Gensler's 2025 recruiting class includes Kailee Bransford, whose sister KK was two-time Ohio Miss Basketball at Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame and plays for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in South Bend. Interesting!

I never met Gerry in person. Only attended one of his games, when Terry Forbes' McKinley team whooped Moeller in the snow at the Rubber Bowl for the OHSAA title. However I know what a truly fine man he was. I attended the Notre Dame game versus Hawai'i at Aloha Stadium in the early '90s. Several Notre Dame fans saw my AKRON ZIPS cap and came up to tell me we were fortunate to have a great guy and leader of men as our football coach! But an even more personal story occurred around that same time just around 1990 or '91. I used to call a service that you would call on your land-line phone and listen to college basketball and football games -- it was HQ'ed in Akron. Well after a while I got the idea it would be cheaper to call Akron's radio station myself (WHLO then) and listen to the games. I called and they would put me on hold so I could hear the broadcast. About the third time I called the receptionist asked for my phone number. I thought she meant in case I was cut off she could call back. But about a week later I got a call about 5:00 Hawai'i time (10 or 11 in the evening in Ohio. After answering, the voice on the other end said "Hello, this is coach Gerry Faust. I hear you've been calling the station to hear our games! I just wanted to thank you for being such a great fan". I almost peed my pants! Again, late at night a college football coach makes a cold call to a stranger to just say thanks. That's the kind of guy Gerry Faust was!

In a galaxy far, far away shall live a Jedi master. A future ancestor of Wan Kuzri Wan Kamal, named Obi Wan Kenobi. It shall be stated that Obi Wan's light saber skills are a throwback to the left-footed power of his grand ancestral footballer relative in the Mid-Rim territories, including the pitch at First Energy Stadium, Jääskeläinen Field as the facility should be known in galactic football havens such as Tatooine and Coruscant.

Emil is now unanimous Big East Offensive Player of the Year for 2024. In his Hermann Trophy campaign I propose we call him Emil Jääskeläinen, The Finnisher!

The total is now eleven games unbeaten. The last loss was on Sep. 14 to Temple. 🏆 anyone?

Charles Guthrie has resigned
Z.I.P. replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
10-3-4 and close to the top of power ratings nationally in the football we care about in this forum. Charles is not what anyone would call a Great Communicator. He never ingratiated himself to the core Zips fans or alumni, but these are tough times both financially and politically at the university and he got caught up in more than he probably bargained for. I wish Charles all the best in his and his family's future. -

Regarding players with accumulated yellow cards (4?). Is Mitch Budler one of those players? I've seen a reference on social media that Brett Kaminski will play. Not sure of accuracy -
Trailing 1-0 at halftime. But if we lose, we can say it's because the ref is a PCCC alum! https://www.linkedin.com/in/ali-zolgharnain-aic-m-ains-752501a1?trk=public_post_main-feed-card-text

Two years ago Creighton's Forward Duncan McGuire won the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy. With Jaaskelainen being head-and-shoulders ahead of anyone else for Big East POY, I would expect him to receive support from within the conference. Hopefully the UA athletic department will/can work with the Big East to help promote our conference's candidate.

To win titles, this is what you must do.. occasionally. But you must play consistently good football, something that's difficult for this team. 😒 -

We now have a road draw vs pre-season #2 Notre Dame, and a road victory vs Georgetown which was pre-season top-5. Question: What's the all-time record between the Zips and Hoyas? That's our first win vs them in Big East competition, correct? -

Rachel Wirts is a player I'm wondering about. She was offered by Melissa as a soph., pretty sure her first D1 offer. She's still following our (new) coaches on Twitter, has an offer from Tulsa. Not sure if any others, but she's getting good press on the AAU circuit. Anyone know how many open scholarships we have available currently?
