  6. Can the marketing department make Akron football events something people want to experience again? The biggest challenge UA faces is getting people to believe the product on the field is legit. Rob Ianello's product was the most frustration thing to watch in my life. I can't tell you how many times his decisions baffled my mind. His on and and off game decisions made me want to not support Akron football as a sign of protest. Going to Akron football events does not seem to be socially "cool." This needs to change. UA's marketing department needs to place an emphasis on the experience of going to the games. When I was a student, I was part of a group (not rowdies) that would have huge tailgating parties and go to the games to have fun, regardless of the result. We would throw someone up to crowd surf randomly, and have them go up and down for each point scored. The change that came with moving to Infocision was a huge buzz kill for my tailgating group. We went from being charged $3 to $10 for parking in a tailgating lot. The tailgating experience at the Info is spread out to different parking lots, vs being condensed into one area at the Rubber Bowl. The policies that UA used for parking at the Info separated the hardcore and casual fans. Regardless of your opinions on this, the change damaged the experience you would get from tailgating for Akron football games. Another factor you have to consider is competing entertainment events going on during the same day. This is just my opinion based on personal observations, but people only have a limited amount of time per day that they can apply towards sporting events, and that time is applied towards watching non-local sporting events on TV. This is just an opinion, but I believe more people get together to watch OSU football games on TV on Saturdays in Summit County than go to UA Football games. My facebook account is polluted with scarlet and gray every Saturday, and those polluting it live in Summit County. I've seen pictures of over a dozen people traveling down to Columbus just to tailgate and not actually go into the game. Rooting for OSU is the social "cool" thing to do this year, especially with them winning again. The Urban Meyers hire hurts us more than it did for Michigan. Tailgate Parties Are a ‘Powerful Impulse’ and a Microcosm of Society Tailgating is a very important part of the event and experience.
  7. I'll update throughout the season: First report: Soccer Thrives Under Akron’s Friday Night Lights Second report: Worst Attendance Ever for the Akron Tournament at Cub Cadet Field / First Energy Stadium
  8. to be fair, the 2012 attendance is down compared to the past 2 years and worth noting. Here's my quick report on it: http://akronsportsnow.com/worst-attendance...energy-stadium/ The Zips looked great on Sunday, let's hope the goals keep coming.
  9. we have only exceeded 3,000 once on a Sunday and it was during the NCAA Tournament in 2010
  10. Bowling Green soccer games have exceeded the 2,000 attendance number twice over the past 2 years. It's possible they'll have over 2,000 on Saturday against Akron. We should make plans to travel to BG to support our team. The game starts at 7pm. Attendance for Bowling Green this year: St. Bonaventure - 2076 Michigan State - 912 Marshall - 645 Total 3633 Average 1211 Attendance for Bowling Green in 2011: Michigan 2133 IPFW 435 Cleveland State 531 IUPUI 103 FAU 266 Hartwick 771 NIU 276 Total 4515 Average 645
  11. Attendance for Sunday games are traditionally low. Sunday night is a recovery and school night for most. Attendance average for the year is 3,345. Next home game is on Saturday, September 29, against Buffalo. Bison burgers for the tailgate!!! http://akronsportsnow.com/soccer-thrives-u...y-night-lights/
  12. Akron games need an experience that people want to be a part of. The winning is only part of the formula. If they forced everyone in the top sections to sit below, and tarped off the top, Akron fans could create a better atmosphere. Take San Jose Earthquake games for example, only 10,000 fit in that little stadium but the atmosphere is incredible. Another example is the Seattle Sounders, they average 36,000 in a 66,000 stadium but the games look packed because the upper sections are tarped off. Akron football is not at the level where the upper sections are necessary. Create an atmosphere that people enjoy being a part of. They'll share the experience on social media to help get others interested.
  13. I'll be there around 4 at the same place (behind scoreboard for the football stadium). Hope to see everyone there tonight.

I'm not sure if some of the 6 are ready yet. I would hate to see these players transfer to another college. We still have a very good team with the remaining players.
  15. if fans can create a unique atmosphere for games, it becomes contagious and something people want to experience regardless of W's or L's. A sporting event is a type of entertainment. The trick is to not make the entertainment come from the result on the field, but from the experience from going to the game. The W's helps market the product, but the experience keeps them coming back.
  16. Using a goalie is overrated
  17. The Zips beat Canisius 1-0, are now 4-2-0. Not a bad start.
  18. The sound quality for the stream is poor for me, but I have the game plugged into the surround sound and loud. It sounds like a lot of Akron fans made the trip
  19. Caldwell scored the first goal, came within the 4th minute. Notre Dame came close to equalizing with a shot off the post.

  21. This might help you get out of Never Land http://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads.../#post-26404201 Dayton, a smaller city than Akron, had 2,763 show up for a women's soccer game this year http://daytonflyers.com.ismmedia.com/ISM3/...res/udgame3.htm
