+1 and if you've seen the ladyzips, you would know that this is a team on the rise and being in the semifinals wasn't a lucky shot.

The title of this thread should be modified to "Zeke's best game, so far" because i have a feeling that he will beat that performance tonight and that beat tonight's performance tomorrow. He's a big game guy, isn't he?

I think that Can't has a great chance to do something in the NIT this season. I am not sure yet, but as of now, i think..., i think that i will have no problem rooting for them in the NIT. The greatest thing about tonight was knowing that we won't have to see singletary anymore. Here is hoping that Geno will be recruiting better people than those Jim Christian recruited.

Is Humpty gonna be suspended tomorrow nite?

Put a lid on what? Playing his butt off?Looked to me that Humpty was the driving spark that ignited the down trodden Zips.No way should he tone it down. Just the opposite .. turn up the wick.Humpty is one of our best players and his game is greatly appreciated. However, his behaviour at the end of the game is totally unecessary and flush-like. I am sure KD will give him an ear full. -
I'm sorry I made the drive to Akron tonight....

Focused on what? did you see any defense last night? -
Our problem is not with recruiting. Can't does not recruit better than us as far as talent. Coming out of HS, Geno would have loved to get Zeke, Humpty, or Cventinovic. The problem is what we do with kids after they are here. This is college and not pro basketball. In college, you can't expect a polished player. You get the talemt but then there is a lot of learning and development to do. It usually starts with a jittery freshmen getting limited minutes, a "starting to get comfortable" sophomore, and then a "dominant, leading the team" junior and senior. That's not the case here. last year with the way Cventinovic, Humpty, and Nitro played, you would think that with a year of experience under their belt, they will be unstoppable. I can't say that those 3 sophomores grew at all from their fresh year. Heck Nitro might have gotten worse.Look at Swiech (3 years in the program) and Sullivan (2 years in), did they have the talent coming out of HS? they sure did. Otherwise, why did we recruit those kids? Is KD and the program failing to develop them the right way?

Wait till tomorrow QuickZips, lots of people will come here telling you that you are a bandwagonner and you're a shame to fanhood. I can't wait to hear the argument that we should be happy and thankful because KD's teams are better than Hipshers'

My favourite call when D-rob was fouled shooting 3. The refs call 3 free throws. D-rob shoots the first 2 and then the refs decided to review the play on TV to find out if it was 2 or 3 Aren't you supposed to do that before the first 2 free throws???

I'll be there with a party of 3-5 zips fans.

On the other side, if you watched the CAVS play the magic on ABC, you probably experienced the worst ever announcing of a game. The only ones that were worse than the announcers were the officials. This is a conversation between Marc Jackson and the other announcer (not sure of his name)Announcer: Varejao is on the floor asking for a foul.Jackson: Well Varejao is a flopper, officials know that so he won't get that call.Announcer: let's see it on replay.Jackson: Yep, like i said, he's a flopper, give the guy an oscar (me: )Announcer: I am not sure that was a flop, i mean Howard elbowed him in the throat.Jackson: yeah, he was elbowed in the throat but that doesn't matter... he's a flopper. So note to every team playing the Cavs: whoever sees AV on the floor, feel free to punch him in the face and kick him in the nuts. You won't be called for anything, because he's a flopper. And Jackson gets paid to say that crap on national TV.

Would that be the game that Ryan Miller of the Buffalo Sabres shut down Canada? So who from the Akron NHL club was there? Ooops! i missed that part But that doesn't change a thing. Ryan Miller is an American who's playing Pro in CANADA. It doesn't matter who from Akron was there. It was our country who won. Man, that Buffalo in Canada thing never gets old

True Blue, did you see that we beat you in the olympics Men's Hockey 5-3 tonight? Is there any game that you canadians are good at?

I can't believe i am saying this since i may have looked like Bardo's biggest hater at times. Anyways, i thought that Bardo was huge in the few minutes he played yesterday. He had that fierce look in his eyes and he did a great job considering the short time he got.

Thanks Nav for the addition.About the game, man am i glad we played the bobcats in Athens earlier.I am thankful we mannaged to win this one. Believe it or not, the bobcats' chances of winning it all at the Q are as big as Akron's Can't and anyone else. The biggest problem in my head now is playing against the duo Cooper/Keely for three more years. I hate to even think about it.How can they get a kid like Cooper to go to OU?

Any credits for Mcneese? Don't you think his 100% 3FG% had anything with winning us tha game?
-
This is one of those games that makes you feel good. We are used to loosing games that we should win. I think this is the first time i experience winning a game that we should have lost. It feels good.Kudos to Zeke, Mcneese, Conyers, and most of all KD. The TO and clock management as well as the subs at the end of the game were all crucial. On the negative side, Chris Mcknight continues to disappoint me. Gozips, I hope your friend Phil McKnight can lit some fire under both his sons. Let's hope the cardinals can give us a hand against the felons.

KD's seat is not hot and not even luke warm and will not be in the next 3 years at least. He's a local, loyal alum who's doing a decent job with the team and a great job with compliance, grades and the community.Keep in mind that KD has very little tools to recruit with. No great stadium, no big crowds, and no great history. So in a nutshell, why do you expect a recruit to come to Akron rather than anywhere else? and why do you expect Akron to dominate Toledo, Ohio and others? However, saying that KD took this program to unprecedented heights may be a stretch. If your reference is Hipsher than yes KD is a genius. But if you have bigger ambitions and a higher ceiling, you shouldn't be satisfied. Please spare me the 17-7 record and the many 20 win seasons. We all remember where we went with the 26-7 season, right? What is our biggest win of the season? 13-12 Niagara... Boo Hoo!!!!Do we have bad losses? let's count:1- killed @ 10-9 Buffalo2- destroyed by 14-9 NC St.3- loose at home to 9-11 EMU4- loose at home to 12-10 AP5- loose to archrival by double digitsI am not giving up on the team like KD wants to believe but am i not feeling that we have reached unprecedented heights with this program either. KD, I believe will be the head coach until he decides to retire or move on. All i am asking for is that he addresses the following issues:1 - the rotation (or the lack thereof) 2 - the FT% 3 - the slow development of players

He is a good athletic player. However...he is 13 on the team in field goal percentage at .381! He is seventh from the line. He is the hero when the shots fall at the end of the game but he is often a major contributor to some shots at the end of the game not mattering because the zips experienced a patented and epic early second half scoring drought. Humpty is a great player who can create his own shot. All that I am saying is that sometimes he rushes or just plain recklessly heaves the ball up. Please see the end of regulation today for an example of what I am talking about. He brings athleticism the zips are lacking across the board. His shot selection and game management skills are questionable at times. Overall he is a positive impact on the team but doesn’t have to be a one man show.Humpty can definitely improve his FT shooting. Same applies to every ZIP except D-Roberts. However, it is unfair to compare the FG% of your PG to that of a center. I am sure that Bardo has a higher % because he only takes a shot from a foot or two away. Swiech may have a carreer FG% of 100% because he only dunks, while Humpty often finds himself in a short shot clock situation where he has to throw the ball the best way he can.I agree that Humpty can do a better job not rushing a shot but that's something that can be taught. You can teach shot selection and game management skills but you can't teach speed, athleticism, and the winner attitude.
-
I am with you Zips Win. Humpty is one of the Good players on this team and i want him on the floor when the game is on the line. His shots may not be falling every night but that's the life of a shooter. He has a decent average and most importantly he is a winner. He seems to step up to the plate when a basket is needed. Remember Toledo games (last year in the Q and this year in the JAR).

This will totally kill the regular season and shrink the basketball season to one month (the month of march). If you have the opportunity to play more games that are selling out with great fan interest, why not?
-
Would someone please tell Brett McKnight to stop shooting threes? Other than that, i think we're playing great bball.
-
I think that the two "letters" from Rasor to Martin and KD are very well written ones. I don't see why this deserves its own thread.
-
In a bball team, you usually have a rotation with 5 starters, 3-5 substitutes that come in to give the starters a break, and in some teams, the 5 that close the games are not always the 5 starters. The substitutes job is usually to give the starters a break and provide some energy off the bench and they usually get praised for providing "quality minutes".Back to the zips. Can anyone name our 5 starters? 5 closers? We basically play 10 substitutes that are all planning to provide quality minutes and not mess up to stay in the rotation. When you need a basket, who will step up? the starters? we don't have any. When we're closing the game, you need a play, no one wants to be in the spotlight... having a deep rotation is a great thing. Having no rotation is not.

Before the beginning of this season, I thought we're going to dominate this "terrible conference". I was always wondering why, when we're so good, would we play the st francis, and malone of the world. While me and other fans were thinking that we were dominant, KD knew the truth. We simply are not that good. The only way we can win 20 games is to play those teams. We blew a game at Home against AP, we SUCKED against NCSU, Tx A&M, RI, Buffalo, and Can't. We also sucked against Toledo and were saved by Humpty in the second half. After each of those games, you want to remain positive and find excuses but loosing to a below average team at Home is a new low. Let's not fool ourselves, EMU was not a good team, yet we mannaged to loose to them. It is sad that more than halfway through the season, KD's still looking for the right rotation, or is he?Why does it seem than whenever a player does a good thing they get benched? Why is every one on a short leash except the McKnights? is the Lazagna in Lancaster that good? Does KD understand why the JAR is not packed for games?Rant's over.
