  1. I once asked GT if he was coming to Hawai'i for the (2013) Diamond Head Classic. His response was that in a past job he was required to travel to road games, and he made sure when he took the BJ job that that wasn't in the plans. He does NOT like to travel away from family and home. Fair enough. But what does it say about his employer, if they have no traveling reporter for the #HomeTeam. Well, that's always been their priority.
  2. I missed the Marshall game due to the busy holiday season. I wondered why nobody brought up the memorable -- for the wrong reasons, which were part of the Hipsher Era -- game the two teams played on March 1, 2002 (had to look it up in the NCAA recordbook). That Saturday night, in front of a (by today's standards) large crowd of guessing around 4500, Marshall beat the Zips on the single-handed performance of guard Ronald Blackshear. Blackshear came within one of tieing the all-time record for three-point baskets in a game, by making 14 treys -- and set the NCAA mark with 11 consecutive made three-point field goals, as the Herd came from behind to beat the Zips something like 102-87 (?). We did have a strong finish to the first-half and led by -- guessing here -- 56-52 at halftime. That was the final regular season game, and the team went to WMU and won a MAC tournament play-in game, before being beaten at the Q by BGSU. Memories...
  3. Skip, the University of Hawaii has had a system for several years -- on their internal ticket website -- that allows people to sell game tickets they do not intend to use. The system was adapted from what many other universities were doing. It's probably been in use for 10 years now, though I've never used it myself. There must be a way for the U of A to incorporate something like this, if they just try. Are they willing and interested, is the question.
  4. Missing a local player is one thing. Letting him go to our rival is another! Hurry and build that wall with Canada! http://verbalcommits.com/players/jayvon-graves
  5. Kid averaged 8.7 ppg as a freshman at Moanalua HS, 1/4 mile from my house. If I'd known, I'd have jumped on the recruiting bandwagon. But, he probably wouldn't have been KD's kind of player, as shown in the non-recruiting of Evan Payne. Still can't get over that one
  6. Okay, I forgot his homegrown "rights". Another way to control players' freedom, even before they join the league!
  7. Marshall McLuhan, father of media literacy. "The media is the massage" http://marshallmcluhan.com/
  8. Cicerone only other MAC player. Does this signify that Adam is headed overseas? I hope he has a realistic direction and guidance.
  9. I was really hoping someone else would step up and not force me to be the one who responds to this. I don't know the age ofK92, but these crude remarks are generally representative of an adolescent mentality. Those of us who have been on this board since it's infancy have worked to maintain some semblance of decency and decorum. A basic rule might be that people don't use language they wouldn't use to their mother. The 'c' word falls way outside what should be expected in discussion that represents the Zipsnation and the University of Akron. I'll leave it there. GoZips!
  10. This game almost made me miss the entire MLS Cup! Come on Sounders! YES!!!! Zakuani's team wins!!!
  11. Yes -- not scoring the final 7:37 may have made a difference. That's similar to our last meeting in Portland.
  12. Gee, hope you didn't lose too much money on this one! I'm sure we'll cover nex'time.
  13. We've rebounded them 25-20. 10-6 offensively. That's keeping it close.
  14. Two of the very best perimeter defenses in the NCAA. ESPN shows 27% to 25% shooting in Gonzaga's favor -- if you will.
  15. Wow! Down just 6 at the break, while having an AWFUL shooting half! We might just keep this close in the 2nd half. The broadcast did eventually come through. Nice job by Root so far. And plenty appreciation of our team.
  16. I have audio, but no picture.
  17. Please send the link! I lost it. And my beer joint is closed! Aaarrrggghh.
  18. Whatever the name of the Philadelphia Union stadium is, that's where the game will be played. Chester is on the SE side of Philly. Major redevelopment project to locate the stadium there.
  19. GoZags, let me ask you the Q's people here might not have thought of: 1. How do folks in Zagland generally feel about the relative strength of this year's team to the past? I personally feel the team's balance and depth is as strong as any you have put on the floor. Is there a feeling that "This is the Year" -- that you finally break through and make the trip to Phoenix (that's where former Akron administrator Dawn Rogers is directing the NCAA Final Four in April, Zips fans)? 2. How often do you see UW or Wazzou gear in the stands at your games, and how are those wearers treated? We need assistance in weeding Suckeye gear from our venues.
  20. You're welcome.
  21. I find it incredible that the women's tournament draws over 10,000 (at San Jose' last week -- may have been well more than that), but the men can't draw flies -- for the second year in a row -- at a MLS stadium. Can anyone explain that?
  22. Similar to Zippy's here on O'ahu. But no Portagee bean soup, I bet. Try da Zip Pac wit' spam an' hash patty.
  23. Yes--Roots used to be Fox regional networks that were bought out by, first (I think) Dish Network, and then AT&T. ROOTS is an affiliate of AT&T. So now they have regional sports nets in ORE/WA, Utah and that Pittsburgh/W. PA/W Va. area net.
  24. Are people forgetting something? A player can test the water with pro scouts, but so long as they don't hire an agent and aren't drafted, they can return to their college team. I'm hoping Jerome learns in this process that he'll be much more marketable to NFL teams if he has a great senior year.
  25. VERY interesting comment about Lou Orr Jr. I can't recall seeing him play, but his son Chauncey (I bet some of you remember him playing for his dad at BGSU) has been in the islands playing D2 ball for a couple years and shows flashes of greatness, scoring mid-double figs for Hawaii Pacific U. He's the best son of an NBA player on the team since Jerry Lucas' son played there in the 90s.
