  1. this is a million times better than last years renewal! last year i could swear that it was done by helper monkeys. this is a first class job! maybe there is hope for the athletic department after all? one side note, i live outside of summit county and tend to get my mailings a few days after i read about it on the board so i was pleasantly to get my renewal in the mail today and not a few days after everyone else. good job boys!
  2. akron had tons of local players when owens was the coach. but like many have already posted, they weren't the elite players. i love the fact that western pa has become a place for akron to recruit. not only do they get big time talent out of that area it also helps with enrollment was there are many students considering akron now. other than that i agree with many of the other posts on the board. this will take some time but the university is on the right track!
  3. even if they went to a 3-4 this year the line up wouldn't change as mackey would move to a lb spot. why make the switch?
  4. cj also won a state title in fl. but i do think he's a little immature. i still feel he's got more talent but that doesn't always make for the better qb. if hakes were a year older i'd want him but he's not and cj's more athletic so i want him. that's what it comes down to for me.
  5. they didn't play straight up 1's on 1's when the other two qb's were in. granted some starters were in. i understand your concern with cj's "demeanor" and i don't still don't know what to make of it. i remember many times were he was pumping up this teammates but other times looking very reclusive. to me this is a two person race with cj and hakes. i still think hakes has a ways to go. while cj forced a few balls deep they were in single coverage. hakes forced balls into the middle of the field. i thought the nation was sick of watching that as luke did this at least twice a game last year. it appears akron will try to run the ball a lot this year and they need a qb to not make mistakes and make things happen with his feet. every time i see cj i think of ron rutherford whom j.d. coached at pitt. he wasn't the purest qb but he was a very poised athlete at the qb spot. both of these guys have ability, i just hope whomever wins the job takes it and runs with it!
  6. Hey I don't know what game you were watching but CJ completed 2 of his 12 or so passes and only gained 1 first down the entire scrimmage. Hakes was by far the most impressive followed by Jacquemain. CJ had negative rushing yards while Hakes had around 40 yards rushing and Jacquemain had around 20 yards (w/o sacks into the equation).please look at the stats again. jac just looked awful! you could argue that hakes played better and i am fine with that. my point is that he forces too many balls. that interception he threw was not only called by myself but three other guys sitting there. we were all saying don't do it, then he did. i just think he's a year away. as for cj, he would have broken off several long rushes if it wasn't for some taps on the back of his jersey. another thing going for hakes was he had the 3rd sting wr's against 3 rd string db's and cj had 3rd sting against 1st stringers. i don't really recall anyone being open while he was out there unless it was for a minimal gain (that is what he took).
  7. what i learned today:our starting and second team secondary is way better than our 4th string wr's. really hard to get a grasp on the passing game as anyone who will see the field this year was on the side lines. the d played with swagger. i loved to see the defense carry themselves with an attitude today big nate has slimed down and it is showing up in his play. the secondary got bigger too (especially dixon). i thought we'd run the ball a lot but i don't recall more than 12-15 pass plays. only things i got from the qb's is that Jac looks like a back up to me. he made some bad read's on the spread option. hakes looks like cj did last year. you can see the potential but he's a little lost still and forces balls. the interception he threw was horrible. i don't know what attitude you saw 74 with cj. i thought he looked the part of a starting qb. he has a ways to go but his athleticism is second to none. the o line still has some question marks but will finish the year better than last years team. interesting to see the rotations. ward got a ton of reps and looked good. it also appears that bates will take over schepp's roll as the supper sub as he worked at both guard and center.the kicking still sucks. j.d. should have made the team do some extra gasser's for the poor special teams. missed field goals, blocked field goals, a false start on a punt, and poor punting. not good!great turn out and i too saw harvey in the seats. a very good sign. saw andy working out in the weight room at the end of the game and his beard makes him look even more nasty!the team has a ways to go but they are the most athletic team j.d. has had to date. lots of potential on this team.
  8. No. Most kids are more concerned about 100 different things other than whether or not a former player now in the NFL comes around.GP1 come on? you can't be serious about that? every time a pro athlete comes around there's a buzz. i do hope the browns draft andy, he'd make a great back up as a rookie and could start in year two. the guy's got great potential.
  9. ok the spring game is tomorrow and i can't wait! what are some of the things you'll be looking for during the scrimmage? i will be looking closely at the lines and the qb play. i really hope all three qb's play tomorrow. i also will be looking forward to some of the new wrinkles in the offense such as the option and i am hoping to see all three tight ends on the field at the same time. personally i would prefer to see the team split into two and play each other. a personal preference. maybe we aren't that deep to pull that off yet? thoughts??????
  10. sorry to get you guys fighting over this. i was simply saying that its pointless to guess what Harvey's situation is. i do feel that some of the suggestions are stereotyping him as a thug. someone might take that the wrong way. regardless, it appears that no one really knows or is saying what his deal is. i agree with you capt. that this is big news but its pointless to guess. it only does harm to the kid. i hope someone does find out what is wrong with him and i really really hope that he comes back because he's a hell of a player.
  11. guys you are assuming way too much with Harvey's "situation". unless you know what is going on with him then it is pointless to guess and most of these comments are only stereotyping him. i truly hopes that Harvey makes his way back to the field for the zips. he's a great player. does anyone know if he was taking classes this spring?
  12. i am going to repost this old thread i started awhile ago to share some previous thoughtsclick me
  13. a little disappointed to see bates and anderson as back ups but the season is young. hopefully they'll get their acts together. haven't been to any practices so does anyone know if Schepp is rotating with Holley at center or solely taking snaps at rg?
  14. i just think allen will be the odd man out in the rotation. once he figures that out on the field he'll transfer (that's just a guess). i agree that DK has a long was to go that's why i don't see akron using a primary back. i see them running a lot and giving multiply carries to multiple backs. i agree with you CK on Pride, can't wait to see what he can do as well as Reed. anyone else think Williams may be red shirted due to depth?
  15. DK should and probably will start. i do think he'll be on a short leash though. Walker and Allen should spell DK with Reed as a possible third down/change of pace back. I am not sure about Williams but I wouldn't be surprised to see him red shirt to stager the depth (he has 3 years to play two). for those talking about Brinson, he'll be a corner and might red shirt as well to stager the depth. I am glad someone is finally talking about this as I basically posted this topic months ago. welcome aboard regardless on who starts I think you'll see a lot more running this year with that being a strength and inexperience at the qb spot. after it's all said and done, I think Allen will transfer after this season.
  16. glad someone beat me to it! just checked and still no updates. i am sure they are working hard on other various marketing strategies. come on guys we all hope you are better than this
  17. timmy if i am not mistaken williams and adams never played together. williams graduated in 05 making adams a frosh. i don't think adams got any p.t. that year that team was pretty stacked. regardless adams and williams are great athletes from the same school and i hope mr. excitement chooses to stay at home!
  18. 74, did they explain how seating would work for cbs? also i only have 2 season tickets but would very much like to purchase a third ticket for the osu game. if anyone doesn't plan on going i would gladly pay for them. please e mail me if anyone can help. thanks
  19. Brinson is 5'7.... he's a corner and potentially a damn good one! lets leave it at that.
  20. funny you should post this! i was down in the akron area visiting family and stopped into a lids this past weekend. i too was pleasantly surprised of all the choices of akron hats. i truly hope this continues to expand through out north east ohio and western pa.
  21. keep up the great work coach! you run a first class program!
  22. keep in mind that you'll be able to buy a beer and take it to your seat up in cleveland. i for one can't wait for the season to start!
  23. i like the schedule. the players are already used to this format so five (yes five) home games wont be a challenge. the non conference games are great, one money game and 3 very winnable games. i like the fact that we go to u conn as the zips are doing a lot of recruiting in the maryland area. the mac schedule is much better as a majority of akron's tougher games are at the bowl. getting temple and ub helps tremendously. the army game will do well for attendance as the university and the browns will "paper" the hell out of the game. great experience to take the family the browns stadium on the cheap and great tailgating. finally there's a lot or opportunity for television exposure this year. already 4 games on espn. the osu game will be on t.v. for sure and there's a chance for the other 3 games to get picked up. also expect the Can't game to be picked up by fsn. that's at least half the games probably 7 on t.v. is it a perfect schedule? of course not. is it better than last year? hell yes!
  24. i'll share my thoughts here as i will try to bridge the gap. i am a grad of four years now and have been a season ticket holder ever since. i am still young enough to know a few people who attend the U (six year plan) but old enough to talk with the ak oldies at fund raising events. many of the people that post they are nervous about the new football stadium went to school when the jar was built (or earlier). now every time they attend a b ball game they have to look at that piece of crap facility and think "what if"? i understand why you are nervous and truly understand just how big a moment this is in the history of the school. but, for the younger kids, they have nothing to be worried about. in the past 7-10 years akron has transformed its university into a beautiful place to attend. everything they have built has been classy and has given the university a unique look. they have also built great fields for the sports program already in the field house and the new softball field. we do not know your pain in the past but we understand. if you just got to the U and are new to this board don't take things for granted and talk to an oldie to gain some perspective on how things were. for the oldies have faith, things will be great! remember that the athletic dept. has to work with the prez. and everything he's green lit has been exceptional!
  25. what time are people planning on heading up to the lizard? i am bringing a group of 7 and we plan on showing up around 4 then going to the first game. i'll back the capt. pledge and buy the first ak-rowdy a beer.can't wait for tonight!!!!!!!
