  1. Please inform us when football is moving in a worse position than currently, so we can all grab our hari-kari knives.
  2. ++ I'm looking forward to seeing where Reggie emerges. He could become another life-long assistant, but he's been a HC since his JC days, and I hope he gets picked up somewhere. He has a HC's temperment. On Bobby Hurley, this may be misinterpreted, but I wish him and the Bulls the best (I suppose Reggie created a good vibe, similar to Charlie Coles in Oxford). I had a friend who was a D-2 coach in Hawaii, and left to be an AD in CA. His first act was to name the just-graduated UCLA PG Cameron Dollar as his head BB coach. It was a successful choice. although Dollar only stayed a couple years, it brought needed publicity. Bobby Hurley? Instant recognition!
  3. Are you referring to the Blair Walsh Project That broadcast made me lose a LOT of respect (and I didn't have that much to begin with) for CBS College Basketball coverage. These guys spend all season doing Big Ten and other High Major conferences, and then watch a few minutes of tape of the mid-major whose game they're broadcasting. No wonder we get no respect. They don't do their jobs! Maybe if Clark Kellogg had done the game, he at least would have remembered that we kicked butt on the team his kid plays for!
  4. This just in: George Mason is the newest member of the Atlantic-10. And the only schools they will be able to compete with in basketball (immediately at least) are Duquesne and St Bonaventure. In my mind, the GMU move is over-exuberance left over from one final-four appearance. If Larranaga were still there, they MIGHT be more competitive, but it still looks like a bad decision, and a drop off for the overall A-10.
  5. I hear that LeBron tweeted his kudos yesterday to "Florida Golf Coast".
  6. OCCUPY MOTOWN, BABY!!!
  7. Now why would you bring THAT up? Go Zips. Get a 20-point lead at the half!
  8. I'd say they got hosed by their own strategy last night. No way they are going to beat St Mary's without any effort at transition. They played right into SMC's hands.
  9. Dave, I am fully convinced of one thing -- to defeat VCU we must not only AVOID turnovers, we must CREATE! Zips gotta play better Deeee-Fence than the opponent!
  10. Hoisten started two seasons at Garfield. He averaged 17.0 points, 10.3 rebounds and 4.9 steals per game as a senior, and he was a second-team All-City Series selection. He averaged 8.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game as a junior. “Marietta wanted him and recruited him hard,” Garfield coach Harold Ickes said. “I don’t think he was content at that level. He wanted to try (Division I). Okay! Now I knew that name sounded familiar. Who woulda thunk, Garfield's basketball coach was a Bull Moose!
  11. V. interesting! (And sorry for the late reply, I just saw this one) Wonder what Marcie Alberts is doing now. She was a fantastic combo guard for the Buckeyes, an all-American, who played on their national championship team. Could make a good college coach, if she wants it.
  12. What I didn't mention was that the Maybelline Crew was calling the MACC. It seemed like (late in the game, at least) as many calls were make-up calls for what they knew were the wrong original calls. This is just one example, but right after Tree's tech, the very next call was a dermatological violation against OU on the next play. In fact, it seemed that many of these occured during the final ten minutes when Akron started to pull away. Not to say that the officials helped Akron any, but they sure didn't help Ohio any either -- maybe that's proof of their unbiased incompetence. Personally, I would rather refs not try to make up for a bad call -- but it's just too common, and just digs them a deeper hole.
  13. Sock it to 'em, Dee-Mee-Tree-Us!
  14. I don't know about missed calls, but at the threat of having this post become desaparecido, I need to chime in in tune with akronzips71. Not that the officials were biased -- they really were atrocious at both ends of the court. No consistency at all -- allowing hard play at times, then calling bare or not-at-all contact fouls. BUT -- I also watched about a half dozen other mid-to-low major games (like the 5:30 am HST NEC championship matchup between Vermont and Albany, and the last Saturday night game, the Big West showdown between Pacific vs UC-Irvine) -- and the officiating was at least as bad, if not worse than the MACC. There is just a huge canyon of ability between the high major conference officiating and the rest of the NCAA. Not sure what can be done about that, but that's the reality of college basketball officiating today. And I'm not even mentioning Jim Foote!
  15. You'd better get more than touches, coach. For Akron to win, Zeke has to fight his way to the hoop, and put it down hard -- starting early for the psychological advantage. IOW, do what Alajuwon was unable to do vs NC State in that title game (a few years ago -- wasn't that documentary wild?).
  16. Well, the ESPN talent crew made a big thing out of DemeTreeous'es hosiery. They were especially hyperbolic about the Hawaiian luau socks he had on during Friday's semi-finals. Anybody catch a shot of those? I might like to find a pair myself on eBay.
  17. Can't find much about him. Appears he was born in London to Ugandan parents. Been with Chelsea Youth since age 12 (will be 18 May 1). Used at attacking mid and withdrawn forward. Two goals in 10 games with Chelsea Academy. Well, that's a little.
  18. If I take off from work an hour early, I can see the entire game. Sorry boss! Good thing is that the game is (listed as) broadcast on CBS. We HAVE that station in Hawai'i! One of them I couldn't get last year.
  19. NO RESPECT!!! That's what the guys gotta take on the court -- that attitude. AND...who says we can't create some HAVOC of our own? Go ahead, Keith make that Shaka guy take some of his own medicine! Pressure 90 feet!!!
  20. There are now 64 teams in the WNIT field -- so we will be in. The bracket is usually announced very late on the night that the NCAA selection occurs (Monday). I was familiar with it when it started out as an 8-team field. OK -- I forget, it may have been 16 teams. Akron did play in this event in Cheryl Bowles' freshman season I believe -- after Can't got upset at losing the MACC and put up a hissy fit. I would be upset if Akron is not in the top half of the field. I don't know whether they have a shot at the home court -- but since the AD has to put in the bid credentials and say how much $$ they can put up front (attendance/box office), I wouldn't be counting on it. Sorry Gozips, but we are in the MAC for the DURATION!
  21. When does the schedule for times and TV networks come out? Whoever finds it, please post it HERE. Comments: I can't believe we got the '12'! That makes me think that we would have gotten an at-large even if we had lost to Ohio -- IF we had beaten either Can't or Buffalo last week. Can't believe how bad the Pac-12 got screwed. Their champions, Oregon got the same seed as Akron!
  22. Fingers crossed to meet Dionne, Keith and a hungry troupe of Zippers! If SLC, I might make it. Spokane? Not likely, unless I can drive from SeaTac.
  23. I don't believe what I'm reading! Rudy Avsec tries a three with the lead??? Yes -- please, Walsh! make it two possessions.
