  1. (20)Rhode Island 83 (22)Dayton 92The game was never close.Did we give Dayton their toughest game at their arena?
  2. For the last 3 years, we've been beating MAC teams at the JAR. Not to take anything away from last saturday's game but poll voters will not change their minds after one single MAC win at home.We have to beat Miami, Ohio and Can't both home and away to become the MAC dominant team.
  3. I think that Ball state game would be a training to give the underclassman some PT.Central should not be too hard to win. Western is the one that makes me nervous.
  4. We should start by winning every home game and beat everybody in the west. We should also beat BG and Buffalo both home and away. That puts us at 11-3. Add that to our 10-3 OOC record and you get a 21-6. Now winning @miami, @Can't or @ ohio will definitely be great, but let's not loose any game that we should win. One game at a time starting next saturday.
  5. Sorry! my bad. I just know how much the Rowdies love Witherspoon.
  6. I was not there but i am pretty sure they meant reggie witherspoon (Buffalo's coach). He is such a character and the rowdies have always had fun heckling him everytime he was at the JAR.
  7. I am assuming that the (100+) high schoolers behind the one basket were in for free. You add few recruits with their families who also were invited and that's a 4300 for you.
  8. Have you noticed that Ohio (top 50 RPI) lost to BG (RPI 200+)
  9. Akron 47Miami 2117 minutes left. Am i dreaming?Mcneese has a 17 points in 23 minutes
  10. I respectfully disagree with you here:1- if by national exposure you mean that the casual fan in California or Florida finds out that there is a team called Can't state then i may agree with you. However, if you want to earn a national respect for your team and improve your recruiting abilities, i don't think that just by showing up to a game against NC, and getting killed, might i add, gets you that. 2- If you were a HS kid getting offers from both Akron and Can't, which one would you choose: a- Can't over Akron because you will get to play at Duke & NC to loose by 25 points. I will also play most of my OOC schedule away in a hostile environment with 15000 cheering against me. b- Akron over Can't because you will play against very good teams (winthrop and dayton) where you have a chance to win and compete in every game you play. You also will get to play a balanced schedule (some at home and some away).3- What does that do?4- So the only way to test your players is to demoralize them and get them killed by 25? Dayton was not enough of a test for you?5- Look at my answer for #4.
  11. I choose the first option. I don't think that playing NC on ESPN and loosing by 25 points helps your recruiting. What can you brag about? you lost by 25.I think that we don't really need to schedule paycheck games with top 10 or top 25 teams as long as we don't schedule teams with RPI of 200+.A schedule of good mid majors (winthrop, UIC, Dayton, Temple and the alikes) would be perfect unless you throw in a Binghamton and a NC central etc...
  12. I just came back from the game and here are my observations:1 - This game was closer to an NBA game than a college game. The arena is NBA caliber (12,4xx) in "paid" attendance. Great play levels from both teams and a great environment and half time show. Best thing about the arena is its parking lot and the way it is designed. More than 5000 cars were out of the lot in like 20 minutes. Amazing.2 - Basket ball speaking. This is the best zips performance i have ever seen. Perfect coaching, perfect substitutions and perfect dicipline from the players.3 - Dayton fans are some of the nicest people you may see. Very decent people, welcoming and knowledgeable. I had very nice conversations before the game with a lot of educated fans. Even after the game, almost 10 people told me how we have a great team and wished me a great season. Me and my party (5 total) were standing up, yelling and screaming with each zips play. No body behind us complained or reacted. (Try that at OU or Can't).The only thing was when the regulation time ended, we started an "over-rated" chant, i saw one (only one) middle finger from the Dayton fans. 4 - Now our players:* Dials: Amazing general of the floor. Huge at clutch time free throws. great deffender. * J-wood: Struggled in the first 8 minutes but found his rythym and was the go-to guy in the last minutes and both OT periods. He probably scored 70% of our OT points. He was sometimes unable to keep up with his defensive assignment though.* Cedrick: He kept us in the game with his threes in the first half when Dayton seemed to be breaking away. He couldn't get away from his deffender in the second half and he was almost non existing. Too many unnecesary fouls. Was missed in OT.* Linhart: really lived up to his nickname (MVP). He absolutely neutralized Dayton's best player (which i think was the difference tonight). With or without the ball, best player on both sides of the court IMHO.* Mcnees: has grown a lot tonight. Maybe two years. Starting tonight, i think of him as a junior and not a freshman. Excellent decision making with the ball and good shot. His best moment was when he positionned himself to draw a charge right under Dayton's basket.* Bardo: A project in progress. Scored the first bucket of the game. A special coach should spend extra time with him and Sweich in practice.* Quade: Nice athleticism, a couple of block shot. great execution at the end of the half. However, cannot initiate anything on offense and does not have the confidence and the leadership of a senior.* Chris Mcknight: very disappointing, like the only bad thing about tonight.* Brett Mcknight, Connyers and Roberts: Nothing to say... didn't play enough.
  13. I am not too greedy, i am willing to pay if they have video feeds online. Just give some one a camera and have a streaming freaking video.I was able to see the whole Alaska tournament, AP, Winthrop... only home games are not broadcasted. Embarrasing.
  14. Flyer, do you usually sell out? can i get a ticket if i show up an hour before the game or shall i call now and buy my tickets or shall i not bother at all?
  15. Jump in a car and drive to Dayton. less than 4 hours drive. Should be worth it.
  16. I am heading there. I will try to sit behind our bench. Hope to see you all there.
  17. I don't consider UIC to be a weak game. Remember that we lost to them last year.Their RPI is i think around 120.If we have a bunch of UICs instead of the NC central, NC A&T and Binghamton, we would have been in a much better situation.
  18. What!!! You are saying that you are sure that some of our players did not want to win! If you are sure of that than something should be done... that is a serious problem. Same with the bball players cheering for OSU. Mack should take some serious action here. I remember 2 years ago, i was a student in the college of engineering, the ABJ was making a story about one of the projects in the college (challenge X), one of the students they talked to (who also appeared in a picture) was sporting an OSU shirt. The dean of the college was very firm about that and made it heard that when you are associated with anything representing the University, you are not allowed to wear the gear of other schools. That's not the point, i don't care if Akron was a dumpster or what kind of facilities did we have. The guy decided to come to Akron and play here. end of the story.
  19. Sounds good for a beginning.I will be in Akron this saturday, i can help manning the sign up table. For all of you unsigned oldies reading this, look for the table in the UIC game.I think that the oldies should have their own arrangements. Like if we have an e-mail list, We can send emails to all members before games so that we all meet somewhere (like BW3) before the games and arrange to sit together during the games etc...
  20. Thanks Don and the rest of the oldies, rowdies and general zipsfan. Although there shouldn't be anyone who's left out. If you're not a rowdy, you should be an oldy right?what are you oldies waiting for?Don, do you have a count of how many signed up oldies we currently have?Do we have a sign up table at the bball games?
  21. Thanks spike, well said.I still have bitterness in my mouth from our game last year. We lost a close game to you guys when our best inside player (jeremiah wood) was injured.I strongly feel that losing that game is what kept us out of the NIT in March.I can absolutely relate to what you're saying about playing U of I at united. I am not for playing home games at the Q (formerly known as the gund arena) but even if we do play there, we should be playing an out of state team, not OSU, not cinci, and not even pitt. Any other big ten or big east or butler maybe would be fine.
  22. Do not settle for reading the story online. We have to buy paper copy/copies of the ABJ. It would be nice if they notice an increase in their sales when zips related stories are published.
  23. Thank you very much! That was going to be my next question though, who is your Athletic Director and where does he sit at the games; so I can go ask him why we have this matchup in mens and womens basketball, but not in football.Should be a decent showing of YSU fans over there on a Friday Night.. cya!I'll give you the answer, because you have a DI-A basket ball team which you don't have in football.
  24. I actually saw that result bit i didn't know how good houston is... that is why i didn't make a big deal out of it.You're saying that they are as good as BG? then how did coach Kest get them to come to the JAR?
  25. I am watching the video feed. Not really sure but the attendance looks ok to me.The team is not looking very good. It is a J-wood only show so far.
