  1. Kind of surprised no one is coming to the fairly obvious conclusion from this signing. A former 3-star doesn't come to a MAC school unless he thinks he has a serious chance of playing right away. With the way Woodson's season ended there has to be some question about his future, and this just adds weight to the Woodson skepticism. There should be a 3-way battle for the starting QB position in the spring and summer, and I see that as a positive development -- we're lucky to have 3 talented guys, even if none of them is currently seen as a sure-fire star.
  2. Anyone know whose record he broke. My brother used to talk about lining up for Green against Ellett Orangeman Larry Csonka.
  3. Oh, THAT'S who that streak was! Wow!
  4. Yes -- but you've never been to the Diamond Head Classic, where every fan receives a complimentary mai-tai on admission, and Z.I.P. sings "The Hawaiian Christmas Song" on Christmas morning. "Mele Kalikimaka is the way we say Merry Christmas, on a bright Hawaiian Christmas Day."
  5. Sitting here, watching Stephen Austin play Southern Miss in the Diamond Head Classic and having a good laugh at the discussion of basketball history. I followed the Miners for many years when they and my Rainbow Warriors were in the WAC together. Between 1984 and 1992, Haskins teams played in the NCAA tournament 8 times in 9 seasons. They went downhill after his retirement. That was about 20 yrs ago. They've gone so far down that they are now coached by former USC scandalized coach Tim Floyd. On the other hand, MES is one of a handful of schools to never play in the NCAA tournament. You're welcome.
  6. Actually interested in hearing the commercials on the game broadcast. Sully's Tool Shed has become Sully's Tool and Party Rental! Sully's was sponsoring the games when I was a little kid in the 60s, I swear. Is South Akron Awning still around? Ha ha ha!
  7. I don't know, BUT in the first half yesterday, French said that more than one player (sounded like Isaiah and maybe Noah) were suffering from stomach flu. Maybe that's why those UC-I bigs were pushing Big Dog around so much! lol
  8. The game is on the Fox Sports channel. 58-40? I was,so busy I just turned it on (at 5:45 HST.) Who's scoring -- sounds like Big Ant is lighting it up again.
  9. There seems to be a discrepancy over the ONLY way to follow tonight's game vs U. MD-ES. First off, unlike last night, there appears to be NO stats or gametracker for tonight. Last night, they were using the CBS Sports gametracker with fine, detailed statistical information -- now Nada! Secondly, the radio broadcast link from the GoZips.com game notes goes to WHLO, while last night's game was broadcast on Fox 1350 (WARF?). Try the link provided: http://www.gozips.com/sports/mbkb/2016-17/releases/20161222k6f5tz I think the schedule page has the link to Fox Sports Radio. Hope one works, as at least Frenchy is worthwhile. He was so honest about the ticky-tack calls both ways last night. Didn't hesitate to call it out when Akron got the advantage of a bad call, which happened several times, it seemed.
  10. Oregon State made a miracle 3 at the buzzer to take a 27-26 lead over KSU at halftime. Shot much like the one Washington made at the final buzzer last Saturday night that beat WMU. Oh, the Broncos played a good first half against #-- (fill in the blank) UCLA and trails by 12, 45-33. Western actually led for about six minutes, before the Bruins woke up. Western, as usual is a very game ball club. I've always been a Steve (Minion) Hawkins fan.
  11. 2013. We might have another chance vs USC -- the California one -- in next year's Diamond Head Classic.
  12. Not! Maryland Eastern Shore!
  13. Dunk by PokeMon puts Akron up by 6!
  14. Halftime, Buffalo trailing Robert Morris 37-30. Sheesh.
  15. That was a fairly typical half of Big-West style basketball. They have guards who can run you into the ground for a while, but they end up running themselves into turnovers. Irvine probably has the best forecourt in the league, but I suspect Big Dog will take over in the second half.
  16. See my post on Dylan Swingle. But he's class of 2018. Worth waiting for.
  17. Re: The Sun Bowl Association's no-streaming policy, this is a proprietary situation similar to what has developed with University of Hawaii football. The university has a pay-per-view contract with a cable system -- which people pay a couple hundred dollars for the season package, and the contract states they have sole-source broadcast rights which precludes any live streaming of games. Opposing fans and schools are repeatedly angry and have ridiculed the UH for their inability to view any non-nationally broadcast games here. I guess the Sun Bowl has a similar deal with UTEP. What can you do, when a local org prevents the road fans from watching?
  18. I watched the Broncos play @UWashington last weekend. They led most of the game before going cold the last 3-4 minutes and losing by single digits. Washington has a freshman guard, Markelle Fultz who is virtually as good as Lonzo Ball of UCLA. However, the Huskies have nothing else --and I mean NOTHING. They couldn't beat their women's team without Fultz. As far as WMU playing the Bruins at Pauley Pavilion, that is a close homecoming for Coach Hawkins. He grew up in Ventura County, and while this may be hard to believe, he is a surfer. Imagine a minion on a surf board! I'll give WMU 30 points unless the Alfords are in the giving spirit.
  19. Last night my TV guide had K-ent State @Oregon St listed at 6:00 on PAC-12 Net. So, as I was surfing channels searching for the game that is actually tonight(!), I passed through Fox College Sports Atlantic, and Voila! I hit "Zips Basketball With Keith Dambrot" and Joe Dunn. Only caught the last few minutes, including a feature with the Zips answering the question "What would you be doing if you weren't a basketball player?" Wasn't aware that Noah was a striker previously. Call Coach Embick, someone! The show repeats nationally twice more this week. Good for recruiting, as I haven't seen any other MAC or regional coaches shows on Fox regional TV -- not even for Thad Matta's club. Edit: BTW -- If KSU can't beat the Beavers they should quit, as OSU is a pathetic excuse for a PAC-12 team, losing last week at home to Savannah State.
  20. I once asked GT if he was coming to Hawai'i for the (2013) Diamond Head Classic. His response was that in a past job he was required to travel to road games, and he made sure when he took the BJ job that that wasn't in the plans. He does NOT like to travel away from family and home. Fair enough. But what does it say about his employer, if they have no traveling reporter for the #HomeTeam. Well, that's always been their priority.
  21. I missed the Marshall game due to the busy holiday season. I wondered why nobody brought up the memorable -- for the wrong reasons, which were part of the Hipsher Era -- game the two teams played on March 1, 2002 (had to look it up in the NCAA recordbook). That Saturday night, in front of a (by today's standards) large crowd of guessing around 4500, Marshall beat the Zips on the single-handed performance of guard Ronald Blackshear. Blackshear came within one of tieing the all-time record for three-point baskets in a game, by making 14 treys -- and set the NCAA mark with 11 consecutive made three-point field goals, as the Herd came from behind to beat the Zips something like 102-87 (?). We did have a strong finish to the first-half and led by -- guessing here -- 56-52 at halftime. That was the final regular season game, and the team went to WMU and won a MAC tournament play-in game, before being beaten at the Q by BGSU. Memories...
  22. Skip, the University of Hawaii has had a system for several years -- on their internal ticket website -- that allows people to sell game tickets they do not intend to use. The system was adapted from what many other universities were doing. It's probably been in use for 10 years now, though I've never used it myself. There must be a way for the U of A to incorporate something like this, if they just try. Are they willing and interested, is the question.
  23. Missing a local player is one thing. Letting him go to our rival is another! Hurry and build that wall with Canada! http://verbalcommits.com/players/jayvon-graves
  24. Kid averaged 8.7 ppg as a freshman at Moanalua HS, 1/4 mile from my house. If I'd known, I'd have jumped on the recruiting bandwagon. But, he probably wouldn't have been KD's kind of player, as shown in the non-recruiting of Evan Payne. Still can't get over that one
  25. Okay, I forgot his homegrown "rights". Another way to control players' freedom, even before they join the league!
