4.) Jacq has improved SO much since last season. Taking the team 80 yards down the field to tie things up was really clutch. It is tough to find fault in him...but if he wants to be a marquee MAC QB next season, he has to shake his late-game jitters. He's almost "there," but he's still lacking the confidence and late-game poise that we need from his position to win these kind of close games.couldn't agree more. 8.) The OL has protected on of Division 1's most immobile QB's flawlessly this season. And run-blocked unbelievably well. We've had better individuals on the line over the past several seasons, but none have played this well as a unit.couldn't agree more and the line will only get better next year as 4 return and estrada should be a good replacement for kemme10.) Bryan Williams has been a major disappointment. I really thought he'd be a hard-hitting ballhawk. It hasn't happened.here's my question on b will. he supports the run well but i ofter wonder why he lines up covering the slot on passing downs. i know we play a zone and he tends to get lost in space. would love to see him used more in blitz packages. saw a little of that last game. 11.) Aaron Williams is the new Jay Rohr. Undersized, but active as hell. aside from grant who has really stepped up, he's been one of the few impact players on d when he's on the field. 12 - 16) All the stuff above has probably been said before. I'll throw in a personal final Rubber Bowl memory for something a little different. As the 4th quarter wound to completion and the OT's progressed, my 7 year old son and I raced back and forth to follow the action and scream our lungs out. When that last Buffalo FG split the uprights, the kids burst into tears like I've never seen. We stayed through the entire post-game ceremony and, although he bit his lip as hard as he could, the tears couldn't stop flowing. I tried every "dad" thing in my arsenal to cheer him up, but to no avail. After the game he asked if he could walk on the field. I said "sure," took his hand and walked him down the ramp. A security guard stopped us - "Turn around!" I tried to explain that we just wanted to walk on the field..but the rent-a-cop wasn't really feeling too sympathetic. Obviously this didn't go over too well with the already profoundly distraught 7 year old.I told my son I was going to drop him over the rail. Once he hit the ground, I told him "RUN LIKE HELL...and don't stop until you get to the A logo @ the 50! I'll be right behind you." I tossed the kid over the edge and he started running. I then hop over, and the security woman spots us. "SIR...SIR...SIR!" and she raced towards us. "RUN LIKE HELL SON!!" We were off to the races. The kid was laughing like hell. I was too. The security guard kept up for about 25 yards, but she soon faded. We blended in with the football alumni milling about on the field, and the rest is history. I had a lot of great memories of the Rubber Bowl...friends, tailgates , games, individual plays...too many to mention. The final father-son security-avoiding sprint across the field ranks my all time favorite. I'm sure my son will never forget it...he was laughing about it this morning as he ate his cereal (on about 5 1/2 hours sleep).A special "Thank You" to the rent-a-cop that made it all possible. awesome story!this loss still hurts! the one thing that hurts the most is how close this team is to being really good. the positive is that this a young team and this is what young teams do. this team will find ways to close games out soon and will be really good next year as this young team will become a veteran team. looking forward to akron ending the regular season with another two game win streak and getting 6 road wins! that would be a huge boost for the program.

found the answerper akron media guideGraham spent two seasons at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas, but only playedone season. There was some confusion with his paperwork, but upon further review, it hasbeen determined he only played one season at the junior college and will have an additionalyear of eligibility for the 2009 season.great news!
-
Wasn't aware of this. Can anyone confirm? Per TG's article in the abjCornerback Miguel Graham and receiver Andre Jones, both listed as seniors, will not participate in senior night activities Thursday because UA expects them to be eligible and return for the 2009 season.

while i can't normally pick up 1350 i happened to be in the akron area during zips live last night. i caught the interview with jd and thought i'd share with the nation.1. when talking about the bg loss and to a lesser extent the cincy game he mentioned that the team needs to learn how to close out games. he also mentioned that the effort level is there but the players need to make plays when they are there. specifically a few under thrown balls by jac and some blown assignments on d.2. the talked about the great depth on the o line saying they are 10 deep and that the combo of talent and depth is the best he's ever had in college and that included pitt.3. there was a quick question regarding changes in personnel and jd quickly put the kabosh on that. i am assuming the question was geared to jac.4. they also talked a little recruiting and went over the youngsters. a few mentioned by name. rodgers is going to be a great player and is further ahead of any frosh he's had at the qp pos. nadir brown. also going to be an impact player. he's put on 17 lbs already. mitch straight has increased his bench by 70 lbs!!!! he loves the young linebacker and db's. he also mentioned that this is 3 very good classes in a row for the zips.5. jd also said that pinky was ready to go for the emu gamethat's all i can think of for now. if i can think of any more i'll post again

you can listen to the audio link too. it is not pay. i am happy to see someone else post on this. i posted a topic on the other sports section and got no reply's. it truly is a step forward and a huge leap in production in comparison to what the university had before (nothing).

i picked a combination and i'll add a few thoughts. while it's you never pin point a loss on just a couple of things the two things that really stood out to me was a lack of pass rush and the poor play of jac in the 4th. while some on this board get on the line for not making a few sacks it's the linebackers that need to step up their play. having a will out really hurt as he is the best blitzing linebacker on the team. lets hope he's back for the emu game. side note; pendelton didn't see the field (not sure if it was injury or other). as for jac the interception was the play that changed the game. even further, lets take a look at the 4th q numbers BG: 8-9-0-88 3 td's UA: 6-14-1-50 1 td. jac to me reminds me of florida state's former qb chris rix. both have good arms and are tall qb's that look like at franchise qb. if it were only that simple. both lacked touch and both get frazzeled when pressured and in pressure situations. i asked the people around me in the 4th if jac had a comeback in him and no one said yes. i am not bashing the guy, he's come a long way and will put up some good numbers but i'm not sure he'll ever become the elite qb the fan base is yearning for. that being said akron should be 4-4 by saturday with a real chance to win the east. akron will have 4 road wins with a chance at 5-6 road wins. for those looking for progress under j.d. there it is.

Let's win a few championships in football and make a few trips to the NCAA tournament in basketball. Let's fill our new stadium game in and game out for a couple of years. Let's fill up the JAR more than once or twice a year. Then maybe... just maybe... we can start talking about this.tell that to usf and ucf. they didn't win anything and were able to move conferences. most seem to think that memphis, ucf, and ecu are locks for the big east. ecu, while having a very good year is hardly a conference power and the same can be said for ucf. memphis has basketball going for them but football is in the same boat with the other two schools. in order to move a school must have great facilities, and good sized market base, a good sized student body, and the ability to pump money into your athletic program. is akron there yet? no but they can be with in three years.

he made the right read on that play and did what he should do by under throwing the ball and giving bowser a chance to make a play. bowser made an awesome play on the ball. side note that i forgot to post....was listening to the post game in the parking lot and the interview with igor was classic....igor how are you going to celebrate the win???? i'm 21 so i'm gonna go get drunk tonight! classic! would love to get the audio of that.
-
this isn't anything new. the athletic department said that the schedule with the new stadium will include one money game and at least 6 home games. compared to previous schedules that's a huge improvement.

great posts guys.....will add a few thoughts1. i like t campbell but i am happy to see carter getting more snaps at the fs spot. with his size and athletic ability he can be and impact player and showed signs of that against Can't.2. props to the d! the line was gassed but played their hearts out! they may give up a lot of yards but make plays when they have to. 3. my question on the o playing calling. does moorehead have little faith in jac by calling wr screen after wr screen or is moorehead that stubborn? something has to give and the play calling has to be shaken up a little to keep teams honest.4. got to give some props to jd! it truly looked like the refs weren't going to review the bowser td but jd called a time out and forced them to take a 20th look. also good for him to make the proper side calls in overtime.5. while jac didn't play well he made two great plays with the td throw to bowser and the 3rd and 22 throw to bowser in overtime. if he doesn't make that second throw akron doesn't get the win.this team is far from perfect but it has enough to win the east. lets hope this win propels them to that goal!see you at the bowl sat!CAN'T READ CAN'T WRITE CAN'T KICK!
-
tuzze is listed as the back up on the depth chart for the Can't game. i am sure pride will get some carries too. glad to hear that about pinky....hope he makes a quick return to the field!see you at Can't
-
here's the link for the Can't blog on ohio.com click meman, i thought we had it bad! i thought maybe Can't would keep it close if jarvis were to make it back but with out him they have no offense.
-
no one has really talked about this but i thought it would be nice to give some props to the university's web page. to be specific the zips zone is fantastic! for years many on this board (myself included) wanted more out of the website and i feel they delivered. the podcasts are great and cover all zips athletics not just a sport here or there. also, the frequency of the podcasts is better than i thought they could do. you tend to get a few podcasts a week. my only gripe is the guy who does the podcasts spends too much time with his intro's and reviews. stick to the interviews they are very good! one final thought...love the pop ups to remind the reader the time of the football home games.thoughts?????

"4.) I thought Jack had his second consecutive poor outing. His stats didn't look terrible, but he should have had double whatever he ended up with. "he's the chris rix of the zips....jac giveth and jac taketh away.....still much better than last year"5.) Poindexter and Bruce do not appear to need flu shots this fall since they can't catch anything. I want to see more Al Owen next week!"still not giving up on bruce. merc????? lets just say i am ready for more cruz"8.) I would like to see Matt Rogers get a series or two. I don't know if he's any good, but I do know our receivers and OL are. If he's at all capable, he should be able to move the ball."thought rodgers should start from the start of the season but the team will be in the hunt all year and playing two qb's hardly ever works"12.) Aaron Williams made a great TFL slicing through the Army OL during the second half. He looks like a playmaker. I want to see more of him."couldn't agree more....should take more of d will's playing time, he just doesn't make plays"15.) We did miss Alex Allen in the red zone. He would have dominated Saturday. But Johnson and Kennedy should be good enough. Tuzze reeled off some good chunks of yardage late in the game too."Pinky needs more carries, he's a play maker. Tuzze should be the goal line back"If we play solid football, we can beat just about anyone on our schedule. I couldn't say that last season. Let's see if the players and staff can put together a solid game plan and execute it vs. Cinci."agree! you can make a case that akron should win the east. bg is similar to akron. poor d an o that can look great at times but doesn't put it all together. ohio can't stop beating itself. Can't is just bad! miami...see Can't but with a little more talent. ub looks like the most balanced but lacks some depth. temple looks bad with out de michael just like last year. the east is there for the taking....lets hope the can put it all together!see you at the bowl this weekend!

akron will cover....army is not good
-
i watched some of the replay of the ub temple game (yeah i know, get a life....but there was nothing on yesterday ) and both of their offenses are legit. willy is the most stable qb in the mac and temple is very dangerous but their red zone o is bad (kind of like akron's o 2 years ago). akron still has a good chance to win the mac east but so does everybody else. can't wait to see how it plays out!

Vote on fans expectations from the beginning of the season
gozips19 replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Football
i voted better.the secondary has been better than i thought. the play of anderson and graham has been very good. the offense as a whole has been very good too! you can't fault the d line since they are so banged up. the only area i've been disaponted in is the linebackers. grant has played better but can do more. someone posted this in another thread about d will and i completely agree. i'll will send the search team to find him. the youngsters have played well. i was thinking 7-8 wins and (baring no more voodoo injuries) should get there. this team will be ready to contend for a mac title next year as almost everyone will be back! i think the team is in good shape.while i don't have a question about bain coming back in the next two weeks i have to wonder why they haven't given any detail to his injury. i know they don't have to in college but with coles, harvey, and lively you got a time table. this would lead me to believe they are holding out that he can give the team a few games towards the end of the year. lets just hope lively is back for the cincy game and get healthy from there!akron covers this week -
2) Find your tight end! (hmm, that sounds weird) Was Poindexter even at the BS game???sure was, he dropped a touchdown with no one around him
-
from the gozips.com press conferenceHow many players are you down on the defensive line?We are very thin on the line right now and we lost our fourth nose guard during pre game on Saturday. Currently we are down Eric Lively, Ryan Bain, Deni Odofin, Cowles Stewart, James Harvey, and Hasan Hazime. We are expecting to see some of them back this weekend.wish we knew who??????

my group will be there at 9 sharp!

Plus, if I recall correctly, we either offered Nate or pursued him strongly before he committed to Ball St.you are correct....akron was on him early as well as some other big ten schools but he was leaning on playing hoops instead of football and scared off some teams. ball st never left and the commit paid off!
