2014 Zips in Pro Leagues Domestic and International
Z.I.P. replied to yazan07's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Ummmm, pardon me Mr Comic Sans MS, but making the world cup team is what the article was talking about. That's what the author, Mr Clark meant when he wrote "Here are five players with three caps or fewer who might just possibly be able to snag a spot in Brazil." Were you lost in a Bufalobo snow storm or something? On another track, I hear there is a chance the fall schedule could be out in April, as it is final. But then again, I'm not planning to hold my breath... -

Top Drawer soccer has a list of five longshots who could make the US team in Brasil, and someone named, "DeAndre" is at the top of the list. I didn't notice anyone named "Brek" BTW! And can anyone comment on the tat? Never saw that before... http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/the91stminute/2014/03/five-usmnt-long-shots-for-brazil/?utm_source=All&utm_campaign=General_03_21_14&utm_medium=email -
@DiG, I hate to ruin your trip down nostalgia lane, with your report on the War Memorial Coliseum, but the Akron press release in Zn.o archives says this about the game time and venue:: Wednesday, March 19, 2014 • 7:00 p.m. ET Hillard Gates Sports Center (2,300) Fort Wayne, Ind. Yes -- capacity 2,300! Gee, If the Mastodons are so motivated to win in their first try at post-season basketball, their fans are going to be pretty upset that that 13,000 seat arena won't be filled. Maybe they're just trying to quiet the thousands of Akron fans they were afraid would make the trip? One other detail: Rumor has it George Mikan has returned his tickets.

Sorry I Can't make it to Indiana. BUT, I can tell you about upsets! - I was in Maples Pavilion back in 1998 when #16 seed Harvard (the Stanford of the East) knocked off #1 seed Stanford (the Harvard of the West), the only first round victory for a 16 seed. Stanford had two all-Americans injured after their final game, including the legendary Lindsay Yamasaki. Akron has the team chemistry to beat Purdue -- they must come out with supreme confidence and get open shots -- but they have to exert as much energy defending the Boilers' post game. Purdue will go in assuming they can simply beat up on Akron in the paint. We have to use our athleticism, without getting in foul trouble, then knock down open J's. Go Zips!

It costs $30,000 to buy a home game in the CIT. If Gozips wants to know the source, the quote comes from the Tournament Director, former Hawaii coach Riley Wallace. Akron apparently didn't have the $ to play at home. On the other hand, Hawaii turned down their former coach for even a road game, based on travel expense. BTW, did I say how much I'm looking forward to seeing 15-15 Pacific @15-14 Grand Canyon? Will this one be nationally televised, or will it be on the internet, symbolic of the home team, playing in their first post-season, in the school's first year in Div 1? edit: Forgot to say, Go Zips, Spear those Mastodons! Our one NCAA team title beats their four NCAA men's volleyball final fours.
-
IPFW has played in four final fours, and hosted one -- in men's volleyball.
-
I can assure you that Sigi Schmid, Deandre Yedlin and all Sounders Nation are wondering where the freight train they played Saturday came from. No more easy wins vs TFC!
-
I can understand that the refs missed that call where (was it?) Tree hit the underside of the backboard trying for the block -- it happened a second or two before the ball went through, and it's so rare that the refs can miss something like that rather easily. HOWEVER -- to play devil's advocate: The goaltending called on Can't State in the first half of last Friday's game was one of the worst missed calls I've seen all season -- as the announcers said, the ball not only wasn't in the cylinder, but HALF of the ball was below the rim when it was rebounded! But, hey -- that's what we call "ancient history", eh Zippers?
-
WOW!!! Just saw this...So IOW, we have a chance the second time around this season vs the Chipps on Friday. Sorry that I will miss this game. Unlike Akron men's basketball, ESPN does not appear to have a contract to broadcast most Akron women's basketball games! I think the win over OU this afternoon (HST) was our 16th national TV game this year on the Family.
-
I just want to thank You Know Who for not calling him "BENTACOURT" (yet)! And, before taking a detour to Bobkittienation.com, I just want to tell Zipsnation how excited I am, that I will have the pleasure of RE-USING my Giant Zips Heads when the Kittens take the floor for next year's Diamond Head Classic!!! If Coach Christian's charges hadn't blown another Akron game, I probably couldn't have gotten away with that.
-
Will someone please steal that flag for Z.I.P.? He would really like to have that. Alternatively, does someone sell such an item?
-
You should have seen the LA Galaxy -- Real Salt Lake game last night. At least MLS has the excuse that the regular refs are on strike!

Akron vs Ken+, (hopefully) home season finale.
Z.I.P. replied to RowdyZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Quite simply-dimply: Deji will make the difference -- especially if Quincy continues his inconsistency. And I would sure have liked to see Kwan get a few minutes vs Buffalo. I think we can use what he brings (especially without Jake) - but he will always be a Euro-style wing, not a '4'. -

Sorry, but I mistakenly posted this on LAST YEAR'S pro-Zips thread. Only Eric Stevenson remains in MLS of Akron draftees. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-articles/status-of-2014-mls-draftees_aid32632 -

No mention of Akron draftees on the board recently -- According to TDW, only Eric Stevenson is still on an MLS roster!? Wow.http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-articles/status-of-2014-mls-draftees_aid32632 -
Spring schedule, OK ---- Now can anyone give us any hints on the FALL Schedule?

"I hope everyone had an awesome holiday season and a Happy New Year!" That's all very interesting, since as we all know, Thai New Year and the Water Festival is in April! -
Well, BeeGee certainly put together a great game the other night in beating a CMU team that looked like it wouldn't lose again until NCAA time. Kudos to the Falcon women who "held" Crystal Bradford to 14 points 14 rebounds in leveling themselves and the Chipps at the top of the MAC standings with one loss each. And congratulations to Falcon Jill Stein. Did anyone else vote for her for President??
-
Why YES, Mr Go Zips, we do! That game generated more publicity than just about any other nationally televised game. Thanks BTW for mentioning the eleven. I think the OU game makes 12.
-
Health investment by the school? Does the UA have a printing press for $$$ now?? Where's it coming from?
-
No Akron fan should be satisfied with this performance. We are barely playing well enough to beat bad and physically depreciated teams like BeeGee. HOWEVER -- at least the game was nationally televised on ESPN Full Court ONCE AGAIN (!) though I didn't know till this morning. This is the team's 11th national broadcast on ESPN this season!
-
Mahalo lobo! I fixed it! Forgot about Teal. Wonder if a Nanchoff ever played for USA?
-
Didn't anyone else watch the Korea match (like anyone at Gozips.com??)? DeAndre became -- as far as I know -- the first Akron player to cap with the USMNT. He looked good for the few minutes I saw him, roaming the left -- no make that the right -- side just like he does for the Sounders. Held his own.
-
Akron plays Eastern Michigan at home tomorrow night, and something inside the UA athletic department is starting to rupture my okole. This is, I believe the third game this year (2014) to be nationally broadcast on the ESPN Full Court (the Portage State, Toledo and @EMU games were on in Jan.) -- but the athletic department has not once provided this info to the public in their press releases on upcoming games -- they only list "ESPN3". This is on TELEVISION, folks, you don't have to look at the crummy computer screen! However, you DO have to put up with Michael Reghi one more time! : / BTW -- whatever happened to our list?? It sucks lately! Maybe someone can tell us ol futs how to use the new system. No emoticons except smiley? No way to add a link like before... Is that why traffic is way down?
