So here i am watching the game, mildly cheering for OSU (For the simple reason that even though OSU is not my team, Florida isn't either) and i because i can relate more to the Bucks than the Gators...However, right after the end of the game, in the evening news on Fox8, the Anchor goes:"Well, it is a disappointing loss, but it was a good season. BBall season is around the corner, we can all start cheering for the OSU bball team" We are taken for granted just because we live in the state of ohio... and even though fox 8 broadcasts in NEO, the vikings, zips and flushes can all go to hell.I am starting to feel with bobbyake, rowdy zips and zips fan.

It is obvious that we should have taken the ball in the paint especially in a night when the threes were not falling. The reasons why that didn't happen are 2:1 - what bleacher bum mentionned about the many steals... it was soo bad to the extent that Bubba (who has doesn't play defense) got two steals.2 - Even when Rome and J-wood got the ball inside, they got canned quite few times. I believe that leon williams and tillman got 2-3 blockshots each on our big guys (no fouls called). After that, they seemed to give up on going inside.
-
eguins man you didn't get 1000 to attend a home bball game against us...
-
Are you talking about the Cleveland Cavs, the team on the top of the NBA eastern conference ?
-
All right we will... currently, there is no one on our roster who is trashy enough to play with you guys.

In fact, i was impressed with the numbers... in a winter break game, in the night before their bowl game they had a crowd that is good enough to sell out the JAR...Talking about classless people, some of the ozoners, after they saw us being rowdy in the first half, they left their seats during the half time break, and came to our section and started throwing stuff at us and act stupid. The worst part of it is that 0-zoners can go towards anyone in their seats and push them around... no ushers and no one will tell them to stay away from the reserved seats. I guess that this is how things work in hillbilly land.

This is going to be an exact replica of what happened last year. At athens, we lead most of the game, they pulled a very close win by five in the end. At the JAR, we destroy them by some 15 points where they never take the lead. At the Q, we win a tight one for the MACC.
-
In my opinion, the game in Athens will be a tossup that either sides can win it while the game at Akron is an easy W for akron. This means that Akron is a better team. The o-zoners will be good as usual, i hope i can find some zipfans on Saturday to join me showing the zips some love.

This is what one guy wrote under why i hate akron:Posted: Wed Jan 03, 2007 5:29 am Post subject: Re: Reasons Why I hate Akron --------------------------------------------------------------------------------ysuwin wrote: 10. WTF is a Zip? 9. Their basketball arena is nothing more then a high school gym8. We are their daddys when it comes to sports7. Only Akron could fail to use rubber for something else then tires (cough cough)6. Our Football program owns them, and we have 20 less scholarships5. Their new stadium still won't be as nice as Stamabugh4. They think there good at everything, when really they are good at nothing3. They think the MAC is good2. Even their own newspapers rip on them for not having the balls to play a I-AA school in YSUThe number one reason I hate Akrondrum rollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllThe Rubber Bowl is nothing more then a waste dump, that not even high school football teams like playing in, and the idiots from Akron thinks it is nice This is my reply:10- why the hell you care?9 - So is yours... they are good enough for our schools in the NEO area and the conferences we play in.8 - yeah right ! Tonight's game can only prove you right... if that's not enough, read this from the YSU pregame release:"Akron holds a 52-31 series edge by winning15 of the last 16 games dating backto March 1987."7 - nice !6 - look @ no:8.5 - did you see that in your crystal ball? the stadium is not even there yet.4 - at least we're good at getting our facts straight. look at no 8 again.3 - we don't care about the MAC, as far as we are concerned we destroy CSU, YSU and WSU from the horizon league year in year out.2 - you have a typo in your statement, change "balls" into "time" and you get a good statement.1 - that's totally not true, we all know that the RB is an ailing stadium and that is why a new stadium is on the way. Now, allow me to tell you why you hate Akron. There is only one reason and that is because you are jealous !_________________Sir, you're diagnozed with "Roophobia", you fear the Roo.

Just got back from the game, i wish all the away games would be within an hour drive, but anyways. After reading eguins and indians posts about ysu team and their state of the art beghlee stadium or whatever it is called, i was so pumped up and thought that i was heading to a great night... getting there, that side of the campus with a brand new rec center and a football stadium surrounding a very good looking beghlee center looked very impressive. However, as soon as i stepped in, things started to become disappointing. The bball stadium from inside is not very impressive and someone sitting in the GA high bleachers would not see the "stone age" score board because of some basketball boards in the way. So you basically have to keep track of the score on a piece of paper. The environment was more like a HS game than a college one. The attendance was of no more than 2000 people, amongst which i would say 800 were zips fans. The stadium was so quiet at times that i could clearly hear what the refs are calling from my high general admission seat. There was no penguin or any YSU mascott, their dance team was made of 6 girls, cheer leaders, 6 girls and 3 boys, a band of 8-10.They never tied the game after the 0-0 mark and the difference was as much as 19 points, and the closest they got in the second half was 7 points. As a result, i can officially say that the youngstown experiment has shown that there is an indisputable evidence that it is not that YSU is good but rather it is that which reinforces the theoretical results that we all knew long time ago.Technically speaking, Quade and Nate played great bball. Romeo and J-wood were up and down. Conyers, Dials and Joyce, cedrick were average-solid, McKnight was lost. coach Dambrot, very smart, great moves and game plans.See you all in Athens, this is going to be our hardest MAC game of the season, if we win it, we might go undefeated in the mac. Allright that's a long shot, but seriously i cannot think of a harder MAC game than @ ohio.

Racer, you remind me of that commercial where "people almost donated for the homeless and poor people."We're good now, not great yet but good. we had a chance to be great by beating Nevada, we didn't... we will be great if we can beat Ohio away but that's another "if".One thing for sure, our team (just like most college teams) play waaaaay better at home than away. The best thing we can do is to provide a home game environment at close away games.we need to travel in masses to Youngstown and ohio next week... and take it one game at a time.
-
I am driving to Youngstown for the game with a friend. I have room for 2 more zips fans in the car. We will leave for the game 90-120 minutes before the game and come back directly after the game ends.I can pick you up from campus or else from east Akron. Drop you at the same spot after the game.I am not going to ask you to chip in for anything. I will pay for gas and parking myself because i am going to pay that with/without you... you only have to pay for your tickets. If any one is interested, please PM or email me.PS: I am a safe, non alcoholic, driver.

Bleacher bum, i am planning to be there for the game. I will be in tennessee for a couple of days and i am planning to make the trip back in such a way to be in Athens game time.
-
I am sorry to hear about your frustration and i hope that you can still try to convince your friend into spending your evening at the JAR tonight. My explanantion is the following:The university is technically closed the whole week between christmas and new year. The ticket office will open only for the games. People in your situation usually call in and reserve (will-call) tickets or buy them jsut before the game. I am not trying to defend them or anything but from a cost effectiveness point of view, it doesn't make too much sense to pay some one to come and stay in the office the whole "off" week hoping to sell few extra tickets.

It pisses me off to remember that we were so capable of beating them in Mt. pleasant. 2 Huge mistakes from Getsy, he gave threw an interception at the 3 yard line with 12 seconds remaining in the 1st half that they returned for a 97 yard TD as the time expired. And then as the clock was running out in the end of the game, he overthrew a wide open Tuzze in the end zone. After all that, playing such a great team at their home, we only lost be 3.how did our season turn so bad starting at Can't game?
-
As you probably all know, we're playing @youngstown the second day of the new year. Last year, we beat them in a very close game that was our season home opener. This year, they beat Can't in Can't, which shows that not only but also youngstown have a great team. We all know how much better our team plays in front of friendly crowds (30-2) home record. Youngstown is only 50 minutes away and we should definitely show up and show the zips some love.

This is not about captain and his loyalty and niceness... I personally agree with zipster's point. Let's compare JD and KD:JD is waiting for the first offer to take another job.KD is a local guy who clearly states that he is staying here even if Duke offers him a job.JD has a brand new practice facility, and is the only decent D1 team in NEO which gives him an edge in recruiting KD has no edge as far as practice facility, and has so many decent programs in the area to compete with (Can't state, youngstown state).JD had only one half decent season (i insist on the "half") in which all the odds worked for him to end up as a MAC champion.KD has taken the program from loosing record into a consistently winning program that teams don't want to come play us in the JAR. (30-2) home record under KDI have nothing against JD, but comparing the loves that JD gets on this board, I think that KD deserves a lot more than what he currently get.

I just don't see where Romeo bloomed over the last two seasons. To me, he is the same player he was as a sophomore. Decent scorer and rebounder, pretty good passer, pretty good defense...rarely takes a game over...shoots poorly from the line...solid all-around but not spectacular in any facet of the game. Is he really that much better than he was as a sophomore, and if so, in what way? Maybe I'm just not seeing it... When i said the last 2 seasons i meant his sophomore ans junior years.
-
I don't have any information but i am affraid that Romeo has issues with J-wood. Something like what Bubba and Nick Dials had. In their freshman year, J-wood was starting and Romeo was the subs. Romeo bloomed in the last 2 seasons when J-wood was sidelined by the injury. This year, he scored 24 when J-wood was out. and he was suspended the next game!!!! I hope i am wrong but this idea is crossing my mind.
-
There is no freakin way UIC could have beaten us if J-wood was on the court.

Great game overall...the announced attendance of 3302 is disappointing but the environment was electric. A lot of credits goes for the rowdies, around me, lots of people lost their voices, and were sweating from jumping up and down and making noise.Too bad we lost the game, looking back, we did some unforced turnovers, and we were the victims of bad calls but the bottom line, had Romeo made 3/5 FT which is a normal 60% FT%, the game would have been tied. If he made 4/5, which is a decent but very common 80% FT%, we would have one.At this point, the OOC games don't matter anymore, we are not going to get an at large bid by beating Winston Salem, Niagara and Youngstown... the zips have to grab that MAC championship to get the big dance ticket.

...but if they assumed you celebrated Christmas and wished you a Merry Christmas rather than Happy Holiday, it would be on the front page of the Beacon! As I stood in line to pick up my tickets tonight, I spoke to two different people wearing OSU gear to the game. All I said was "I expect that you will stop by the Sips Team Store to replace that OSU shirt with an Akron shirt before you leave tonight seeing as you are at an Akron game and not a Buckeyes game." Both gave me a very confused look.I was in Summit Mall recently and saw a kiosk selling automobile floor mats with college teams on them. Of course OSU was represented, but so was Ohio U and Miami (OH). I asked the guy working it if he had any Zips mats. When he replied 'no' I said, "You are in a mall in Akron, Ohio and you don't have any Akron mats to sell? And you have two of our rival schools for sale?" Again I got that dumb , confused look. Thank you Fear the roo for speaking what's on my mind.Just like you i noticed a similar place in the summit mall selling college sports gear. After looking for maybe 25 minutes and finding all D1 schools except akron, i headed towards the cashier and this converstion happened between us:me: How much are you selling those football jerseys for?him: $50me: great ! give me 10 zips' jerseys...him: zips ! do we have any zips jerseys?me: are you asking me ? this is your store...him: i don't think we have those...me: well forgive me for assuming that akron stores would have akron gear...him: we have antonio pittman's jersey, he grew up in copley, 3 miles from here.me: good for you, i am looking for zips stuff. Now those of you who know me, would know that i am a broke ass college student who could barely afford one of those jerseys... i just feel that those people should understand that they're loosing business by not having Zips stuff. Now that i think of it, i wonder what would i have done if he went in the back and brought me 10 jerseys and asked me for $500+tax... luckily, he didn't.

Zips vs Nevada Predictions? The line?
Valpo Zip replied to RowdyZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
To win this game, all the pieces should fall in place...rowdiest rowd on both sides (and that's our job)...also Romeo has to bring his A defense and post play, J-wood must get 10 rebounds and defend like a beast. Dru, no turnovers and a couple of threes, Nick must really dial those threes. Cedrick with 3-4 steals and fast break points. And finally whoever plays SF should finally get a clue.We need all that to happen in order for us to win. -
At this point, the only thing we can do is show up in huge numbers and occuppy both ends. Now the only situation we can complain about is if we have rowdies who show up and still cannot have seats because they're sold. Other than that... the AD will appear to have made the right decision.

Something like missing practice or disrespecting coaches or teammates !
