  1. Wrong. Just 1000% wrong. Akron's defense is one of the best in the MAC. Why? Transfer Portal. Our secondary is entirely P5 and leaps & bounds better than previous years, especially last year. Our LB corps has 2 anchors, one of which came from JUCO. We're talking about a sport where physical contact is the name of the game. Most 18/19 year old kids are physically under-developed compared to 20-22 year olds. Most P5 programs have a better strength & conditioning program (largely due to funding) than Akron. So players are coming in from the TP more developed physically. Especially on defense, the Transfer Portal will always be a huge key to success. Offensively, we have some absolute studs. George (PSU), Adams (LSU), Lingard (Florida), Anderson (Arizona/Northwestern), Banks (WVU), Newell (Arizona State), etc. These guys are being overshadowed by pee poor QB play & play calling. That doesn't mean the transfer portal hasn't been successful. Northeast Ohio has talent. The top talent goes P5. When you're an Akron, you can't fence yourself into a particular area. Northeast Ohio's secondary talent might not be as great as Western PA, Eastern Tennessee, Southern South Dakota. Go get the best talent available regardless of area. The key for sustained success is winning. I don't give a damn where the kids come from, just f'ing win.
  2. This. Our QB struggles aren't due to a lack of NIL. Our QB struggles are due to coaching, whether it be in the recruiting department, development, or system/play calling. Next year there needs to be a competent QB under center with complimentary, competent play calling that moves this offense. As you said, Captain, big off-season for Joe in the QB department.
  3. There he... Nope. No Ali Ali. 🤔 Maybe just the guys who haven't bailed on the program before?
  4. I figured there was something they saw in practice that gave them confidence with Bullock in the game. I attributed the first game struggles more to play calling. While I still attribute a lot of our offensive struggles to playing, the CMU game proved that Bullock doesn't have it between the ears, let alone the skill. The coaching staff's ability to call plays AND evaluate/develop talent is 100% in question. Zips fans are left wondering how an offense under the coaching hand of an "offensive genius" is so inept. Even when Undercuffler came in and led them down the field for a TD, it was the Stefanski effect where there was probably a scripted play call sheet that caught the defense off guard, and once the defense adjusted, it was back to the garbage offense.
  5. I was clambering for Bullock because Undercuffler was Underwhelming every time I saw him and I figured it'd be worth it to see what we'll have on the roster going forward. What were the coaches seeing that would even think Bullock was on the same planet as Undercuffler?
  6. What are the transfer rules for a player transferring from FBS to a lower division?
  7. Our players are talking entirely too much. Does JoeMo not tell them they suck?
  8. Jankowski, Jennings, Wasel - in that order. Let's see em. That ball was tipped, which led to the INT. However, it was going to be incomplete at the very least; triple coverage and the safety was bearing down being the receiver.
  9. Lol. Of course they hit a 58 yarder.
  10. The offense hasn't moved - especially not consistently - under 3 different QBs; that's on the coaches more than anything. The QBs themselves are not great, but the majority of the blame needs to be put on the coaches.
  11. To not have a QB in year 2 is an utter failure by JoeMo.
  12. Joe apparently didn't use his FCS connections to figure out how New Hampshire put up 42 on this CMU squad.
  13. Not only that, it was a play design that got the QB out of the pocket. Genius. Only a rocket scientist could've designed something so intelligent.
  14. Jankowski time. That's the dumbest thing I think I've ever seen a QB do.
  15. TURNOVER TIRE X2!
  16. The decision to pull him for the dude that missed the kick against Indiana (I forget his name; I'm going to attribute that to wanting to forget that miss) was asinine.
  17. THERE WE GO Z FENSE! TURNOVER TIRE!
  18. Silver lining during this garbage start to the season: we have some impressive defensive players.
  19. Outstanding pocket presence by Bullock. Pretty sure his internet disconnected for a second. His feet quit moving.
  20. I have 2 bets left in play after WVU and Colorado gacked miserably. Both include Akron over 1.5 Touchdowns. Do they have it in them? If so, I think they win. If not, well... I don't even want to think about that considering New Hampshire put up 42 on this CMU squad.
  21. I misread your post as "a reflection of the expectations", and missed the "not a reflection", meaning you think it's light compared to where the program itself wants to be. My apologies. Your points are valid. I hope we go out and dominate the games we do have. It's a solid schedule. Will be even better when we find out who the second Sun Belt squad is.
  22. Allegedly they had a P5 on the schedule and something happened with the tournament, so they had to pivot. It takes 2 to tango, and I'm not real sure too many P5s were looking for a last second add to their schedule to risk a potential upset. My point is I don't think it's right to use the schedule as the barometer for the program's expectations. My biggest gripe are the two non D1 matchups, but ce la vie. The rest will be fun.
  23. I don't think the schedule is a negative reflection of the program's expectations at all. In fact, the schedule says - at least to me - that Groce & co. expect Akron to be a top end mid major. It's a very competitive schedule, even with the fallout from the Mexico tourney we were supposed to be in. PCCC played a difficult schedule last year. That prepared them so well, they were blown out by Indiana in the first round of the tourney. The difference between Akron & PCCC last year was roster experience/talent, not schedule difficulty difference. The MAC is a one-bid league unless one of the teams has 2-3 losses max and loses late in the MAC tourney. Schedule hardly matters.
  24. I might have to block you. Too much negative news from you recently. 😂
