  1. Here's hoping the upgrade is effortable.
  2. He WAS -- if you just rearrange the letters in his last name from P-O-W-E-R-S to S-E-R-N-A. Well, Amazing! I didn't even at lunch today!
  3. Shout out to Bisbee and Tank!!! When do we get the official Travel to Rio Blog??? Wish I could go! Now gotta order my jersey. DeAndre: #2 Nice! http://www.soundersfc.com/post/2014/05/22/dempsey-yedlin-named-final-usmnt-23-man-roster-world-cup-brazil Also: A nice SI article about the $$ of World Cup team membership. http://soccer.si.com/2014/05/20/world-cup-usa-usmnt-player-bonuses-money-ussf/ Seems like DeAndre and his agent are due a BIG raise after the cup -- How long does his HG contract last?
  4. Dave is 100% correct here -- Kwan's game is the same in practice as it is during competition -- he has to become another player to fit into the 4 or 5 spot -- regardless of his body! But -- and don't downplay this -- he can be extremely valuable on the wing. His size allows him to do things from that position that defenders have a devil of a time guarding.
  5. This promises to be a very interesting season upcoming for the women. I expect much improvement.
  6. Hard to believe their AD took THAT long to can him -- after the season ended! Did they have to get WH approval, or something?? BTW -- didn't mention since I was busy at the time, but I had an opportunity to talk for about 30 secs with the Nation's First Grandma after OSU's game vs GMU and before Akron's with ISU. She was absolutely incredulous that her son's team had lost! She didn't know who "Akron" was, and it was the first time she had ever seen his team lose a game. He should now get a decent high major assistant coaching spot...
  7. Of all the Akron men's head coaches I've met, Huggins was the most successful, and the least likeable. Of course that depends on your measure of "success".
  8. Well, Rivals.com IS the Bible of recruiting sites, so I shall not blaspheme their most recent eval. However, I remember looking at that or another site prior to Brown's Butler decision (somewhere around the start of the 2012-13 season), and the list included only MAC and Big West schools, plus the likes of Cleveland State... I DO remember seeing both Can't St AND Ohio listed then, and now...no Bobkittens, but..a St. Mary's??... Jus' sayin'.
  9. Thank you for that, Cap'n. At the risk of offending the hard helmeted, I can't help wondering how those 14 could be more of a drain than the 75 scholarships for another money-losing sport. I'm not (on this occasion) suggesting dropping any sports, but just wondering how one sport can have such redundancy compared to any other -- and no, I'm not referring to the men's futbol team, they only get 9.5 grants-in-aid.
  10. Alright, give me a spare but I am actually going to chime in on this crazy train conversation. Can anyone tell me why -- unless my inattentiveness made me miss it -- there has been no outcry from such corners as, um, the FACULTY? Have they been so dumbed down that they've given up on caring?
  11. I was quite surprised to hear of Drew playing LB. Is that his first time outside the center back spot, and why would he be out there -- does someone on the bench think there's a better option than him (now THAT's scary!).
  12. Pretty amazing -- Butler was the only school above MAC-level to offer Brown, but I have to think Butler's coaching staff told him he didn't have much of a future there. I recall Can't and Ohio were on the MB recruiting list, and probably offered him along with the likes of Cal State Northridge and Fullerton State. From what I know, KD never came close to offering him.
  13. Very sad to hear about the passing of Joe Curl -- who I knew from his days at Stephen F. Austin prior to joining the Cougars for a long and successful run. As I recall, one of Coach Kest's first major wins was vs Houston in a game @ Akron. Was hoping when I read the heading that she would take the Gonzaga job, which is being eyed by Hawaii coach Laura Beaman. In any case. best wishes and mahalos to coach Kest. You never know, maybe she'll stay...
  14. Dave (and Noah) lol I DO know the way to San Jose -- been there multiple times, AND "glamorous" is not a word I would use to describe it.
  15. Anybody in for a road trip to Albuquerque? Too bad it's only a single game, instead of a tournament like our last visit, though. Game day is Friday night before Labor Day -- I will probably go if I can combine with West Coast games for my Rainbow Wahine, or maybe trip to Portland.
  16. The BC AD is the former Miami AD Brad Bates, hired in 2012. He may just be expressing favoritism to his old conference. Who knows? Background: http://espn.go.com/boston/ncf/story/_/id/8482990/boston-college-eagles-hire-brad-bates-new-athletic-director
  17. Depends -- did he take the final scholly, or is he a walk-on? I don't believe partial scholarships are permitted in MBB (as they are e.g., in soccer), are they?
  18. The women's team has announced its 2014 Fall schedule: http://gozips.com/sports/wsoc/2013-14/releases/201404071c9owx I just wondered, since the title of this thread is what it is...does Akron women's soccer have spring games? If not, that may be a tip off of how Title IX is not working out. I do know that here in Hawaii, our women's soccer team hosted a 7v7 tournament, but no full games. We've had mainland teams play here in most years, even USC in a game attended by 4000+ last year (there was a youth tournament going on at the facility surrounding the stadium). But, I think most all D-1 men's soccer teams play a spring schedule, no?
  19. Damn! I can't wait to get my new USA YEDLIN jersey!!! Go Yanquis!
  20. Ahem... "Malvern Prep's 6-5, 270-pound junior lineman committed to the University of Miami on Saturday Read more at http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/high_school/20140401_Malvern_s_Mahoney_commits_to_Miami.html#w03sfuWLEty6CMzW.99 Cap'n, whodathunk there would be two "Miami'"s!!!
  21. You know what's really interesting? Abu Danladi - Forward - Takoradi, Ghana - Dunn High School - Played with the Santa Barbara Soccer Club. Ranked by College Soccer News as the number 22 player in the class of 2014. All-CIP in 2012 and 2013 UCLA is now stealing players from under the nose of UC Santa Barbara. Dunn School in Los Olivos used to be effectively the UCSB Academy -- for Ghanaian refugees.
  22. Damn, I love this thread. Thank you Gozips for starting it!!! -- Isn't it about time we discussed Akron moving to the BIG TIME!?!? Although, just to give my personal opinion, I feel great sympathy for Balsy, who wrote: "UA made a commitment first to football, so we're unfortunately stuck with it." Sorry LZip, but I would like to employ the Idaho Vandals as a role model. The former PAC-8 member leaves the WAC in 2014 for the Big Sky Conference. Who says Akron can't move up to the MVC?
  23. LOL! MD, the only thing I put a lot of stock into is my chicken soup!
  24. Where did they get that logo? I like it! Now can we put it on a T-shirt, Jared? Please.
