. C. McNight can play the 5 if needed but they will need to pressure the ball more. With the increase in guards and speed they should be able to do that. As long as Bardo/Sweitch can give 20-25 mins of solid d they will be fine. B. Mcnight is a nightmare to match up against as is his brother. Roberts really reminds me of Ced and McNess will play much better with the ball out of his hands (similar to Dials earlier in his career). The point will be in much better shape with Stewart. I'd look for Parrish and Sully to redshirt and Nikola and McClanahan to add to the rotation showing sparks from time to time. The future looks good to me, this will be the fastest, most athletic team K.D. has had and will be able to play that pressure D that he likes. 19 wins and a lot of noise in the tourney would be a safe bet.

it's really 5 to play 2. i know brooks is a local kid but he is coming to akron as a walk on. i wish the kid th best but i don't see him playing. stewart, if healthy will be the point with either roberts or mcness starting at the two. depending on how quick the other's develop will dictate how much playing time they get. my guess is that sullivan will red shirt and humpty will take on the ced role. this kid has star potential though! also, keep in mind that K.D. likes to run three guard sets. could see that with the mcnights or nate and bardo out there. not a bad problem to have
