Thing here is, Iona (pre-Pitino at least) wasn't a promotion over Fairleigh Dickinson. Not sure how IU gets alot more $$ for coaches (rich Catholic alumni? 😁) My only past knowledge of FDU was seeing them beat Hipsher's team for 7th place in a tournament in Honolulu in 2000, and that the Adidas 3-Star camp used to be held there -- Sonny Vaccaro & Co.

My best case scenario would be to get a top assistant from one of those always-ranked mid-major programs like UWGB, Missouri State, Gonzaga, etc., or a top young up-and-coming coach from that area. I did mention earlier Chelsea Lyles the Assoc HC to Karl Smesko at FGCU. She's going to be a great head coach some day and we'd might as well get her first. I expect Megan Vogel to take over for Borseth in a couple years. How about the coach at Cleveland State? She came in and moved her team way up the ranks very quickly. One hope I would have is that the new coach maintain the strategic style that Jodi Kest brought that everybody needs to be a shooter and the first player with an open 3-pointer takes it. That's the way the game has developed and how mid-majors beat P-5s.

I mentioned Lanae a few weeks ago. She was probably the most heavily recruited player in the Akron area by Melissa Jackson. Signed with MTSU, played in just 6 games for nationally ranked team. She was offered by KSU and Miami from the MAC and a few mid-majors (Duquesne, St. Bonaventure, etc.). Don't know if there is any coach left behind who's recruiting. When Kest left, Jackson continued recruiting.

The logic here is that if other schools start offering Jamisyn, that's a sign Faith is gone. If Faith doesn't short circuit it earlier by announcing the portal. I'm frustrated that Faith seemed to be misused this year as almost exclusively a 3-point shooter. She was so strong on the inside in HS.

On the day that Enrique Freeman announces he's returning to Akron for his senior season John Groce should be awarded the 2024 MAC Coach of the Year Award. This dude honestly could star at just about any school in America. I can see Nate Oats dialing his number right now!

If I'm not mistaken I was listening to an Akron radio broadcast on FB Live and there was a PSA or non-profit "ad" that Enrique voiced. Not sure if that constitutes NIL income. All that I've seen at ANY mid-major school is athletes with sites selling hoodies, t-shirts and PJs with their logo/face or similar. Greg Tribble's was nice, and < $20.

Kent was and is the better team. They defeated Toledo with the same force they defeated Akron -- overwhelming numbers of excellent players. They lose 3 or 4 starters next season? The MAC will be up for grabs again!

If there is a mass exodus, this might be the first sign. Jamisyn Stinson is a top 5-10 junior in Ohio and was offered by Melissa a year ago. No other offers appeared after that. Still looks like just Akron's offer on the table.
