  1. That is an awesome video. Caleb is definitely doing his job and a little more. The rest is our job. We need bigger crowds to force a bigger stadium. If we can have 13,000 in our football games, i don't see why we wouldn't have at least half of that in our Men's soccer games.
  2. I think that one of the best things associated with the bball team over the last few years is their reputation of high character and family environment. Brooks doesn't appear to fit with the group. Knowing KD's zero tolerance attitude to BS, i say this kid must go. He may want to try out for Can't state.
  3. You can call me pessimistic or the one who rains on the parade, but shall we expect Dennis Mitchell to get a better offer and move to a BCS conference soon?
  4. I was impatient to have him commit and now i am impatient to see him play. I guess i am impossible to please. Is it November 2009 yet? $hit that's a hell of a long time.
  5. How informative !!!So how many times do we have to say that unless you're willing to give up the information, don't say nothing. :wall:I guess you just want to look "cool" and show us that you know stuff ha?
  6. Does any one know the time range when the Juniors (like Zeke) make their commitments?I hate waiting too long. When shall we expect an announcement?
  7. They are getting a free six figure education. I agree with coach K's letting them go if they cant follow the rules. As for her not commenting on the departing players statements, she is handling that correctly also. Do you really think it would be good for the program for her to spill any dirty laundry on what really happened to the media? Let them say their piece and move on. Hilltopper, with all due respect, this "following the rules" thing is a big joke that people in charge can use according to their needs. One person cannot make the rules and judge who is following them and who is not. At least not in this country, maybe in China or Sudan but not here.I would love to see the the athletic department forming a hearing committee to listen to what those girls have to say. Or maybe the university making a judicial board to hear both sides of the stoy.Let me create an analogy to something we all deal with in our daily lives:Let's say you are driving your car at 30mph on a 25mph road. you are VIOLATING THE RULES right? some cops will let you go with it, some will give you a warning, and some will even give you a ticket. How about one that will permanently suspend your driving license without no court appearance and no chance to do anything? The cop is not God and he can make a mistake or he can be a jerk or he can have a hidden agenda, that's why there is a judicial system. Coach Kest is not God either! she is not willing to convince me that those girls did anything bad. she is not commenting on what they say and i am leaning towards believing that she is the problem. And talking about dirty laundry, are you serious? does it get any dirtier?
  8. This is a load of crap... she keeps dismissing everyone for violating team rules and she doesn't want to comment on their opinions. Sounds to me like someone is confused and doesn't have a good argument. Being a student athlete is one of the best things that can happen to a person and an great experience. Coach Kest is turning the great experience of her student athletes into a living nightmare. She is not only ruinning an already struggling program but also the lives of those young ladies. In the future, any HS girl being recruited by Akron will probably be very hesitant, not only does this team not win but also you can't enjoy your experience: things happening behind doors and insecurity etc...Five players and McCoy makes six in a single year. When we recruit them, they are the best thing since sliced bread but then a year or two later, we kick them out and say that they are garbage.I don't think that's a program moving in the right direction. I am not sure what does it take to finally start pointing the finger in the right direction.
  9. Honestly i don't care what conference we play in. We have a great schedule anyways and playing the 4 or 5 other mac teams is not hurting us.Also, i will not loose my night sleep if the MAC loses the automatic bid. With the current teams coach Porter is puting on the field, we will get an at large anyways.I was never more excited about college soccer as i have been now. A new stadium is a must.
  10. Screw Jimmy McSweatervest! Whomever made the decision to have him come back is an idiot!! I ripped up my invite the minute I saw his picture. But I'm sure all you luckeye idiots will pony up the $60 to hear/see him. Finally, calling him one of 'us' is debatable. If you mean he's one of the tens of thousands of alumni who doesn't give a damn about his alma mater and who never give back, then I agree, he can be considered one of 'us'.If you think he really gives a damn about UA, you are a fool. ........Now, if the vest was available to hang around and give me the intimate details on how his lucks got run off the field the last two bowl games, I might reconsider if I got a free ticket. Like most UA alums, they really like free tickets.I find it interesting how someone can claim that so and so doesn't give a damn about such and such. Unless you have access to the University accounts and records and you actually can tell us who donates what and who doesn't, you are not entitled to foolishly categorize people. And then isn't it ironic how you talk about supporting the university and its events but then in the same post you indicate how hard it is for you to pay a $60 to attend one of those events.
  11. .. snips..Agreed on the need for some extended patience here. Hipsher & Owens got 9 years. Kest should have lots of rope. This however, I think is garbage. I'll drop the BS card on you here.It has less to do with smarts, and everything to do with effort, motivation and efficient use of your time. There's required aptitude for nursing, sure .. but it's not mutually exclusive with talent on the basketball court. You sell today's students way short to have this opinion, especially as it pertains to a sport where the "next level" aka playing professionally is not a likely possibility. One of the great things about UA and the conference in which it currently resides is the recognition that it is the UNIVERSITY of Akron, and that the athletes are STUDENT athletes. To have some idea that we're going to have a varsity sport and bring in students just to do time, play the sport and walk away with a more easily obtained degree in {put your opinion here} is foolish. My experience tutoring and TA'ng classes at a BCS school with high level athletes studying engineering successfully tells me your argument / suggestion doesn't hold water.Go Zips.I totally agree with ZW here. One of my classmates was named Torbjorn Bjorkland. He was the captain of the soccer team, best scorer in the Mac in 2001-2002. He was from Norway (add a possible language barrier here) and he got a degree in Electrical Engineering.
  12. I totally agree with you LAzipfan. Merging with Can't makes much more sense than merging with CSU. Also the two universities are extremely too close to each other (geographically) and a lot of resources can be shared. I also like the idea of a 50,000 enrollment and may be 8000 average attendance at home bball games.
  13. Akron has a bachelor, Masters and Ph D in:1 - electrical engineering2 - computer engineering3 - civil engineering4 - mechanical engineering5 - chemical engineering6 - biomedical engineering7 - mechanical polymer engineeringalso Masters and Ph D in 1 - polymer science 2 - polymer engineering.And Law school.Until Can't get those, I will always consider them a humanities/arts and science hippie school and not a comprehensive university.
  14. Lol at Mollaut The MAC already Fears Zeke? What is going to happen when he actually declares his intention to be a zip?Fear Zeke the future Zip
  15. I think that the campus community should boycott his business. Then he will beg the university to buy it for way less than $1M
  16. Senderoff was accused of committing two of the most egregious infractions -- lying to the university's enforcement staff and NCAA investigators and failing to abide by the NCAA's expected ethical standards.looks like a great fit for the high ethics program to the east.
  17. Thanks for the update ZipWatcher. One question though, you say that there was no less than 8 zips fans. Did you know that because you know them or where they visibly seen as zips fans? (geared in blue and gold?) did they cheer on Zeke and let him feel the zips love?It is great to read what you said about Zeke, only if i can have the peace of mind by knowing 100% that he will be a zip. I hope the coaches and the people in the Computer Science department keep doing a good job.
  18. Holy sit
  19. The lack of student attendance has always been on the fact that Akron is a commuter school.2 years ago the students living on campus were around 2500 students and we recently added the exchange dorms (600 beds) and the Quaker square (400?) so we should be around 3500 students living officially on campus and another 1000 living around campus (walking distance). That makes a total of 4500 students who can simply walk to the JAR if they wanted. On average, we have around 400 students in a men's babll game half of those are commuters. out of the 4500 campus students only 200-250 show up for an average bball game. That's where the work should be done.
  20. What year is that for?Do we have any scholarships left for this year?Even next year, we are targeting a big guy, i think Zeke Marshall or Regie Keely (sp?)... What am i missing? Are the coaches planning an extra scholarship if Conyers leaves?
  21. Great to have you on board! We're glad you're a part of the ZipsNation! Look forward to seeing you at the games! By the way, I hope this isn't a stupid question, but what do you mean by LET THE MOSS HEEM SHOW BEGIN?Welcome on board... i had the same question. What does that statement mean? " LET THE MOSS HEEM SHOW BEGIN?"
  22. I really don't see why would you want Can't's success to end.I would love to see them ranked # 2 in the nation as long as we are the #1. We play in the MAC and we are not going anywhere in the next 10 years so let's put that topic to rest.Do you want to be like Niagara or Austin Peay? or do you want to be like Xavier and Temple? The first two regularly win their conferences and go to the dance. However, they play in crappy arenas, 3000 supporters at best and a boring season. They get their nuts kicked in the first game of the tournament. The last two (Xavier and Temple) also win their conferences and go to the dance. But they also get to enjoy the whole season. Playing in great arenas with a great fan suupport and they get to compete in the tournament. The difference between the two choices? the competiteveness of their conferences. Here is the question you need to answer: do you want the zips to improve and be the top of a good MAC conference ? or do you want the MAC to suck so that we sit on the top just because we suck less than the rest of them?
  23. Proenza doesn't decide what's in the commercial, we have producers directors and people from the marketing department who do that. Those people are asking him to be in the commercial and he's simply accepting. Other presidents wouldn't appear in the commercials either because they're not comfortable with their acting skills or because they think that their too good to do so.While i agree that seeing him in all our commercials is geting a little old and boring, it is not his fault. The marketing people should come up with new ideas.
  24. Birdzip, please give me a break. We're talking about Can't's people commiting crimes, rapes, DUIs.Can you tell me what did those girls do? had a party? couple of drinks? what is it?None of them was in trouble with the law right? McCoy is still a student athlete right? And talking about management, when you have one or two under-achieving or bad employees you blame them, but when your whole group is under achieving, you blame their manager. That's 5 people for God's sake... a whole team of bball and all of them are good athletes who most probably will still be playing, just somewhere else.
