I don't know how you came to this conclusion, but I took this the exact opposite. I understood this tweet as Guthrie saying he had no control over the schedule, but if he did, Akron would not have played 2 Top 25 teams.

Excellent post as usual. I love our open field tackling. It seems like we're missing far less tackles in space, which is setting up more and longer 2nd & 3rd downs for the opponents. DJ is a stud. As annoying as the commentators were, they were right about him being P5 material - if he keeps up this level of play & poise. Our offense is going to be an issue for the MAC. Two straight weeks we've been able to move the ball, at least for solid stretches, against Top 25 P5 opponents. Scoring has come at a premium due to having to be perfect to overcome the talent difference, but I have zero concerns vs the MAC. We should also be able to run the ball better, which will open up the passing game. Lastly, part of my confidence in our success in the MAC this year stems from the level of our coaching. We've gone against two coaching staffs that have a combined payroll that equals or surpasses the MAC's entire media revenue for the year. We will be able to outcoach most of our MAC opponents, and it will come down to execution. Bring on Liberty.

Game #3 - @ Tennessee Volunteers
Let'sGoZips94 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
You mean a size mismatch across the board resulted in the smaller team having to tackle the legs of the bigger opponents? That was their first sellout for a non-P5 home game since 2015 or something like that. It's impressive so many wanted to come see Akron. -

This. This is DJ's team. This team is going to be fun to watch against non-Top 25 competition. Announcers are awful and unprofessional, as many have said, with the Irons Transfer Portal crap. The SEC arrogance in their comments is nauseating. The kinks are being worked out each week, and we keep getting better. -
ESPN Bottom 10... 9. The Akronmonious Buffaloed Baller Central State of Kent While the #FunBelt was in full-on party mode, poor #MACtion spent its entire Saturday already looking like the morning after. The conference went 2-8 in nonconference games. Five teams are 0-2, punctuated by the Buffalo Bulls Not Bills and the 46-yard, as-time-expired game-losing TD toss it allowed to the Holy Cross Crusaders, a team that obviously practices a lot of Hail Mary's but apparently says a lot of Hail Mary's too. 10. Boiling Green (0-2) The Brown Falcons lost in seven overtimes to Eastern Kentucky, the team picked to finish third in the ASUN Conference of the FCS. Bowling Green erased a 14-point deficit with a 21-0 run, but EKU scored on the final play of regulation to force overtime, then stopped BGSU and responded with a score to win in the seventh OT. So, if you were wondering why we left Bowling Green off the previous list of heartbroken MAC teams, now you know that was no accident. It didn't merely have its heart broken, it opened up its own wing of the cardiac ward.

Insane statistic, and further proof that this staff gets it. We are in good hands. -
Game 3: Akron ZIPS @ Tennessee - Score Prediction (POLL)

MSU would've been on upset alert until the middle of the 3Q in my opinion. We would've found the endzone eventually, and the Irons injury sapped all the energy from the team. With Irons only a Junior and the kid from Oklahoma coming in, I would love to see what Jennings can offer. Not sure Tennessee is the game to do it in, but ce la vie. -

Irons. -
Was that the same field goal that most likely should have never been due to the no-call on the obvious facemask?

Class of '23 Offers & Verbal Commits

Great gesture by the staff and I'm glad someone still appreciates hand-written notes nowadays, unlike Brian Kelly. -
This will be very interesting to see what Campbell does. Prior to Campbell, Iowa State was somewhat like the Nebraska of the Big 12. The Big Ten would be a step up in competition, especially given the Big 12's ever changing landscape over the next few years. It would be similar to going from Toledo to ISU (bigger jump than ISU to Nebraska, but you get the picture). His style fits the Big Ten (big, physical WRs and a solid run game), too. I also saw PJ Fleck as a candidate for the job. Fleck needs to keep his boat docked in Minnesota, in my opinion.

Joe Mo almost letting it slip (again) that most of our roster wasn't even FBS level prior to his arrival. Also, the media is in class every time they talk to Joe Mo. He is a football professor. -
Responding to the bold in order... - You're right. It doesn't have a lot to do with it. It also doesn't hurt. My MNF reference was in response to your statement that the MAC should drop one of the most athletically successful programs in the MAC as "progress". Forgive me for viewing attendance at Akron/Buffalo games (mostly basketball with the state of our football program in recent years) vs. Akron/Directional Michigan games as an indicator that getting rid of Buffalo from the MAC would be stupid. - Why not play 2 per year? That's double the chance of having a P5 win that season. - Money is a reason to play 2 P5 schools. We need it. Now, do we need to play 2 upper echelon P5s? Nope, nor am I advocating for that. Give me Northwestern, Nebraska, Rutgers, Virginia, Wake Forest, etc. I'll take 2 of those, and 2 G5s, like I said in my original post. - I watched the game well into the 4th quarter before switching my focus to the Guardians and other college football games. I'm an Akron fan. Win or lose, no matter how bad, I like watching the Zips. - Marshall is in the Sun Belt. This was your statement in an earlier post... "They have grown with the addition of schools....in the sun belt. Get it?" I was directly responding to your geographical argument. Marshall, ODU, and JMU are not in the Sun Belt region, yet the Sun Belt Conference added them. Why? And if your response is "well, they're close enough," then wouldn't WKU and MTSU be close enough for the MAC, while also increasing the level of competition? I really don't understand your argument at all, as you advocated for the MAC to drop Buffalo, yet applauded the Sun Belt for growing. By the way, the Sun Belt Conference will have a bigger media deal than the MAC this next time around because they've added schools that has raised the athletic level of the conference.

I don't care if Joe Carolina draws the connection between Akron - MAC - Khalil Mack - Buffalo. I care that, on primetime NFL games when they do the lineup announcements, there's a "Khalil Mack, University at Buffalo" so when Joe Akron sees Buffalo on the schedule it means a little bit more. Grow from there. Of course it's not the norm. However, East Carolina built their reputation of being Giant Killers by playing P5s regularly. Boise State did the same thing. App State now has 2 of the biggest upsets in college football history, one of which is talked about all the freaking time. In fact, the Sun Belt has 4 wins from what I'm seeing over P5s in the past 2 weeks. How many do they have if they don't play those games? Marshall is in the Sun Belt region? The team that just beat Notre Dame? Old Dominion is in the Sun Belt region? The team that just beat Va Tech? James Madison, where GameDay was just a few years ago? Spoiler alert: they're not in the Sun Belt region yet they were added because of what they provide in athletic competition.
